Christian – Is That You ?
Jack Hibbs, 2026-07-29

… sober. Sober. This word sober means spiritually vigilant. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. Here it is, verse nine. for God did not appoint us to wrath. That's a rapture verse, folks. But to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Wait a minute. I thought we had salvation already. We do. But when is your salvation consummated? When is it finalized? When you meet Jesus, it's all done. The total, absolute salvation. Look, we're saved, and we are in route to finally being safe. when does that happen? when the believer either dies or when Christ shows up we're safe isn't that good? I love that it's so beautiful verse 10 who died for us that whether we wake or sleep living or dead we should live together with him therefore comfort each other and edify one another just as you are also doing and we urge you brethren to recognize those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you. …

… Those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us, again the contrast, who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. Cover your heart, cover your mind, the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath. One of the key verses in his whole teaching. God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Okay, you see the word salvation appears in both of those verses. he's talking about the future and our future salvation do you remember Sunday I said that we're saved in three different senses past present future we're saved in the past from the penalty of sin moment you gave your life to Christ hell had no grip on you you were transformed and transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light You have been saved, past tense, from the penalty of sin. You are being saved right now in the present tense from the power of sin. …

… I'm glad you asked the question. Turn to 1 Thessalonians chapter 5, verse 8. Just jot it down because you ain't going to never find it. 1 Thessalonians chapter 5, verse 8. And here's what it says. Matter of fact, he tells us what the two elements are that make us have, that empowers us to have the breastplate of righteousness. Here's what he says. 1 Thessalonians chapter 5 verse 8. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love. Stick a pin. Stop right there. There it is. Those are the two elements. Faith and love. Say that back at me. Say faith and love. Look at your neighbor. Say make sure you got faith. Turn to the other side. Say make sure you got love. Faith and love. Those are the two essential elements to being in right standing with God. And he says I want you to protect yourself. Protect your faith and protect your love, your ability to love. …

Final Judgment Launched (Revelation 8:1-5)
John MacArthur, 2024-04-14

… for those who sleep do their sleeping at night and those who get drunk get drunk at night but since we are of the day let us be sober sober minded serious in our thinking having put on the breastplate of faith and love and as a helmet the hope of salvation for God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, that is to say, when He comes, whether we're alive or dead, we will live together with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing." The world should look at the judgment to come with sheer panic. We look at it with hope, because we're not destined for wrath, but for obtaining salvation. How do we know that? Because Christ died for us so that we would live together with Him. It's either with Him forever or without Him. Our Father, again, your Word comes to us as divine light, divine truth. …

… 1 Thessalonians 5, 8, Since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. We're talking about the hope aspect of it. I don't hope that my sins are forgiven. That's past. I don't hope that I'm being sanctified. That's present. I hope for the future fulfillment of salvation that I'll be delivered into the presence of the Lord. So that's what he's talking about. Put on the helmet, which is the hope of salvation, for God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. If you have been saved and are being sanctified, you will be glorified. Nobody gets dropped in the process. Nobody can take us out of God's hand. Nobody can break the love that God has toward us and for us. No accusation in Romans 8 can stand against us. You're going to glory. That's the promise. You're on the way to the final salvation. …
