… is in his son. He who has the son has the life. He who does not have the son does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the son of God in order that you may know you have eternal life. Who is it that knows they have eternal life? Those who believe in the name of the son of God. We've talked about this before. That word believe doesn't mean an intellectual assent to a certain set of facts about Jesus. You can believe all the things about Jesus correctly, that he was the son of God, that he died on the cross for the sins of the world, that he rose again on the third day. You can believe all those things and go straight to hell when you die. The Bible says even the demons believe those things. No, to believe means to trust in, to cling to, to put your whole weight upon. To trust in Jesus means to come to that place in your life when you realize you cannot save yourself. That it is only through what Christ did for you and dying on the cross and receiving the punishment that God intended for each of us. Only by clinging to, trusting in, putting your whole weight upon Jesus Christ is your heart stamped forgiven and you are welcomed into the presence of God. And notice what John said. He said, I've written these things so that you may know that you have eternal life. God doesn't want us to face death …

Listen, if you just prayed that prayer, I want you to know that God has heard you and has answered it. The Bible says, these things we write to you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, that you may know. It's yours now. God has given it to you because it's the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Congratulations and welcome to the family of God. Yeah, yeah, that's right. And listen, When they give, how is that money used? That's a great question. So the answer is, it goes into our ministry, which is quite diverse. It goes into our crusade ministry. And by the way, we just wrapped up a crusade in July at Angel Stadium, and we saw the Lord work. We saw people committing their life to Christ as they have for 35 years. It's absolutely amazing. It goes to our radio broadcast. It goes to reaching people through our television ministry and other opportunities that come our way. I have to tell you, we have some amazing opportunities in this coming year. And I'll tell you more about them as we get closer to it. But what a great time to be bringing the gospel. I'm so thankful as we have just celebrated our 250th birthday as a nation that we have the freedom in the United States of America to preach the gospel and to teach the Word of God. Never take that freedom for granted. It really is a privilege. That's why so …

… felt nothing. That doesn't really matter because God's Word says, these things we write to you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. It doesn't say, so you may think you have it, or you may hope you have it if God's in a good mood. No, that you can know it. And I want you to know, if you pray that prayer in a minute, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, has come into your life. So congratulations. You're now a Christian. Now continue to follow the Lord.

… And you sense that as well, don't you? We're told over in 1 John 5.13, these things we write to you that you may know that you have eternal life because you believed on the name of the Son of God. So let's review. The Holy Spirit comes to bring us to Jesus. He seals us. The Holy Spirit reminds us we're God's children. Here's another one. The Holy Spirit teaches us. John 14.26, the helper, Jesus says, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and will bring to your remembrance all things that I have said to you. Have you ever had a time where you're just reading the Bible and all of a sudden it just comes alive? A verse just jumps off the page and it speaks to you so directly. That's exactly what you needed to hear. Or has there been another occasion where maybe you're sharing your faith with someone or encouraging or ministering to someone. And suddenly a verse that you don't even remember memorizing jumps into your brain and you're quoting it perfectly. And you're saying, how did that happen? That is the work of the Holy Spirit teaching you and bringing things to your remembrance. And also the Holy Spirit leads us. …

… You must believe it because the Bible teaches it. But once you believe, you can know that you have eternal life. This is the key. Because he says in 1 John 5, 13, these things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know you have eternal life and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. He doesn't want you walking around wondering if you're going to go to heaven when you die. He wants you to know it. You know, when you know something, you're absolutely confident and certain of it. And when you talk to others, you talk to them with a certainty and a confidence because you know it. If you don't know it and you're like, yeah, I don't know, I think so. I mean, might, maybe, right? You ever gone and bought a car and you start asking questions about the car? Can this car do this? And the salesman's like, oh, I don't know. …

It’s Not the Thought That Counts
Levi Lusko, 2025-09-29

… this is what God has said about how things are. And these things, John says, I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. You might want to highlight or underline that verse. Someone said that one verse is the entire book of 1 John in a nutshell. So as you rethink about and reinterpret the whole book of 1 John to yourself afresh, it can be understood through the pinhole that you see the light shining through of verse 13. I wrote everything I wrote to you so that those who believe in the name of God may know that they have eternal life and continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. Now, this is the confidence. Someone say confidence. Confidence. That we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. …
