00 Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. That word looking unto is this word. Continuously say no to a thousand voices so I can give myself intently to the one voice that matters. It is this decision of the heart that says I have a supreme value for one thing. My heart is anchored in the continual expectation for God himself. Oh, wow. You know, you could tell school and ministry is not in session because checks in the mail was just the same tone as every other part of that declaration. During the school, checks in the mail takes on supersonic Checks in the mail takes on a whole new meaning. Thank you.
01 How many of you have Facebook account? Facebook. How many of you have Twitter? How about Instagram? How many of you don't know what I'm talking about? I saw this this last week or two. He said, I don't have a Facebook or Twitter account, so I just go around announcing out loud what I'm doing at random times.
29 I've got three followers so far, but I think two of them are cops. That's funny. There's this picture of a guy, he's in front of his doctor, and he's on a scale. And the doctor says, no, it's not water. You seem to be retaining food.
55 I think that's funny. I wasn't planning on going for a run today, but those cops came out of nowhere. All right. Little story. Very important that I read this to you. If I have read this before, it's been a long time. I've been gone. So I don't know what I've done here or anywhere. so i may repeat myself stutter a lot and might even drool you never know it could happen today several days ago i left a meeting at a hotel i desperately gave myself a personal tsa pat down i was looking for my keys they were not in my pockets a quick search in the meeting room revealed nothing suddenly i realized i must have left them in the car frantically i headed for the parking lot. My husband has scolded me many times for leaving the keys in the ignition.
56 My theory is the ignition is the best place not to lose them. His theory is that the car will be stolen. As I burst through the doors, I came to a terrifying conclusion. His theory was right. The parking lot was empty. I immediately called the police, gave them my location, confessed that I had left my keys in the car and that it had been stolen. Then I made the most difficult call of all. Honey, I stammered. I always call him honey in times like this. I left my keys in the car and it's been stolen. It was a long silence. I thought the call had been dropped, but then I heard his voice. Are you kidding me? He barked. I dropped you off. Now it was my turn to be silent. Embarrassed, I said, well, then come and get me.
58 He responded, I will, as soon as I can convince this cop I didn't steal your car. Ah, that's funny. You when I got up this morning I was in the kitchen getting some breakfast before coming down I get down here pretty early and I heard these words fallopian tubes and I don't know what the Lord is wanting to heal what the issue is but I have absolute confidence that the Lord is going to heal people women with issues in their fallopian tubes I had this happen a number of years ago I was in Dallas and when I walked into the sanctuary I actually heard the word deafness and later that evening probably three hours later I called out deafness it was a healing conference and 85 by the time the evening was over 85 people had been healed of deafness varying levels of hearing loss severed auditory nerve everything and so I'm very confident the Lord is going to heal that this morning so real quickly before we get into the word We're going to pray for anyone who has issues there.
17 There's also a word earlier this morning in our leadership prayer gathering that the Lord was healing people with brain damage, like trauma, injury, that sort of thing. We've seen that word actually. There's been an unusual breakthrough in healing of people who have had trauma. Terminal systemic lupus of the brain. one of our young ladies was literally dying. And a word of knowledge came identifying her condition. And she stood right back there towards the back of the room, right in the center aisle. And some folks prayed for her. When she would pass out, she would pass out from anywhere from a second or two up to a full month. She would be just gone that much at a time. She was dying, literally. It would take her two to three hours when she'd get up in the morning sometimes for the fluids that had gathered in her head to start to assimilate in the rest of the body.
15 And anyway, she stood back there, was healed. We've had extraordinary breakthrough in head trauma, brain damage, mental illness even, over 60 cases of bipolar. And we've also had this other release of learning disorders. and we had about 45 cases of dyslexia healed in 30 days. In 30 days. And this last week in England, I tell you, these really moved me. These really rocked me a lot. We had all kinds of extraordinary things happen, but the ones that, the couple testimonies that moved me maybe the most was a young mother who could not read bedtime stories to her children. And she stood up in front of the entire group just weeping and weeping because the Lord had healed her. Michael, my assistant is a medical doctor from Australia. And he took her side afterwards and got her testimony and examined her. And I mean, she's just reading like a machine. I mean, she's just absolutely no, no problem whatsoever. And another young man stood up with just so broken, so weeping because of what the Lord is healed. So I just have this sense that head trauma, regardless of where it fits in, injury, a learning disorder, any of the other issues that the Lord is going to bring healing to you as well. There's an issue here of degenerative condition. It may be in both hips.
46 Let's just go for both. I know it's in the right. Degenerative condition in the right hip. and there's pain, there's issues with nerves and muscles that shoot down the right leg. Who is that? I want to know who that is. Is that right back here? All right. I believe the Lord is going to do a creative miracle and restore. And if it's in the left hip, let's just get in on it. But I'm really aware of that issue in the right hip. So before we get into the word, I want us to pray on this one quickly. So if that's your issue, stand up. Any of the things that I just called out, just stand up. and those who are watching online step into this. We have many, many people healed over telephones, over online TV, all that stuff, and we just want to release that miracle power of the Lord. Anybody with cancer, if you're not already standing for something else, stand up because there's this absolute assignment for us to see no cancer here whatsoever. The cancer cannot survive.
45 we had three years ago we had a young lady a model from new york come into a meeting that i was at in cleveland she had up to 35 seizures a day epileptic seizures a day with medication and we prayed for i returned 11 months later she hadn't had one seizure since then but she told us told me some information she said you know actually when i walked into the building i felt it lift and we prayed for her, but I think she was healed when she came into the presence. And that's what I want to see with cancer and a lot of other stuff. It just vanishes when people come in into this presence. Those of you that are sitting around them, stand up, find out what they have. Pray quickly, speak to the issue with authority. And we pray that over those watching online. We just declare to you that Jesus paid a price for your healing. It has been purchased already. It has been purchased already. So we declare in the wonderful name of Jesus.
43 that miracle anointing right now. Head trauma, we break that cycle of trauma. In Jesus' name. we break that cycle of trauma where the devourer has stolen concentration logic reason all the things affected the peace of mind the cloudiness in reason we just say all that lifts today learning disorders lord we ask that you would come and rewire the brain let there be full connection, full function for the glory of God. We declare that the devourer, his assignment has been canceled. In Jesus' wonderful name. yep take just a moment longer if you can't reach somebody at least join your faith with someone that you can see and just pray for their breakthrough a true true spirit of breakthrough Thank you Lord.
54 If you're praying for somebody with head trauma, I want you to literally lift it off their head and declare, this thing ends today. Just lift it off. This ends today. that's right we lift it off in Jesus name Amen. Amen. Amen. All right, bless them good. Love on them. Hug them. Do something nice.
28 Let's, yeah, let's get going. wonderful wonderful Jesus alright okay you guys did good some are still praying and that's totally fine that's most important is that we see people get fully fully fully restored there's just so much going on right now things that we've seen the Lord do and it's just accelerating it's accelerating I love how Paul led in communion this morning having people come up for their first communion and being able to pray I know with some of them to receive Christ and just, I just, I love this so much. Let's just get right into the word. If you'd open your Bibles to the book of Genesis, chapter 15, I've actually, goodness, I've only got like 25 minutes.
24 So I'm gonna have to turn it on the turbocharger and pedal to the metal, see what we can cover in a short period of time. I'm going to start with giving you a reference and I'm using it as kind of a springboard to go into a subject about seeing.
03 Whatever you stare at grows. whatever captures your attention will always grow it did for Peter when he saw Jesus he walked on water when he saw waves he sank whatever you feast your eyes on actually increases in its influence and I want to take you through a couple stories in scripture that were where faith was profoundly seen by what people saw. I want to remind you that the kingdom of God is a superior reality. By superior, Paul put it this way. He said, what you can see is temporal. What you can't see is eternal. So faith being anchored in the unseen is not anchored in the absence of reality. It's anchored into a superior reality. Faith is not unreasonable. It is superior reason.
03 Faith is not unreasonable. It's superior reasoning because it moves with the mind of Christ. Jesus had this conversation with his disciples and it's a portion of scripture I've taught on goodness probably as much as any other in the last 18 years. And it's out of Mark 8. You don't need to turn there because I'm just going to kind of do a little speedy overview. But if you could picture this, the disciples have been following Jesus. They've been watching extraordinary things happen. Twice he's multiplied food for multitudes of people. And extraordinary experience. Right after one of those multiplying of food experiences, the disciples get into a boat with Jesus and they're starting to go to the other side. And Jesus wants to talk to them about influence on the mind. The two primary influences are the political system, which is humanism, the religious system, which has God at the center of everything, but he's impersonal and he's powerless. So we've got this impersonal, powerless God in the middle of everything. And then we've got humanism, which doesn't mind a belief in God, just don't bring him into the everyday affairs of people. And so these two realities are fighting for control over how you think and how you see. So much of what we get filtered to us through, oh, let me just be really honest. It'll feel good for a moment for me just to say this.
36 So much of what we get through, the major news agencies have come through a twisted worldview, which makes it impossible for people to discern and decipher what's actually happening in world affairs. And what the enemy is working to do is to try to twist worldviews so that our view of reality or view of life is consistent with political system or religious system. The other leaven that Jesus talks about is in Matthew 13. It's the leaven of the kingdom. And so he talks to his disciples. He says, be careful of the leaven of Herod and the leaven of the Pharisees, these influences on thought. And the disciples think he's talking about the fact they forgot to bring food for lunch, which to me all by itself is very funny because he's giving this powerful revelation, and they think he's scolding him because they didn't bring lunch. And so it's like Jesus, you know, says, I wasn't talking about lunch, but let's pretend I was. And then he takes them through the story. And he reminds them of the two times he multiplied food with their involvement. And then he asks them this question. So this is where I want to start.
44 He says, can't you see? He's asking his disciples, can't you see? I don't think he was requiring them to imagine a boat full of loaves of bread. I think he was wanting them to behold this reality that coexists with them, that is superior in every possible way. That when we've been exposed to the working of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, it is to shift our awareness from this world of limitation, of brokenness, of despair, etc., to a world that has more than sufficient answers for every single problem that we face. And so faith draws from this thing that we can't see. And so Jesus asks this question. He says, can't you see? And then he says, can't you hear? And then he says, can't you remember? Can't you see? Can't you hear? Can't you remember?
41 It would be fascinating just to do a study through scripture on those three things. When people saw, when they heard God, and when they remembered what he had done. When you remember, you're actually drawing upon God's history in his covenant with people. And it becomes the blueprint for how he wants to work now. It becomes the legal precedent has been set by what God has done in the past. This is what he's like as a perfect father. This is how he heals. This is how he restores. This is what he does with people. And so he says, can you see? Can you hear? Can you remember? I want to talk about seeing. Genesis 15, are you there? Verse 5. Actually, start back at 3. Abram, his name wasn't changed to Abraham yet. The breath of God wasn't added to his name yet. Then Abram said, look, you have given me no offspring. Indeed, one born in my house is my heir. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him saying, this one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir. And he brought him outside and said, now look toward the heaven and count the stars if you're able to number them. And he said to them, so shall your descendants be. And he believed in the Lord and he accounted it to him for righteousness. This is a fascinating story because the Lord actually gives him a visible prophetic picture of what was going to come forth from him. The Lord took him outside, let him look at the stars, something he will see every single night of his life as a reminder of what God said is going to come forth from him. The Lord will oftentimes put physical reminders, testimonies, something in the natural that remind us of spiritual realities. And we're to learn when the Lord gives us one of these gifts as he did for Abraham. He said, look at the stars. Look at the stars. Can you count them? That's your kids right there. And he was giving him a visual plumb line, a standard by which to measure his thoughts, his prayers, and his ambitions for the rest of his life.
47 The inability to count the amount of stars was how far beyond his expectations God was about to go and fulfilling promise in his life. I love when the Lord gives us physical reminders. I love, I like to treat the material world that way. I don't like materialism, but I love when the Lord speaks through material things. I've had so many situations throughout my life that God has used. I have a painting, a piece of art on my wall in our living room, we do, that we bought as a gift from my dad. My dad had died in January. An investment he made, he thought went south after he died. It went north and gained a substantial amount of value. My mother found it, I forget all the details, but sold it and then gave each one of the kids some money out of this investment. And so Benny and I wanted to put it into something that would be a regular reminder of God who is able to answer promises long after you think they've died.
03 And so we have a physical reminder that prophesies. It's much like the stars in the sky where God says, listen, this is who I am. This is what I have said. And I'm going to unfold the detail of this in your life. There've been times throughout my life where I could literally walk you through every room in the house and I could say, all right, this came in this season. It's more than a bookshelf. It's more than a chair. It's more than whatever. This came as a result of a breakthrough that I had with the Lord. And he's given me this item to let me remember day after day after day, this is who he is to me. And Abraham had that from the Lord. It was the stars in the sky. And he will do the same for everybody in this room who truly has the ambition to excel in faith. It is a practical desire when you discover that God, it's impossible to please him apart from faith. That's no small matter. It's impossible to please him apart from faith. And so we have this unusual story with the stars. Jump with me quickly to Genesis 30.
07 Genesis chapter 30. We've got a very funny story here. This would be actually more fun to take some time on sometime. Jacob this is a weird story let me just read it and then I'm going to explain to you what we read if you didn't get it it's Genesis 30 we'll start with verse 37 Jacob took for himself rods of green poplar and of the almond and chestnut trees he peeled white strips in them he exposed the white which was in the rods And the rods which he had peeled, he set before the flocks in the gutters, in the watering troughs, where the flocks came to drink, so they should conceive when they come to drink.
04 Down to verse 41. It came to pass, whenever the stronger livestock conceived, Jacob placed the rods before the eyes of the livestock in the gutters, so that they might conceive among the rods. But when the flocks were feeble, he did not put those rods there. the feebler were Laban's the strongest were Jacob's this is just a bizarre story let me explain to you what happened because I don't have time to take you through the whole chapter Jacob's been working for his father-in-law for like ever forever and his father-in-law keeps changing the contract he's been stealing from his own son-in-law he's just a deceptive rascal and the Lord wants to release Jacob from this kind of bondage that he's living under Laban's household he's prospered his household dramatically the guy has succeeded because of the favor of God on Jacob. And so Jacob's wanting to leave with his family and start his own family and allow the Lord to prosper them. So he goes to his father-in-law after he's been betrayed by his father-in-law multiple times. And he goes and he says, listen, I've got an idea. He says, how about I take, after a certain period of time, I just take just the livestock that doesn't look normal. It's spotted and speckled. Sheep that are spotted and speckled. I'm just going to take those with me. That'll be my salary from you. And the father-in-law thinks, that's awesome because there's hardly any of those. And then Jacob gets this idea.
34 He's going to take sticks of wood and he carves in the side of the branches so that they're spotted, they're spiked, they're striped. And then whenever the sheep come down to water, he takes these spotted and speckled stakes. He drives them into the ground. So as the sheep, goats, whatever, as they come to water, they see spotted and speckled. When they mate, because that's where they would mate, they would reproduce spotted and speckled animals. Told you it was a weird story. You reproduce what you behold. whatever we set our eyes on. You know this, I remember as a kid, I was just thinking of this the other day. My assistant, Michael's a doctor from Australia who helps me.
30 We were just talking about some of these kinds of things. And I remember this as a kid, I fell on my bicycle. So you remember the handlebars or the plastic things on the end? Well, mine had worn off, and so it was there, but it was pushed up, and it was just the metal. And I fell, and that handlebar just gouged me right here. I remember it so clearly right here. And so we put whatever kind of stuff you put on cuts and did all that. I remember as just a kid, probably seven years old, eight years old, if I looked at it, it would hurt. If I looked away, there was no pain. that's weird I mean a day later I'm just going around, everything's fine, playing baseball do whatever I'm doing and then I remember I got cut I'd look at it and I would actually feel pain when I saw it I'm sure somebody can explain how and why that happens I don't really care at the moment all I know at the moment is that whatever I stare at grows and when I look at waves when I look at contrary opinion when I entertain these things I set myself up to actually be very, very weak in faith.
37 And what the Lord is looking for is a group of people. It's not through striving. It's actually through this yielded relationship, this relationship that is impressionable, impressionable to the voice, to the voice of the Lord. As he speaks that simple word of promise, as vast as Abraham's promise was, I don't know that it came in a thundering voice. all we know is he looked up at the sky and he realized God's promise is bigger than the sky and he beheld that and he considered that and it shaped his life so much so that he became known as the father of faith and his breakthrough in beholding is to be our breakthrough in beholding here's what stands out to me I've given you just a couple old testament stories but here's what stands out to me. I remember Hebrews 11 is this great fact. Why don't you just go to Hebrews 11? That'll speed things up. So I feel like I'm on.
34 like I've had 14 cups of espresso. I'm about to explode right in front of you, but it'll be beautiful. Hebrews 11 is this chapter where God lists great people that believed him throughout all history. And it's a fascinating list because some of them didn't believe quickly. But they eventually did. And when you hear God's point of view of the story they just believed quickly. because he only records the part that we did right, you know, which is, what an encouraging story right there. So here's Hebrews 11, this great chapter of faith. We call it the Hall of Fame for faith. When you read through this chapter, I encourage you to do this on your own. Look for every time somebody saw something or they considered something or they contemplated or they rehearsed, they would meditate on something. Look at every time that sort of a word is used because it's actually describing the role that seeing has with faith.
49 seeing is believing that's usually a weak unbelief statement because it is saying I'm not going to believe until I see with my own eyes what's happening and yet according to scripture seeing is believing if you're seeing what he's saying if you're seeing what he's saying if you're connecting to the voice of God and you hear the heartbeat of God for you then suddenly the shift in perspective I guess if there was one thing I would want to communicate today that is a repeat over and over again for us is that faith doesn't come from striving it comes from surrender it's not the result of effort or labor it's just because he speaks we listen and we refuse to allow other voices to dictate how we think, how we see I want to show you, instead of taking you through Hebrews 11 as I had planned I want you just to get right into Moses' story in verse 24 by faith Moses when he became of age refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin. My goodness, that's a stunning statement right there. Verse 26, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt. For he looked to the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king. All right, go back to 26. He esteemed the reproach of Christ as greater riches than the riches of Egypt. Stunning statement. And then it says, for he looked to the reward. He looked to the reward. Hebrews 11, 6 has this verse for us that helps to define faith. It says,
56 he who comes to God must believe that he is and that he is the rewarder of those who seek him. I've heard many people say through the years, well, I'm just, I'm not interested in reward. I just want to serve the Lord and please him and honor him. Yeah, that's fine, but it's not how he thinks. He thinks your faith should, your faith needs a boost by getting a revelation of reward because half of faith is connected to his nature as rewarder. So he says, those who come to God must believe that he is, number one, that's his existence. But number two, his nature, his existence and his nature. He is the rewarder of those who seek him. So faith is actually anchored in, first of all, his existence. I hear people say, well, I know God can do it. That's awesome. So does the devil.
49 We've got to have greater faith in the devil. He knows what God's capable of doing. What faith does is it positions for what God is about to do. So here's this statement. It says he esteems the reproach of Christ, greater riches than the treasures of heaven, for he looked to the reward. Listen to this definition of this word, looking for reward. It's very profound. The word look means to continuously look away from everything else in order to look intently at one object. he's looking to the reward. This same basic word is used in a few verses later in Hebrews 12, verse one and two, where he says, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. That word looking unto is this word, continuously say no to a thousand voices so I can give myself intently to the one voice that matters. It's not a casual floating through life. It's not a casual just adjusting to whatever circumstances come. It is this decision of the heart that says, I have a supreme value for one thing. That is the voice of the Lord. It's what he says. It's what he is doing. My heart is anchored in the continual expectation for God himself, for God to speak, for God to reveal himself, to show me what to do. My heart is anchored in this one thing.
23 So to look to the reward, or in Hebrews 12, 2, to look unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith, looking to him is to say this, I have said no. In fact, the word means to continuously say no, to continuously look away from a thousand other options so that I might give myself intently with extreme focus and energy to the one thing I'm willing to say yes to. It's not casual. It's very deliberate. It doesn't require energy in the sense of striving and work. It requires yieldedness. That I've said no to all this. I've said no to all this. I have yielded and said yes to the one thing. I am going to assume, and I'm sure I'm accurate in this, that all of us together have this one desire, and that is to be a person of great faith. It's one of the things that we would just say together, man, you can't please God apart from faith, and this matters to me. This matters a lot to me, that I would be pleasing to the Lord. Some would say, well, we're already pleasing. That's how he accepted us, brought us into the family. Yeah, yeah, I understand that. I'm not going to increase his love for me by having great faith. But there's something of the heart of God that delights in a person that believes him when every other voice around him says no. That one confident expression that says, I believe you.
01 I think this has more than this has to do with more than praying for somebody to see them healed more than financial provision for somebody in need more than restoration of brokenness in family whatever it might be as much as I love seeing those miracles I believe the Lord wants to adjust our world view I believe he wants to adjust the way we value every single day we're given and what we've been assigned to become and to display because you and I will always reproduce spotted and speckled according to what we behold as we come to be refreshed in him as we come to cross pollinate and truly engage life with one another.
02 As Eric and Candace say to us, to know and to be known, to connect with people. There's something in that engagement that what we behold of the promise of the Lord, that literally is what we reproduce. And I believe that the Lord is wanting to bring a measure of breakthrough that is beyond anything we have ever known before in our life. And this is what I'm praying. I'm praying that something would happen today a deposit of God in the heart of people, divine encounter that would be released to every single person, every child, every infant in the nursery, everyone, that something would happen today where God would release over you a promise of the size of the stars in the sky, a promise beyond what you would have the intelligence to ask for. And not only that, that something would start unfolding today, something would start rolling today where the greatest, most significant breakthroughs of your life. This co-laboring partnership with God himself as the perfect loving father that today would begin the greatest season of breakthrough that you've ever seen in your life. The things that you have fought for for years would unfold. I don't, this is not a careless moment. It's not a careless prayer. I don't pull this on you very often, but I believe it's a divine moment where we're to pray and make decree over one another that this is a season of extraordinary breakthrough. And I believe that it is. I believe that the Lord has set you up in your businesses, in your neighborhoods, in places of relationship and influence.
37 Just that one miracle this morning of a son in the Navy that hasn't contacted mom in three months, hasn't heard a thing, that when Paul talks about this one issue at communion, a phone call is made that initiates at least the beginning of that miracle. This is what God is doing. It's a right right now. It's a right now invasion of God into realms of impossibility. So I want you to stand up. I want to pray over you. And then we'll wrap up this morning. most of the time when we see breakthrough by breakthrough I mean cancer leaves here out of debt over here impossible family reconciliation happens over here a wayward child returns over there when we see breakthrough like that almost all the time 99% of the time it happens sporadically and then it spreads I want this one to hit like a tidal wave. I want this one to hit like a tidal wave. I do.
41 I want to pray that a massive wave of breakthrough would absolutely catch everybody off guard. That the goodness of the Lord would be seen upon your life in a way that you accelerate in favor and that you realize what the favor is there for, that the Lord has put a hand of favor upon you because he's positioned you to cause others to see his kindness and to draw them to him because of his kindness. That is the mark of blessing on people. I pray that over you right now. I ask father in the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus, that this one would hit like a tidal wave. This one would hit, uh, what would in the negative be a violent and destructive. In this case would be reconstructive and restore and bless and release promise and blessing that this tidal wave of breakthrough would hit the people of God in these next three and four weeks where a new season begins, where we actually have to be careful about what we pray for because it happens so quickly that we quit praying the religious prayers.
48 We quit praying just things to sound good, but we start praying things to actually reconstruct the lives, our lives and the lives of people around us. Because we pray for this invasion of the Holy Spirit of God to come and to impact entire cities and entire regions in the mighty name of Jesus. Cancer, be driven from the house. Learning disorders, be driven from the house. All these afflictions of the heart and mind, be driven from the house in Jesus' name. And I do pray for jobs and better jobs, the whole deal, that this would be a season of great economic favor and breakthrough, and that our entire city would come under the influence of that favor and breakthrough, that decisions would be made by the fathers of our community, by industrial heads, by CEOs of corporations, that Reading would be put on the map, and things would shift over these next three months that helped this city for the next 50 years. God, bring this breakthrough, I pray. Bring this breakthrough. We call on the name of the Lord Jesus to cause a domino effect that permanently marks this city as the city of salvation with a river of sacrament flowing right through its center. We pray this in Jesus' name. In Jesus' name. Amen.
