This is consistent language throughout the epistle. 1 John 2.29, everyone who practices righteousness is born of God. 1 John 3.9, whoever has been born of God does not sin for his seed remains in him. 1 John 4.4, you are of God little children. Notice the correlation. Now, when you get a little baby and they start growing up, initially they don't act exactly like mom and dad, but they do as they begin to grow up, don't they? Because they pick up your mannerisms. They begin talking like you. They begin to act like you. You might tell them, do as I say, not as I do. But they do as you do and not as you say, because they're better at mimicking and imitating, especially when the message is overpowering and constant. You see, so it's important that we understand that we will mimic who we are around the most. You see, if we're around the Lord the most and around his people who are also in turn trying to reflect and imitate him, then we can do like Paul said, imitate me as I imitate Christ. You understand?
