… to 2 Peter 1, where Peter writes, for we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we may known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to him from the excellent glory. And what did it say? It said, this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. You wanna underline that, on the holy mountain. And so we have, I love this, the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Now, every message in this series, if you've been paying attention, has come from the epistles of 1 or 2 Peter. … professor at UNM or the Muslim apologist. Those are not the only attacks on biblical truth that we need to contend with. Look at verse 16 of chapter one. For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Instead, we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received glory and honor from God the Father when the voice came to him from the majestic glory saying, this is my beloved son with whom I am well pleased. We ourselves heard this voice when it came from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. We need to be aware of this because we'll see this happen a lot, right? Some pastor, some speaker, some self-proclaimed apostle or prophet says, I have been to heaven and I want to tell you all the secrets about it, right? There's plenty of TV shows that broadcast these individuals. I'm trying to find a nice word. But the whole point is just like, I have been to heaven. …

… 2 Peter, he writes, he says, he says, we did not follow cleverly devised myths. We made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. He's talking about this morning. He's talking about today when they see Jesus risen from the dead. This is not a myth. It's actually true. And that's, you know, our OCIA people, We tell them this again and again and again. The only reason to believe anything is because it's true. But if it's true... what does it mean? You know, C.S. Lewis had once said, he had said, Christianity, if false, is of no importance. If Jesus didn't really rise from the dead, it's of no importance. Christianity, if true, is of absolute importance. He said the only thing Christianity cannot be is marginally or relatively important. It is either unimportant if Jesus didn't really rise from the dead, or it's absolutely important if he did. And it's true that Jesus really is who he says he is. …

… of the acts of God. Peter, that fisherman, tells us that he saw something amazing on the Mount of Transfiguration. It says in 2 Peter 1 verse 16, for we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were, hello, So eyewitnesses of his majesty. And now he describes what happened when Jesus went up on the mountain, took Peter, James, and John, and Elijah appeared, and Moses appeared, and the glory of God appeared on the mountain. He, Jesus, received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the majestic glory saying, this is my son whom I love. With him I am well pleased. we ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain we also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable and you will do well to pay attention to it as to a light shining in a dark place until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts above all you must understand that no prophecy of scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. …
