David asked the men who were standing with him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Just who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? … Something rose up in david a fire on the inside He said who is this uncircumcised philistine that he should defy the armies of the living god He went to king saul and told him he wanted to fight goliath Saul said, David, you're just a boy. You're too small too young. You don't have the training the experience Don't let people talk you out of what god put in your heart. There will always be a soul in life Someone telling you what you can't do You're not good enough that business won't make it. You're not going to get well Do yourself a favor tune all that out. They don't control your destiny They didn't breathe life into you. They didn't call you equip you anoint you god did David went out to face this giant He was almost twice david's size and goliath had a full set of armor A shield that weighed 125 pounds. He was their most skilled warrior The champion of the philistine army and here david had no formal training no armor no shield All he had was a slingshot and a few stones How could he have this boldness this faith when all the circumstances were against him? …
… forth and so on. He's a typical aspiring but very, very talented, gifted younger brother, youngest brother, seven older brothers. He asked the question, for who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God? My roommate, who was a quarterback on the USC football team, absolutely loved that verse. The brazen, brash, confident, devout David, all those talents and yet the full, rich devotion with God. But the point I really want to make is that this is not the only thing about David, is that he seeks after God. There was much else going on in his life, and I think that's true for us as well. We're not saying this is the only thing. We're not saying like he was locked up in a monastery and all he did was read the Bible and pray all day long. No, he had a rich life that was full of various activities. the God of redemption is the God of creation and the God of providence. And so He's made us in a certain way, and He's guided our development and guided our growth, developing those gifts that He's given to us, and He expects those gifts to be used, and that will lead us into different callings. So, the point is, it's not the only thing about David. Apparently, he had tremendous personal charm as well, in addition to all his talents, so much so that Saul's daughter, the king's daughter, Michael, fell in love with him, pursued him, wanted to marry him, …
… ran when they saw Goliath. All right. Then David said, David spoke to the man, verse 26, by him. And he said, what shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine? I love this so much. What does the guy get who kills Goliath, this uncircumcised Philistine who defies the army of the living God and the people around him? Answered him and said, in the same manner, so shall it be done for the man who kills this Goliath. Eliab, his older brother, oldest brother, comes down and he said his anger was aroused against David. And he said, why do you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and your insolence. Listen, the moment you start talking about reward, you will have some of the brethren, some of the brethren who will come to you and say, I know of your pride and your insolence. You self-centered. That's just to encourage you. It's just God's gift to us. I know of your pride, the insolence of your heart. …
