… judge, sort of like a legal assistant or maybe even an attorney. The Holy Spirit is pleading before God the Father. 1 John 2.1 uses the same word when it says, if any of us, if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our cause before the Father. He's Jesus Christ who is truly righteous. Okay, so wait. I'm getting confused now. So I have an advocate, Jesus Christ. I get that. He stands for me before God. But now Jesus is saying, I'm sending you Wait, I have two defense attorneys? That's right. You have two, both pleading your case. Two legal counsels. Same word is used for both. One stands at the right hand of the judge, ready at any moment to plead our case. That would be Jesus. The other stands by our side, pleading our case. And this is an amazing thing. You know, I don't know if you've ever been to court before. I was on Camp Pendleton. I was going to surf with Raul Rees. And he was a Marine, so he had access to the base. So he's in his car. And I'm following him. And the speed limit there is very, very slow. …
he is in heaven. But fortunately, Satan isn't the only one in heaven. Hebrews 7.25 says, we have an advocate who makes intercession for us day and night. In 1 John 2.1, John says, brethren, I've written these things to you so that you may not sin. But if you do sin, you have an advocate, a lawyer in heaven who is Jesus Christ, the righteous. Aren't you glad we've got an advocate in heaven for us. That's who we have, Jesus Christ the Lord. He accuses them before God day and night. Thank God he has been thrown down. Verse 11, and they, that is the tribulation saints, overcame him because of the blood of the lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. He's talking about the tribulation saints. And he says, and they overcame Satan. What do you mean they overcame Satan? They got their heads chopped off in the tribulation. They got thrown in the fire because of their faith. …
… Some of you are going to leave here and be like, I never want a donut again. 1 John 2 1 John says my little children these things I write to you so that you may not sin and if anyone sins we have an advocate with the father that's amazing advocate is like defense attorney with the father the bible says that satan is the accuser of the brethren he's constantly looking for reasons to accuse you you took a little bite of the donut he's like ah see that God? You see that? That's your child right there. Look at what they just did. See that? They got the crumb right there on the side of their cheek. And that's when Jesus steps up. Yes, Father, they did. And he shows the nails and the blood. Done. Of course, when we do, yeah, amen. When we do, we do need to confess it. Father, forgive me. I have sinned. I did that thing. I know you told me not to. You are still a child of God, but you've broken fellowship. To restore fellowship, 1 John 1, 9. Confess it. He's faithful and just to cleanse it. He'll wipe that donut right off the corner of your cheek and treat you as though you never snuck a bite of the donut. …
… What does that do to our vulnerability? First John 2, 1, My little children, I'm writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And when you do sin, you have an advocate, an intercessor, a great high priest who intercedes on your behalf, so that nothing can ever separate you from God. And so that is to say that all divine resources are yours, all the resources in the heavenlies are yours, God is yours, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, to come to your aid in the battle. So the first three parts of the armor, a belt that pulls everything together that speaks of commitment, a breastplate of righteousness that speaks of living a righteous and holy life as protection, and thirdly, being able to stand against anything and everything the devil throws at you because you have backing from the eternal God, Creator, Redeemer, and your loving Father. So commitment to live the truth, pursue righteousness, stand firm, trusting in God to give you strength. …
