… The Bible, listen, the Bible teaches us that God disciplines his church even. Look at 2 Timothy chapter 3, verse 16 and 17. All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That is in how to do the right thing. That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Wow. The word of God. The Bible. remarkable instruction. God wants to use words to us. He says to Israel, listen to me and obey me. Why will you be like the stubborn donkey? He didn't, the old King James doesn't use the word donkey. I don't, it uses that other word. Why will you be like that when I want to lead you with my right hand? This is fun. God's right hand of power and strength. Did you know that when God says, I will deliver you with my righteous right hand. In the Middle Eastern culture, it's shaking with your right hand. …
… To do that, you have to fill your life with the word of Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 3.17 says, Through the word we're put together and shaped for the tasks that God asked for us. I remember in the Old Testament, the Bible says that Job treasured God's word more than his daily bread. That's how I want you to treat God's word. That's how you grow in discipleship. Get into his word every day. Study it, memorize it, meditate on it, apply it, never take it for granted. God's word is as essential to your soul as food is to your body. So get into the word.

… salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. And this is the word of the Lord. Just checking for Episcopalians in the group. That's all right. All right. A brief prayer. Father, what we know not, teach us. What we have not, give us. What we are not, make us. And we ask it in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, I chose the second letter of Timothy somewhat arbitrarily. The more I read it, the more I said to myself, there is some sense in which 2 Timothy provides us with a mentoring manual. Admittedly, Timothy's circumstances is different from many other people, and Paul is unique. But to the extent that it is an older man counseling a younger man, as this older man has now reached the end of his journey. In chapter 4, he says, the time has come for my departure. I'm already being poured out like a drink offering. So he is absolutely committed to making sure that his young mentee, Timothy, is going to hold the line. …
… for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, or the woman of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Here's the deal. The word of God equips me, spirit, soul, and body, intellectually, emotionally, mentally, which is different than intellectually. It's the state of my mind, physically, in the natural, thoroughly equipped for every good work. In other words, any challenge that comes before me, I am ready to represent the king with adequate service to invest into that situation so that Jesus is well represented. It's the word of God. The word of God working in and through my life equips me to be adequate and successful in any opportunity I have to represent the king in a given situation. I love the Bible. I love my Bible. I love stuff like that. Even he, whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away. That's not fair. Don't talk to me about that. Our job is to read what he says and say amen. …
… All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training, and righteousness that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. So I'm going to go with the Apostle Paul's inspired commentary. And though it's true, some passages of Scripture are going to be high mountain peaks, and this is not one of them, yet God has something for us to inspire us and to teach us. I'm going to read through the passage, stopping along the way to explain what we have here, and then we will zero in on a few points. So follow along beginning at verse 1. Now, these were the people of the province who came up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had carried captive to Babylonia. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town. They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Saraiah, Realiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mizpar, Bigvi, Rehum, and Baanan. So what we have here are the people returning from Judah, that is the southern kingdom, Judah and Benjamin. The northern tribes had been carried off to Assyria 150 years earlier, and they're going back to the capital of Jerusalem. You see some names in verse two may be familiar to you zerubbabel and then jeshua who is likely the same person here as joshua the high priest the story about him in the book of zachariah chapter 3. …
… All Scripture is inspired by God, all Scripture is inspired by God, and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be perfect or adequate, equipped for every good work. Do you understand the power of Scripture in those two verses? You want to be equipped for every good work? You want to be mature? Then you need to be taught, reproved, corrected, and trained in righteousness. and the Scripture does that. The Scripture does that. I would think we wouldn't want anything less that we might be useful for every good work and enjoy a special eternal reward. Let's pray together. Whenever we handle the Word, Father, we understand that we have an obligation to proclaim its truths faithfully, accurately, correctly, and we have a responsibility to obey them joyfully and with gratitude. And it comes down to this in our Christian lives. What does the Word of God mean to you? That will determine your spiritual maturity. It will determine how useful you are for every good work. …
… And then all Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. Timothy, when you heard the sacred writings, the Scripture, and when you believed the Scripture, you received the wisdom of salvation, and you entered into the capability to understand the Word of God. The natural man cannot, but you can because you have the mind of Christ and the indwelling Holy Spirit. In fact, John, in 1 John 2, verse 20 says, you have an anointing from the Holy Spirit, and you all know. The reason you know what is true and what is wisdom is because you not only have the Word of God, you not only have a new creation that can apprehend the Word of God, but you You have a resident truth teacher in the Holy Spirit. First John 2, 27 adds this, "'As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you,' the Holy Spirit. …
