Scripture reading: Genesis 13:8-15
8So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no contention between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen. After all, we are kinsmen. 9Is not the whole land before you? Now separate yourself from me. If you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left.” 10And Lot looked out and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan, all the way to Zoar, was well watered like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) 11So Lot chose the whole plain of the Jordan for himself and set out toward the east. And Abram and Lot parted company. 12Abram lived in the land of Canaan, but Lot settled in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent toward Sodom. 13But the men of Sodom were wicked, sinning greatly against the LORD. 14After Lot had departed, the LORD said to Abram, “Now lift up your eyes from the place where you are, and look to the north and south and east and west, 15for all the land that you see, I will give to you and your offspring forever.

0:23 Let's turn with me to Genesis chapter number 13. I want to speak to you from this topic from a message that I've just simply entitled, A Lot to Lose. A Lot to Lose. Genesis chapter 13, verse number eight. So Abram said to Lot, let's not have any quarreling between you and me or between your herders or mine, for we are close relatives. It's not the whole land before you. Let's part company. If you go to the left, I'll go to the right. If you go to the right, I'll go to the left. And Lot looked around and saw the whole plain of the Jordan towards Zoar that was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt. And this was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of Jordan and set out towards the east. The two men parted company and Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. Now the people of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the Lord. And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had parted from him, look around, look up, lift your eyes from where you are to the north, to the south, to the east, and to the west, all the land that you see, I will give to you and your offspring forever. I want to preach to you this topic, this message, this thought, a lot to lose.

1:43 if you'd allow me, I wanna say a prayer over you here today. Jesus, in your name, we're so thankful for your presence. Lord, we're so thankful for your power, your spirit that we feel, your presence that calls us to more, that calls us to greater. I pray in this moment that you would help us to just open up our hearts and our minds and our spirits to receive the word that brings life to our spirit. We thank you for what you're doing in this place, what you're doing in this city, what you're doing in the lives and the hearts of families and people. We thank you for it in Jesus' name. And everybody said amen. Change is a part of life. As we all know, change can happen suddenly. Your life can change in a moment. Change in your life can happen because of something you've done or it can happen because of something that someone else has done. Many times change is because as Ecclesiastes says, time and chance happens to us all. It can be a moment, a decision, an event.

2:38 Life can change quick and it can change slow, but understand the one constant in life is that your life is going to change. And my prayer for you though, that as you walk through the certain change and the uncertainties that change is going to bring in your life, that you will do it with a foundational value that we all should possess as a Christian, that as a Christian that we always look at life through the lens of faith. Today, faith is the currency of the gospel. It's the currency of the kingdom of God. Faith is the source of life for the believer. Faith moves mountains. Faith pleases God. Faith changes things. We live by faith. We walk by faith. We talk by faith. Faith is what carries us and sustains us when life doesn't seem to make sense. Make no mistake about it today as a Christian, faith is a journey. And yet in many ways, faith is the destination.

3:33 As a 42 year old pastor still in my prime, amen, come on somebody. I stand here young enough to have the energy to, by faith, dream, walk, and live and hope for more, but I also have the wisdom of life to understand that a life of faith comes with its own challenges and own difficulties. I stand here fully aware of where I am in my own faith journey, but I'm also fully aware of where some of you may be on your faith journey. I'm aware that there are many in this room that come from many different faith backgrounds, from many different faith journeys, and many different faith places. I have to tell you here today, I grew up Pentecostal. Amen, come on somebody. This was an environment where there was aisle running, jumping, shouting, speaking in tongues. Amen, come on somebody. But today I want you to know, I assure you, I've grown in my faith. I've matured. I've grown spiritually. I'm in a new place in my faith journey, and I'm now non-denominational.

4:34 All right, all right, all right. But regardless of your background, regardless of your theology, whether you're denomination or non-denominational, what unites us today is our faith. It's our faith in the fact that 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ died on a cross for our sins, that he was buried, but he didn't stay in the grave, that three days later, he got up out of the grave and he appeared to his disciples and he said, just so you know, I'm leaving. but I'm coming again. And in the meantime, he gave them an impossible assignment. Go into all the world and make disciples, build a church, change the world. And today, if that sounds impossible, it's because it is. So Jesus said, look, I know I gave you an impossible task, but I'm going to give you the help that you need. I'm going to give you the power of the Holy Spirit to empower you to do what you cannot do on your own, what I have asked you to do. I'm thankful today for the opportunity to live out the greatest impossible assignment known to man. It's known as the Great Commission. I'm thankful for the opportunity to make disciples.

5:40 I'm thankful for the opportunity to go into all the world, to change the world. I'm thankful for the opportunity to build God's plan A to save the world. There is no plan B. I'm thankful for that opportunity. And I might be living in cornfields in Indiana and you're living in traffic in LA, but it does not change the fact today that you and I are family. We might not share the last name. We may not share the same nation or the same culture or the same background. We may have different origin stories and different skin colors and different personalities and amen, come on somebody, different political opinions. But I want to tell you today, we are the same family. If you have faith, you are my people. If you have faith in Jesus Christ, we share something deeper than blood. We share the same DNA. Because as a Christian, everything that we do, everything that we say should be driven by, led by, and fueled by faith.

6:44 Today, we walk by faith, not by our own sight. We don't walk by our own intellect as Christians. It's our belief. It's our faith. It's our hope that leads us into greener pastures and besides still waters. I live today with the belief that what God is doing in my life always makes me better, that he always leads me to greater, that he always leads me to more. And I think if we were all polled here today and we asked one another this question, I think we all would say that we want more out of life. I think we would all say we want a better life. I've yet to meet someone that doesn't want a better house or a healthier family or better quality of life. I think we're all searching for the best life that we can live, whatever version that is today that you're looking for. And there's good news because the God that I serve and the faith that I have helps me to know that what God has for me and what he has for you is full of more and it's full of better.

7:45 And you might be sitting here today though in the seat saying, I don't know though. I've been following Jesus and my life doesn't have more in it and it doesn't have better in it. And I would say today though, the reason why you feel that way is because you're looking for a better house, not a better heart. That sometimes we're looking for an easier life and God wants to give us a purpose-filled life. We want better things, but God wants to give us better friends. We want what we cannot have, but God today wants to give us what we could never earn. And what God wants to give us is more of what he specializes in, more joy, more peace, more love, more grace. It's more of what he has planned for your life, but it's not more of what you think that you might want. It's more of what you need. Today, he always wants to do more in your life. Today, whatever you're hoping for, whatever you've walked into this room dreaming for, whatever you're asking for, trust this fact.

8:41 God wants to do more than that. And I know that because that's what his word tells me in Ephesians chapter number three, verse 16. Paul states, I pray that out of his glorious riches that he may strengthen you with power. And I pray that today after service, you feel the strength of power in your inner being, that he would strengthen you with power through his spirit in your inner being so that Christ may dwell in your hearts. And this is where it is through faith. He says, I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, that's my prayer for you here today. I pray that you are rooted and established in this house. There is no house and no church like Zoe Church. This place is an unbelievable place. And I pray today that you are rooted and established in this house. But before you can be rooted and established in a house, you have to be rooted and established in love.

9:34 Why? Verse 18 tells us, so that you may have power together with all of the Lord's holy people. That's what's happening here today. All of the Lord's holy people are coming together to grasp how wide and how long and how high and how deep is the love of Christ. And to know that this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be able to be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. But I love verse 20. It sets it all up. That's just the bases are loaded and here's the grand slam, verse 20. Now to him who is able, whatever you are asking for, whatever you're dreaming for, whatever you're hoping for, he wants to do immeasurably more than we all ask or imagine according to his power that is at work within us. To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever.

10:30 Amen. And we could close service right there. and I want to tell you maybe I'm getting older I don't know what it is I'm 42 I don't know if it's a lack of sleep eating bad low testosterone or I'm just getting an I'm beginning to be an old grumpy man I don't know I there's a lot of multiple factors okay I'm trying cold plunge and sauna but it's not really working but I'm getting grumpier with age and and to be honest this verse is how I want to end every single conversation that I'm in this is how I want to end every single prayer every single conversation, every single service, everything that I do. And in fact, I want to say it to every negative, critical, backbiting, pessimistic, dream-killing Christian in the room. I know there's none of you here. They're online. But I want to say it to every person that says it can't be done. I want to say it to everyone that I possibly meet and know, to him who is able to do exceedingly above what we can even ask or think of. And look, I'm not minimizing trauma.

11:29 I'm not minimizing pain and difficulty. I'm saying that we have to live with the mindset of to him who is able. Because that's what faith looks like. That's what faith sounds like. That's what faith does. But I have to tell you today that as we look through the lens of faith with the belief that good things are coming, and maybe that's not the right way to say it. It's not that good things are coming to us. it's that we're walking to them but to walk by faith to somewhere new there's going to be a profound statement for many of you here to walk somewhere new you're going to have to you're going to have to leave where you are my encouragement in this message for you is simply this walk to better things get up from where you are, start walking, walk with faith, faith for the future, leave where you are, but you're going to have to grieve what you leave.

12:33 Because if you don't grieve what you leave, when you walk by faith, you will carry what you were supposed to leave behind. If you don't grieve what you leave here today, what you were meant to leave, you're gonna have to carry with you. And so many times in life, we aren't willing to leave to walk into new places because we aren't willing to grieve. Every life is a story and every story has chapters. The hardest part about life is knowing when to turn the page in those chapters, when to start new chapters. And for many of us, we don't want to start new chapters for many different reasons. Maybe to you, closing a chapter means if you actually turn the page, you're admitting that that relationship or that season or that moment in life might've been a failure. Maybe you're sticking around, hoping that it can actually work.

13:26 Maybe life didn't work out the way that we thought it would. Maybe sometimes it feels like closing the chapter means we are forgetting someone special or something special in that chapter. Maybe today it was a failed marriage or a friendship. Maybe it was a massive mistake in life. Maybe it was the sudden loss of someone who was your rock in your world. Today, maybe it's not even that. Maybe it's the fact that that chapter was a good thing. It was a beautiful thing in your life, but it's coming to an end and it's coming to a close. Today, I wanna tell you that just because you are leaving and just because you are grieving and just because you are walking by faith does not mean that those chapters were good or bad. It just means that no matter where you're at in life, you're choosing to continue to walk by faith. It just means that as you turn the page and as you walk into new seasons and new chapters, you are turning it with faith in your heart.

14:25 But to walk into the new, you have to leave where you are and you have to grieve what you leave. Grieve what you leave so that you can do two things. Believe that the best is yet to come and don't get stuck in a chapter that you should have left years ago. You see, grief is a natural response to loss. It's the emotional suffering that you feel when something or someone you love is now gone, different, or taken from you. It's like when LeBron leaves the Lakers, there's a season of grief that you have to, he's never coming back, y'all. I don't know where you're, you gotta grieve, baby. All right, let's keep going. Often the pain of loss that you feel, It can be overwhelming. And then sometimes it's subtle. And it moves in your life, sometimes in unexpected ways, by experiencing all kinds of difficult and unexpected emotions, from shock or anger to disbelief, guilt, and profound sadness.

15:22 The pain of grief can disrupt your physical health even, making it difficult to sleep, eat, or even think straight. I lost my dad when I was 20 years old. He was a phenomenal father, leader. And every time I think about him and talk about him, I miss him. But I remember seasons and moments of my life when I still lived at home and I could hear through the walls of our house as my mother would grieve in the middle of the night. I watched the toll that that grief took on her. And I wanna tell you here today, whatever season you're walking through, whatever thing that you're grieving, these are normal reactions to loss. And many times, the more significant the loss, the more intense your grief is going to be. Coping with the loss of someone or something, it's one of life's biggest challenges. And today I wanna tell you for walking through that or you have walked through that, I wanna say from the bottom of my heart, from a pastor who maybe you've never seen, never known, I wanna tell you from the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry.

16:26 But today I'm not necessarily referring to bereavement as much as I'm talking about grieving and leaving different seasons and chapters of life. The best advice, and if you're taking notes here today, I encourage you to write down this statement. The best advice a therapist counselor ever gave me was this, all change is loss, even good change.

16:51 All change is loss, even good change. And this is why so many of us resist change, whether it's good or bad. The idea of change because we don't want to deal with it can be something that helps us or would make us avoid change in our lives because we don't wanna deal with the emotion of loss. For many of us, change is hard because in many cases, it represents the closing of a chapter. And I just wanna tell you, I want to say to you that the feelings that people feel and change are natural, not bad. And too many of us in life see the emotions that we face as good emotions or bad emotions, But in reality, the emotions that God gives us is the very exact thing that God gave us to help us through different seasons and moments of life. And if you can learn to lean into grieving properly, you'll start to turn the page and begin to look towards the idea that the best is yet to come. Because if you don't, if you don't, you'll always see change as loss and nobody wants to lose.

17:58 You'll always see change as bad and you begin to view change through the lens of fear instead of the lens of faith. Today, I've got good news for you and bad news. The good news is you can walk somewhere new, but faith is gonna take you there. But the not so good news is you're gonna go somewhere new and you're gonna have to leave where you were. When you go somewhere new though, grieve what you leave. I went through this in my own life. I am from Houston and I stepped into a new season of ministry in Austin, Texas. And it was the best move that I could ever make in my life. I was excited about stepping into an incredible church and an amazing situation. As I moved from Houston to Austin, it was so weird because I would put the kids to bed at night and I was sad. I'm like, why am I, did I make the wrong decision? Am I doing the wrong thing? Like, why am I sad about this? I know this is the right move for my life. And I realized that I had never fully grieved what I was leaving.

18:53 and because I didn't grieve it, it stayed with me in a season where I should have been marching forward. Well, now fast forward, I go from Austin to Indianapolis and I learned that lesson the first time. I said, I'm not gonna make that same mistake. So I knew that I was leaving. I cried with everyone. I hugged everyone. I said, I love you and I know that I'm leaving, but I'm gonna come back, but you mean the world to me. And when I stepped into Indiana, can I tell you, I hit the ground running because I was able to grieve properly. this life journey, it's a beautiful journey, but it's not an easy journey. But it becomes more beautiful when you allow there to be a healthy grief in the process, even in good change. Because the journey of faith comes with its own set of challenges. Faith has its own set of difficult tests and challenges. And today, if you want to know about the journey of faith, you need to go all the way back to the father of faith.

19:52 Because while faith can get you moving, it doesn't always remind you to travel light. Sometimes we can carry into the future the very things that faith needed us to leave behind. Romans chapter four, verse 16, tells us about the father of faith, Abraham. He said, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who have the faith of Abraham, he's the father of us all. As it is written, I've made you a father of many nations. He is our father in the sight of God in whom he believed the dead, the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not. Galatians chapter three, verse seven says, understand then that those who have faith are of the children of Abraham. And if you grew up in church, you might know the song, Father Abraham. Hey man, he's done. Okay, let's just don't do it. So if you want to understand your faith journey, you have to go back to where it all began because before there was a Bible, there was the presence of God that was calling to the hearts of men.

20:49 Before Abraham was the father of faith, he was just a man responding to the presence of God. That's what the presence of God does in our life. It calls us to more. It calls us to what's next. It calls us beyond what's comfortable, beyond what's familiar and into a new place. Hebrews chapter 11, verse eight says, by faith, Abraham, when called to go to a new place, he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he had to leave some things behind. Even though he did not know where he was going. And if that's not the story of faith, I don't know what it is. Genesis chapter 12, verse one, the Lord said to Abram, leave your native country, your relatives, and your father's family, and go to the land that I will show you. God says to Abraham, get up, leave where you are, leave everyone and everything and go somewhere new. And we celebrate him as the father of faith.

21:46 And yet no one talks about how he did that. God says, Abraham, leave everyone. And Abraham says, okay, but I'm gonna bring Lot. Leave everyone, family member, your father's family, everyone that you know, go. He says, absolutely, God, I respond in faith. I hear your presence calling to me. I'm gonna step into what's next. I'm gonna go, but bring Lot. Abraham took a lot with him. The story of Abraham is the story of faith. And the story of faith is the very thing that unites each and every one of us. But the truth is when God calls each and every one of us, we have this same tendency as the father of faith to say yes to the promises of God, say yes to the presence of God and bring along this one little thing. Look, I don't know where we're going. I'm saying yes to you, but if I can just have this little bit of comfort, like this will help me.

22:43 If I can just fall back on this one thing. I love that the father of faith, Father Abraham, the hero of the faith, the one who was celebrated for following God, God says, go somewhere new and don't take anyone with you. And Abraham's first act of obedience is an act of disobedience. God says, leave everyone. and everyone says, okay, just let me, if you could just not notice, I'm also bringing a lot. Today, aren't you thankful that the examples that God gives us are full of people with issues like me and you? Anybody have an issue in the room? Just by a show of hands. Oh, okay. That was real confusing. Like 10% raise your hand. If you did not raise your hand, you should actually raise two right now, just so we know you're not a big hypocrite. Thank you.

23:37 And what I'm about to say right now, this is an homage to Pastor Chad. I had to throw this in my message just for him because the first time that I ever heard this, I heard this from Pastor Chad. So I'm just gonna quote Pastor Chad on this. I tell you, we all have an issue, even our heroes in the Bible. Noah was a drunk. Abraham was too old and he lied. Isaac was a daydreamer. Jacob was a liar. Leah was ugly. Hey man, come on somebody. There's hope for me and you. Like we can, just me, I'm sorry.

24:07 Gideon was scared. Samson was a womanizer. Rahab was a prostitute. Timothy was too young. David was an adulterer. Jonah ran from God. Elijah was suicidal. Job went bankrupt. Peter with his filthy mouth cussed and denied Jesus. And come on, that weirdo John the Baptist ate bugs. can I just tell you, if God can help them, he can help you. If God can heal them, God can heal you. If God can use them, he can use us. And some of us in this journey of faith are sitting in our struggle and our addiction and our mess, and we're waiting for our issues to go away before we say yes to Jesus. But I would say today, the biggest reason why you should say yes to Jesus is because of your issues. God can do more with a broken, messed up life than we could ever do in our pretend good behavior. God can do more with us in our mess than we could ever do in our pretend perfection. Some of us are waiting to resolve these issues, to be qualified. Let's not get it twisted. None of us are qualified. In fact, I would say we're underqualified.

25:18 I am underqualified to lead a church. Let me just tell you right now, I am in over my head. I don't know what I'm doing. Let me take it a step further. We're disqualified because we're all sinners in need of grace. But by the grace of God, aren't you thankful? The examples that God gives us in the Bible is full of people that continually make mistakes and continually mess up. I mean, I'm not even gonna go into all the things that Abraham did. That dude was a mess. Talk about therapy. That dude needed therapy. That should take the pressure off of you and me to realize we may not always get it right, but we have to keep walking by faith. We have to keep trying. We have to keep moving towards better things. And just because you messed up yesterday doesn't mean you're gonna mess up today.

26:13 And just because you messed up today does not mean that you're gonna mess up tomorrow. God said, Abraham, leave everyone and everything. And the father of faith says, okay, but let me bring Lot. And I wanna tell you today, all of us have a lot to get rid of. All of us have something to leave behind. It could be sin, it could be a relationship, it could be those old DMs, It could be ways of thinking. It could be relation. It could be the idea that you have all the answers. Whatever it is, God wants you to leave Lot behind. And FYI and BTW, Lot is nothing but a headache. And when you carry the thing that God has told you to leave, it will be nothing but a headache. But finally, after enough trouble, Abraham says, okay I've gone as far as I can carrying the thing you told me to leave behind and he comes to this moment when he doesn't know what to do he knows what to do the Bible says he built an altar and I don't know what happened to that place the Bible doesn't tell us the conversation but the Bible says he got down at the altar and he prayed a prayer and we don't know what was said but we see the result he gets up from that altar and he says I have to leave Lot behind in the Old Testament the altar was a place of dedication or rededication.

27:33 It wasn't a physical location. It was about the posture of the heart that says, I know that I can't go on like this. I've carried this thing long enough. And if I'm going to step into my purpose, if I'm going to step into what's next in faith, I have to leave this right here today. I wanna tell somebody in the room, you need an altar moment. your wife needs you to have an altar moment let me say your future wife needs you to have an altar moment your husband needs you to have an altar your kids need you to have an altar moment a moment where you say i have carried this thing maybe it's a secret thing maybe no one even knows about it but i've carried this thing forever jesus i said yes to you i followed you i heard the presence of God, I've walked in anew, but I've carried this thing with me. I go to church on a Sunday.

28:24 I lift my hands. I give, but there's this little thing that even though you called me forward, I'm bringing it with me. I can't go on like this anymore. Abraham has this altar moment, and then he gets up, and he realizes, I'm going to have to let Lot go. Two quick points, and I'm coming to a close. You have to let go. Today, the journey of faith always begins in the presence of God, and that's what makes Sunday so beautiful. We can gather to worship. And I believe this, I believe this generation loves to worship like never before. But I've noticed that people love worship nights. They just don't always love prayer nights.

29:06 And it's the presence of God that speaks to our heart. And we love that. We're not discounting that. It's what starts us on the faith journey that we love so much. But if you embrace God's presence, but you don't embrace God's process, You will never, ever get to God's purpose. God's process isn't about going somewhere new. It's about leaving some things behind. As much as it is about leaving behind the things that will destroy us in the place that God is trying to take us. So many of us love the idea of new, but we forget that we've got to leave something behind. Abraham tells us about Lot in verse nine. He says, it's not the whole land before you. Let's part company. if you go to the left, I'll go to the right. If you go to the right, I'll go to the left. Can I just tell you today, when you follow God's presence and you embrace his process, you come to the place where you live in so much freedom that the decisions that other people make don't affect your destiny.

30:17 Abraham, in his confidence and his humility, God releases Lot to make a decision that would possibly hurt Abraham. And yet while Lot was greedy and opportunistic, Abraham was blessed. Can I just tell you today, I'll take the blessing of man or the blessing of God over the opportunity of man. I'll take the provision of God over greed. I'll take what God can do in my life in his timing, in his season, in his moment. over what I'm forcing in my humanity. Lot's insecurity might've made him greedy. Lot's insecurity though, isn't gonna change what God was doing in Abraham's life because the presence of God and the process of God leads us in our journey of faith to see what Abraham saw.

31:10 Today, Abraham knew what we all should know. God can bless you in the city and he can bless you in the wilderness. God can bless me in the beautiful plains of Sodom or the desert right next to us. The purpose and the blessing of God is never about a location. It's all about the posture of the heart that says, if you want me to leave them behind, I will leave them behind. I'm not just following you. I'm saying yes to you. And then this is a second point I'm coming to a close because when you let go, you have the opportunity to look up. After Lot had gone, Verse 14, the Lord said to Abram, lift your eyes.

31:52 You've said goodbye to that person that you loved, that thing that you were carrying with you. And I know it wasn't easy. And I know it was difficult. And I know that I was asking you to do the impossible, but would you just do me a favor? Would you just, would you now lift that grieving heart and open your eyes? Look as far as you can see in every direction, north, south, east, and west. I am giving you this land as far as you can see to you and your descendants as a permanent possession. You see, it wasn't until Abraham let go that he could look up. And some of you have never learned to look up.

32:32 You've never learned to look up at what God can do because you've been hanging on to the thing that he's asking you to let go of. Letting go lifts our vision to see God things, to see bigger, to see further, to see more. Once Abraham let go, God spoke. Abraham gave Lot the choice, but God gave Abraham the land. healthy people aren't outcome-based people. Healthy people are input-based people. Healthy people aren't committed to controlling others. Healthy people are committed to their own process. I wanna tell you today, when you start to realize the process of God is going to produce a fruit in me that no outcome could fix for my life. I have a son, I'm coming to a close and we can all stand.

33:30 I have a son that plays baseball and he's an amazing son and I've worked with him so much and I've pushed him and basketball is his favorite sport, but baseball is so hard and we've worked on his swing so much and two years ago, he comes up to the plate. I'll never forget this moment. We've been working on his swing so much. You gotta get down, you gotta get over and you gotta get your elbow up and when you roll, don't turn too fast, but then swing through the ball and you gotta remember all this at the plate and baseball is supposed to be fun, but can you do everything that I've been telling you? He gets up there and bases loaded, two outs, championship game. And I'm like, this is the moment. This is what we've been waiting. This is what we've been praying for, baby. We've been working hard to do this. And y'all, he does everything right. Oh my God, his form was so good. He'd been working on the process and we're about to get the right outcome. And that pitch comes in and he lines it in the left center field gap.

34:27 an oppo taco and he's on his horse and he's running and I'm the dad that's screaming, oh my God, let's go. I love building the church, but sometimes I like sports too. And he's rounding first. And as he's rounding first, this center field, I don't know where he came from. It was impossible. 10 year olds are not supposed to be able to run like this. lays out. ESPN, y'all, full extension. In the gap. Catches the ball.

35:00 My oldest, heartbroken for him. Takes his helmet off. Tears rolling down his face. He did everything right. And he got the wrong result. So at that moment, here's the question that we asked. Do we stop doing the right thing? You got the wrong result. And if your result base and you're outcome based and you're trying to control lots. can you just see this for a moment this kid that's bawling his eyes out in that moment he had to make a decision that no matter what the outcome is if it's the right thing then I still have to do the right thing and too many of us as Christians we think if we pray the right prayer and we show up at the right time and we give a certain amount of money and we're faithful to worship night and prayer night, then maybe we're going to get the right result. Can I just tell you the right thing is to do the right thing at the right time, in the right moment, in the right season. And some of our unhealthiness comes from our constant desire to get control, get results, and control outcomes.

36:08 Abraham showed us when you let go of Lot, you can lift your eyes to what he truly wanted to do in your life. When you embrace God's presence and you say yes to his process, you start to walk into God's purpose.
