After all, it is only right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,For it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you,Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;if so be that it is a righteous thing with God to recompense affliction to them that afflict you,

this letter we believe second thessalonians was penned within months of the first letter going out by paul to the thessalonians paul wrote the first one from corinth paul wrote the second one from corinth no more than a year, let's say, within a few months to a year. So it has been estimated that Paul wrote 1 Thessalonians in the spring of A.D. 50 and that he probably wrote 2 Thessalonians around February, March of A.D. 50. So one time, one early in the year and one later in that same year, but around 5051 A.D. something has happened between first and second Thessalonians and we can only discern what that is by taking a look at the entire book some of the issues that Paul brings up give us some of the background necessary for why Paul would write a second letter to this church and I'll get into that I'll show you what we think those things are but let me just jog your memory a little bit because you may recall that Paul never planned to go to this part of the world. …
… Paul also wrote, he wrote a lot, 2 Thessalonians. In 2 Thessalonians chapter 1, verse 6, it says, God considers it just. He thinks that God, remember him dwelling in unapproachable light, him, the name, the one up there. God considers it fair or just to repay with affliction those who afflict you and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints and to be marveled at among all who have believed because our testimony to you was believed. Paul says, I've got this unceasing anguish in my heart because I have people. He goes, man, it's like this. …
you know that phrase in verse 6 and i and i know that's an intense passage i mean second thessalonians 1 it flies in the face of all the modern teaching of well you know god wouldn't do this god god wouldn't you know inflict vengeance on people just for not believing in him and there are so many opinions out there but that's why i love that phrase in verse 6 god considers it just A first. think about that phrase, God considers it just. So it doesn't matter what you think is fair. See, this is the definition of fairness, is whatever God thinks and considers as fair. And it says right there, God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you. I have such a different view of justice than God I have such a different opinion a different feeling towards sin than he does and this whole picture of him being revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, they will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction. …
