because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and with great conviction—just as you know we lived among you for your sake.and that our Good News came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and with much assurance. You know what kind of men we showed ourselves to be among you for your sake. For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.how that our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; even as ye know what manner of men we showed ourselves toward you for your sake.

Christian – Is That You ?
Jack Hibbs, 2026-07-29

… God picked me. For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance. As you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake. Verse 6. And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction. That's powerful. The Thessalonians believed that what Paul and his team were preaching must be real. because of their argumentation, number one, and then what they went through by way of affliction. In other words, they didn't change their story when they were under attack. They stuck with it with joy of the Holy Spirit so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. For from you, the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out so that we do not need to say anything. Wow, they had a very powerful witness. …

1 Thessalonians 2:1-12
Skip Heitzig, 2026-03-11

… Verse 5. For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance as you know what kind of men we were among you. The gospel came to them, Paul says. How did it come to them? By Paul coming to them, and Timothy coming to them, and Silas coming to them. This little trio came to them in Thessalonica and shared the gospel to them. That's how the gospel came to them, not in word only, but in word initially. They had to articulate truths of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection, that is the gospel, but also in power by the Holy Spirit. So the gospel came to them, but now compare verse 5 with verse 8 of chapter 1. For from you the word of the Lord sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone out so that we do not need to say anything. …

1 Thessalonians 1

… were chosen in Christ from before the foundations of the earth. For our gospel did not come to you in word only. but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake. Our gospel didn't come to you in word only. It came to you in word initially, but not just in word is the idea. But it has to come in words initially. This idea of, you know, preach the gospel and if necessary, use words is a stupid thing to say. It's always necessary to use words. You must articulate the basic truths of the gospel. How shall they hear or how shall they believe in one they have not heard? How shall they hear unless somebody speaks to them? In Romans it says that somebody has to come and bring the message, and you have to hear the message and believe the message. So it came to you in word, but not only in word, but in power. …

… Chapter 1, page 1826. 1 Thessalonians 1 verse 5 for our gospel did not come to you in word only but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake Thank you. The power of God upon a person's life is for two basic functions, two basic reasons. One is to demonstrate nothing's impossible, but number two, to give a supernatural ability for endurance. The endurance may be the duration from the time you pray until there's a breakthrough. The endurance may be the enduring persecution or opposition. But as you read through the book of Acts, as you read through and examine the Apostle Paul's life, you'll find that the demonstration of power was to confront and bring impossibilities, the breakthrough of a yielding of impossibilities into people's lives, the miracles, the deliverances, the transformations of complete cities, places that have been occult centers that would be transformed into habitations of great presence and power. It happened because the power of God was present. But the power was also what enabled them to endure opposition, difficulty, and persecution. The reason it's important to recognize that is that you can tell how full of the Holy Spirit person is by what it takes to distract them or discourage them. …

Preaching God's Word: Why it Still Matters
Adrian Rogers · Scripture reading

… and he says, For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance, as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. And ye became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction with joy of the Holy Ghost, so that ye were examples, that's what the King James says, actually, examples to all them that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. For from you sounded out the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God were to spread abroad, so that we need not speak anything. For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and the true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised up from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. …
