26:12 New Year's Eve was incredible. Bananas. The Lord blessed us. And I pray that you were blessed by the word. What was the title of the message? What was the title of the message? It almost killed me. And by the end of that message, we learned, didn't we, that the Lord will provide. And so that's not my sermon today, but I want you to hold on to that truth. And I asked in the message that we would make a covenant that no matter what happens this year, you remind everybody in your presence. when they started you know sometimes life will make you you know just too much calm yourself down calm everybody around you down look them in the face and say the Lord will provide listen and there are going to be some moments this year I need you to tell me when you see me Pastor The Lord Will provide And so hold on to that this year as we walk It's the year of joy And I want you to come with me to the book of 1 Peter Chapter 1 Chapter 1 1 Peter chapter 1 Verses 6 through 9 Man this is 115 Y'all look like Y'all looking like 1045 yeah and you know I'd be trying to tell people this 115 service got the Holy Ghost we opened the doors last week before the sermon and about 11 people came to Christ I'm telling you I think that's something to praise God about don't you? 31:32 because I'm on a spiritual assignment to crush every attack of the enemy that has tried to fill your life with misery and pain and hopelessness and tiredness and fatigue, anxiety and depression and worry and despondency. I am on spiritual assignment for the year 2025 to help you have a life where you understand just how much joy can change your life. Well, I want to read this to you. I was on Instagram. You know, sometimes you can find inspirational things on Instagram. Sometimes you find nothing on Instagram. But luckily yesterday I found something that was worth reading. And this is what it says.

32:25 Let me share it with you. Isn't this what you asked for? You asked for discipline and life gave you distractions. You asked for strength and life gave you hardship. You asked for patience and life gave you delays. You asked for wisdom and life gave you tough choices. You asked for peace and life gave you chaos. Mastering chaos builds peace. the obstacle is the way Ryan Holiday has a book called The Obstacle is the Way that blessed me yesterday because of the phone call I received right before reading that on Instagram I was working on my sermon on joy reading as much as I could on joy studying what it means in the Greek reading what scholars have said about joy so that when I get to the pulpit I can tell you about joy Well, in the middle of me studying about joy and trying to fill myself with some joy, in spite of all the things that have already happened in 2025, I got a phone call from Pastor Pope. Hey, Pastor, I knew something was up then because when he calls me as his brother, it's Reggie or Hey, Bro.

34:13 But when he said, Hey, Pastor, I knew then something's going on with the church. I said, Hey, what's up? Hey, man, you got a second? I might. what's going on well i got damien pastor vassar and i have dig and greg on the line and we want to pull you into a conversation i said hey you're just gonna throw me in the deep end to a conversation i know nothing about he said well there's an issue with the internet and the router and we want to pull you in so you're not blindsided at church tomorrow i said what's going on we're probably not going to be able to stream on the first sunday of the year and we know that you know, that's going to be an issue for a lot of people and you. And so we want you to get on on the calls. We can tell you about what's going on. I said, no, sir. No, thank you. He said, you're refusing to get on the call? I said, yes, sir. I'm refusing to get on the call. I said, because what I want is for the internet to work tomorrow and we'll be able to stream.

35:08 He said, well, that's probably not going to happen. I said, well, all right. Have a good day. Hung the phone up. My wife heard a little bit of it. She said, everything alright? I said, yeah, everything's fine. That was Pastor Pope telling me that the internet's not working and the router's not working at the church. It's the year of joy. And the first Sunday of the year of joy, internet's not working, router needs to be replaced, and we can't stream on the first Sunday of the year of joy. She said, you alright? I said, yeah, I'm fine. I went in the living room, sat on the couch, got my phone, and I felt my face tight. Have you ever realized tension was in your body? So I felt my face was tight and something the Holy Ghost said, relax your face. And I literally felt my face relax. I felt my body relax. And y'all, I went to sleep for over an hour.

36:00 Woke up, grabbed my phone and the first thing I see is that message on Instagram. Because what if you've asked God for joy and the first thing he sends is an inconvenience because joy is not discovered apart from inconveniences and misery it is discovered in the middle of it real joy doesn't need a good day to be exposed real joy shows up on a bad day real joy is not revealed on mountain peaks real joy is revealed in the valley real joy is not revealed when you healthy and you and your boo chilling and y'all singing best part to each other and and and real joy is when y'all ain't talking and if you are talking you ain't talking about much because there's some tension right there and you still got to smile and show up and hold hands anyway when low key y'all got something to work out because what if when you ask for joy god sends the thing that helps you develop it it's what you ask for and so god had to quickly check me and say hey uh uh don't think just because you call this the year joy and because i've declared this for the church this is the year joy that you will not get hit with some pain so before you become disillusioned and fill your life with toxic positivity talking about I'm too blessed to be stressed. I'm too anointed to be disappointed.

37:42 I'm too equipped to be whipped. You're going to be equipped and whipped. You're going to be anointed and you will be disappointed and with your blessed self you're going to be stressed out sometimes and God in the middle of all of that is still going to give you some joy. That's what I need you to know before we go another further into 2025 don't side at me till my pastor said it's the year of joy and it's been one of the hardest years of my life but I promise you if it is the hardest year of your life you are about to learn about the joy of God in a way that you have never learned before before I go any further can I holler somebody that knows I have discovered what real joy is not when life was sweet but when things got rocky and i smiled i got dressed i laid my edges i got my hair cut i put my good shoes on i put my girdle on my and i walked out the door knowing that this was gonna be some kind of day but i faced what was ahead of me because this joy that i have the world didn't give and i'm not gonna let the world take it away so early on in this message i need you to understand what joy is it is a little bit different from happiness and i'm not the kind of christian who believes god doesn't want you to be happy because the word happy shows up in the bible too much for me to tell you that god doesn't want you to be happy but i do need to tell you there's a difference in happiness and joy psalm 1 opens up says happy is the man or woman who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners nor sits in the seat of the scornful but his or her delight is in the law of the lord and in that law in that word doth they meditate day and night and he or she shall be like a tree planted by the rich so god wants you to be happy in the beatitudes in matthew chapter 5 or 6 where jesus is teaching he says blessed blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted

39:49 blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth blessed are those who are persecuted that word blessed a synonym for it is happy and happiness is spiritual contentment but joy is better than that happiness is based on circumstantial pleasure merriment hilarity exuberance excitement or something that that causes one to feel hopeful or to be in high spirits this is rick rayner in his book sparkling gems from the greek it is a great book matter of fact for those of you that want to grow in your faith because he breaks down certain words in the bible what they mean in the original Greek and it's a word or words for every day of the year 365 days you get a Greek word and you understand the deep spiritual meaning of that Greek word and I highly recommend sparkling gems in the Greek to all of you that want to grow in your faith this year but this is what he says happiness is based on circumstance these fleeting emotions of happiness although very pleasurable at the moment usually go just as quickly as they come and then he continues later on he says but joy is unaffected by outward circumstances in fact it usually thrives best when times are tough are y'all catching me?

41:12 joy is God's supernatural response to the devil's attacks so happiness is cool but I need something on the outside that makes me happy I need some external stimuli to make me happy I need a gift, I need a call, I need a compliment I need something else outside of me to happen that makes me happy but joy doesn't need anything from the outside to happen it is something on the inside that is going to remain with you regardless of what's happening on the outside come on media team i'm about to jump down because i want them to get this for a christian joy is a feeling of inner gladness delight or rejoicing rooted in our relationship with christ joy is an inner gladness somebody say inner gladness come on somebody say inner delight somebody say inner rejoicing that is rooted in the your relationship with christ real joy doesn't matter what's happening on the outside. Real joy doesn't catch your attitude when pain shows up because real joy knows pain is not my enemy. Pain is my ally. And what's about to make my joy more complete is that I was confronted with some pain because if all my days were joy filled, I would not appreciate joy but come here frankie beverly maize it takes joy and pain sunshine and rain i'm so happy to see the sun in chicago during the winter because normally in the winter is so many cloudy days and it's so dreary looking that it can affect your emotions so the last couple of days every day i woke up and i saw the sun all i could do is smile i come out in the kitchen and the sun just beaming through the window and I said look at this Brie the sun is out and I'm trying to help

43:20 somebody here uh-huh because I appreciated the sun because there have been so many days of the clouds you appreciate joy after you've been through some pain and then people looking at you smiling and looking at you glowing and looking at you and got the nerve to be a hater and got the nerve to trying to say she thinks she ought that he think he ought that you don't know how long i waited to get this joy you don't know what i endured just to feel this good again because psalm 51 david says restore unto me the joy of my salvation if david asked god to restore it it means it's possible to lose it and some of y'all are not just mad and mean and snapping and short-tempered because you just a nasty person some of you all the truth is life has robbed you of your joy but welcome to 2025 you got a god who's about to restore the joy the inner gladness of your salvation so you might lose your job but you will not lose your joy they may break up with you or you may have to break up with them but you will not lose your joy you may get an unfavorable diagnosis but you will not lose your joy you will have some real enemies and some fake friends but you will not lose your joy some of the generational trauma that's been in your family for years with your crazy auntie your drunk uncle your mean narcissistic mama your daddy who don't show up like he should god will still give you Y'all gonna act like I ain't just named something.

45:07 Stop waiting on life to be perfect and know God is good when it's not. And you can praise him right now, not because everything on the outside is perfect. You can thank him right now for real joy. Even with bombs in Las Vegas, with terror attacks in New Orleans, with shootings in Atlanta, crime in Chicago, death and sickness all around you, somebody let hell know I got my joy back today. and I may not feel it all but I'm a decree and declare this is my season where life and haters and enemies and outside stimuli cannot ruin what's on the inside Oh, yes. You got to learn how to keep your joy. Now, here's the thing. Here's the thing. Here's the thing. Greek, the Greek word for joy is chara. Somebody say chara. Some would say kara, but today I'm the pastor, and I'm going to say it the best way I can.

Now, let me give you the Greek word for grace. charis charis or charis grace chara is a derivative of the word charis grace is charis joy is chara so I can't get chara if I have not first embraced charis that's what makes joy divine because joy is connected to god's grace oh the only way you just sitting there looking at me right now is we all need to be reminded of what grace is grace is god's unmerited undeserved unearned favor when God hooks you up with stuff you don't deserve. Have you ever been hooked up with something you did not deserve?

47:17 that's half the church i want 100 class participation because you live in in a brand new year and we did not deserve it you woke up today it's not necessarily that you deserved it you're here breathing and wearing and driving grace so congratulations if you got grace you have access to joy because of what christ did it gave you grace and now because grace is in your life you have access to joy anybody that has christ has grace anybody that has grace is a candidate for joy so joy is not a not happiness y'all it is a overflow of the grace of god i like this right here can i keep on reading this uh-huh this is important to note for it tells us categorically that chara joy is produced by by charis grace of god this means joy isn't a human-based happiness that comes and goes rather true joy is divine in the origin a fruit of the spirit a fruit of the spirit that is manifested particularly in hard times it's a fruit of the spirit that is particularly manifested in hard times and the Lord gave me this at the last service I need to just drop this on you real quick if joy is a fruit of the spirit according to Galatians chapter 5 It means I produce it.

48:52 some of y'all sitting there waiting on joy to come find you you better learn you can produce it i'm not waiting on joy to come find me and i'm not waiting on nobody to make me feel joyful because it's a fruit of the spirit and if i have the holy ghost the holy ghost does more than make me shout it makes my attitude better it makes my disposition more relaxed it changes the way i interact with people so tell your neighbor this for the first time in 2025 at the 115 service tell your neighbor i create joy you better learn the spiritual authority you have you are not waiting on joy to find you you got to learn to create it i will take myself on a date i will play a game by myself. I will go on vacation by myself. I'm not waiting on you to agree with it. I will buy what I need to buy to feel good, do what I got to do to make it through because I got to create this.

That's why I love tomorrow. keep looking straight ahead don't tell her yourself you you you got to you got to create joy and don't worry about what people think about you Trauma response Causes some of us to be people pleasers It's called fawning F-A-W-N-I-N-G You have four responses Four trauma responses psychologists say You either gonna fight That some of you just ready for a fight every day On the edge You're ready to cuss You'll be waiting to cuss somebody out You just be daring them On edge that's your trauma making you fight one of my sweet members back there right now Jill called me last year and Jill don't know this but I had to go to therapy after I talked to her because she called me look at her ready to fight back there look at her and she called me and gave me a critique about the church and I was so on edge I was so unnecessary on that phone call it got so bad that the Holy Ghost reminded me while I was on the call, you doing too much.

51:42 And I had to apologize to her on the call, but it wasn't until I got back in my therapy session that I realized I'm tired of church folks being messy. But it wasn't her being messy. I responded to her based off of what others have done in the past. Because if you don't heal, you'll cut, you'll bleed on people that didn't cut you. Ooh, teeth sharp. so I had to apologize to her on the call and I still owe her an even deeper apology because sometimes we fight folk who never hurt you and some of y'all ain't gonna get your joy back till you deal with your trauma cause everybody ain't trying to hurt you so either you gonna fight or you gonna freeze you just do nothing that's why a lot of us procrastinate you're not lazy, you're traumatized and you're such a perfectionist that you do nothing so you just freeze so you either fight, you freeze you fawn F-A-W-N you people please you do everything for everybody else as long as they happy I'm happy I don't want nobody mad at me so I'm going to do it anyway you know you tired but you I told them I go to the party but I'm going to go and then when they call you and say we canceled it you say did you you so oh my god well let me know when you reschedule and while you saying let me know you done found you a movie on Netflix pop you some popcorn and put your onesie on and sit down because I didn't want to go but I'm trying be delivered from people pleasing do what's best for you let your no be your no your yes be your yes and be free from trying to make everybody happy cause let me tell you a secret you'll never do it You see how you create joy If joy is a fruit of the spirit

And I turned 21 and my Lyme brothers... pleasures for the body and so I you know but I don't care how drunk you get when you sober up pain's still there heroin and cocaine and crack have destroyed some of our families and they were not trying to hurt you those family members they were trying to deal with their pain and so they found a way to just get some pleasure but the problem is you go up but you drop so you hit it again so you get it again then you drop and you can name the entertainers down through the centuries and people who are so gifted and so special and so sweet at their core but they were in such deep pain that they kept reaching for pleasure so you having sex over here for pleasure you getting a high for pleasure some of you overeat for pleasure You're not just big back, big back, no.

I'm in the gym right now because I don't want to be Big Back. but we eat trying to cope over shop, over sex, over drink, over drug, over whatever are y'all gonna make a sense? but pleasure just hits your body and then it passes now, the misuse of sex it's the misuse of edibles the misuse of drinking nothing's wrong with alcohol nothing wrong with some of these other substances unless you misuse it.

Can I tell you, if you are a giver, you can be happy. Because the mind interprets your giving as if you got something for yourself. I was so happy to get my goddaughter her Christmas gift when they finally got back home. And I bought the gift and we went to take

Even when I didn't get anything, I felt like I got something because I gave something. That's why it's more blessed to than it is to. I'm back in the gym working not to be a big bag, not because I just want to look good, but because when you work out and your heart is beating and your blood is flowing it impacts your mind so psychologists prove for those of you dealing with mental health issues you got to work out you've got to walk you've got to do some jumping jacks or something some sit-ups so that you get your blood flowing so your blood can flow your heart can beat and you can be happy just for increasing your serotonin your dopamines and your oxytocin so you got to get back in the gym not because i want to be a size this no i want to be happy i need to feel good when i'm doing what the lord has called me to do you will be a better mama you'll be a better husband you'll be a better student if you feel good but happiness is for the mind pleasure is for the body but joy is for the soul.

When the storm comes you will be alright because joy is gonna anchor you. Oh, that's something to holler about. When the battle comes, I can face it because a joy is going to anchor me.
