We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts,We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:And we have the word of prophecy made more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts:

… But all the wisdom you need to handle the stress and the change in life is here. 2 Peter 1, verse 19. Some of you maybe have never even seen this verse. It says this. We have greater confidence in the message of the prophets. What's the message of the prophets? It's the Bible. God inspired prophets. men to write down what God wanted them to write down. We call it the Old Testament and the New Testament. God inspired the message of the prophets. This is the Bible, God's word. And he says there, we have greater confidence in the message of the prophets. Pay close attention. Take a note, circle that word. Pay close attention, that phrase, to what they wrote. For their words are like a light shining in a dark place. I don't know how much how darker our culture is going to get I'm not a soothsayer but it does say when things get dark you need to go to the light and the light is here not anywhere else it says pay close attention let me just ask you very honestly somebody who loves you as your friend. What do you pay the most attention to these days? The radio? Talk radio? …
… reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation among whom you appear as lights in the world holding fast the word of life. I like 2 Peter 1 19. Jot that down. Peter said, so we have the prophetic word, that's referring to the word of God, made more sure to which you do well to pay attention as a lamp shining in a dark place until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. Maybe you've used a nightlight before. You know what a nightlight does. Glows in the middle of the night. If you're a child, it can give you comfort if you're afraid of the dark. As an adult, nightlights are helpful. If you're getting up in the middle of the night, they go to the bathroom or to the kitchen, whichever one it is. It's good to have a light and the darkness to give you direction. Now, the only time a nightlight is absolutely of no use is in the daylight. …
… And so we have, I love this, the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Now, every message in this series, if you've been paying attention, has come from the epistles of 1 or 2 Peter. And so we end here as Peter, looking back, is talking about one of certainly the highest moments of his entire life, when Jesus took him, as well as James and John, on top of a mountain. And there, you could say, showed his true colors, right? In the incarnation, we find God wrapping himself in flesh. But for just a moment, just a sneak peek on this mountain, Jesus showed what truly he was made of. Of course, if you have another finger stuck in Mark, like I told you, Mark chapter nine, we'll jump over there for a moment because the moment he's talking about is actually covered from his perspective because Mark wrote Peter's account, okay? …
… apart. Are you hearing me? It's amazing. Are you guys okay? 2 Peter chapter 1, verse 9. 2 Peter chapter 1, sorry, verse 19. 2 Peter 1, verse 19. This is Peter speaking, and it's so powerful. And so he says, we have the prophetic word confirmed. So how do you have a prophetic word confirmed? Which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place. In fact, you can use it like a flashlight. Until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this verse that no prophecy of scripture is of any private interpretation. In other words, you can't make that cult up on your own. You can't do that. I mean, you're going to do it, but you're just, you're actually sinning against scripture because you cannot make stuff up and say, well, this Bible says this. No, it doesn't. The Bible says you cannot make up private interpretations of things. In other words, let the Bible comment on the Bible. For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. …
… We have also the prophetic word strongly confirmed and you will do well to pay attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you know this. Peter's assuming that these people know the Bible. You know this. No prophecy of scripture comes from the prophet's own interpretation because no prophecy ever came about by the will of man. Instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. Peter assumes that these people know their Bibles. And I was raised on Reading Rainbow. Anyone else in this room watch Reading Rainbow? LeVar Burton, a show all about inspiring kids to read. He's better known as chief engineer, Geordi LaForge to me. But at the end of every episode, he would showcase a book. Here's a book. He'll tell you all about the book. He'll tell you who wrote it. Here's what's cool about this book. But then he'd say, but don't take my word for it. …
we ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain we also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable and you will do well to pay attention to it as to a light shining in a dark place until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts above all you must understand that no prophecy of scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. Peter's saying, we were there. We were eyewitnesses. And what I love about this is, he says, we were eyewitnesses. Peter, James, and John up on the mountain. Not just James up on the mountain, not just Peter up on the mountain, not Peter coming back saying, guys, you're not going to believe what I saw today. No, there's a triad of corroboration and accountability to the veracity of this story. James could have said, no, that's not how it went. But we were there. We were eyewitnesses. We heard it with our own ears. You say, well, why is that so unique? Well, let's take another one of the holy books that many, many people look to as their guide on earth. It came about because the prophet Muhammad had received personal and private revelations from God over a 23-year period of time, and he taught what was revealed privately to him from God. He never wrote …
