Christian – Is That You ?
Jack Hibbs, 2026-07-29

He's actually talking about their spiritual leaders. Verse 13, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake, be at peace among yourselves. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the faint-hearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all, see that no one renders evil for evil to anyone. In other words, knock it off with your revenge. Stop that. But always pursue what is good, both for yourselves and for all. Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. And in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus. For you, do not quench the Spirit, that is the Holy Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things. Hold fast to what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely and may your whole spirit soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ who calls you his faithful who also will do it he who calls you is faithful who will also do it brethren pray for us greet all the brethren with a holy kiss I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read to all we just did it tonight the holy brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And God's people said, amen. Amen. Real quick. Almost done. Almost done. Very, very quickly. 1 John chapter 3, verse 2. …

Now he's turned, he's pivoted here from clearing up end time events, clarifying the day of the Lord, to giving them instruction of practical instruction what to do in the life of the church. Now we exhort you, brethren, Warn those who are unruly. Comfort the faint-hearted. Uphold the weak. Be patient with all. I love how Paul breaks down the different classifications of people in the body of Christ. The first group, warn those who are unruly. This is the spiritually defiant child. The defiant Christian. The unruly. Warn those who are unruly. Every now and then you get a believer, saved, but tough as nails, defiant. They need more discipline than most. Every parent knows what that kind of a child is like. My parents had four boys. The first one, Jim, was very compliant. and then they became less compliant as the children went on. …

What it Means to be Spirit-Filled
Francis Chan, 2017-11-26

… and admonish you and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. You know, this Thanksgiving, as I was thinking about that verse, it says, we ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. As I was just thanking God this Thanksgiving, I just thought about our pastors, your pastors, and what they do on a weekly basis, on a daily basis. And they would never read this verse to you, you know, and say, hey, esteem me, love me. but I thought you know when you get the chance we live in a time where everyone is so arrogant and opinionated and they just come believing that they know better everyone knows better and it is so hard in this day and age to lead I'm cool with it because I've been doing it for a while but I know a lot of these pastors that are new aren't used to a lot of the criticism and it's just it's just very hard to lead I mean who leads well right now you know it's just we live in that type of culture but God wanted the church to be different and he says you know what we ask you respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and it and it might they're even the ones that admonish you okay he's saying respect …
