… but keep on following him the next verse Colossians 2 7 says keep your roots deep in him build your lives on him and become stronger in your faith now how in the world do you do that well let me give you some practical suggestions first if you haven't already done so you need to publicly identify yourself as a Christian. You need to come out of the closet. And the way you do that is by being baptized. Any week, go get baptized and say, I am saying Jesus Christ is going to be the center of my life and Jesus Christ is going to be the center of our marriage. I love it when I baptize husbands and wives together when they're both saying we're committing our lives and our marriage to Christ. That's a wonderful, wonderful symbol. Second thing, get in a small group of some other couples who can help you grow. I know couples who take this sermon outline every week and Sunday afternoon go home and have a barbecue and their family discusses it every week. …

How to Walk in the Will of God
Levi Lusko, 2026-09-14 · Scripture reading

… As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Now these two verses, what we have here is God's will for every single Christian. There are ways in which God's will for your life is not God's will for my life, right? We can't push upon each other our callings. But what Paul gives us here is the will of God for every single believer. And that's what he desperately wanted the church at Colossae to understand so that they could participate in, so that they could walk in. We know that because if you flip just one chapter to your left in chapter one, we get Paul's prayers, which is kind of epic to get a glimpse into what Paul prays for people he cares about. And in verse nine, he prays this. For this reason, we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with what? The knowledge of his will. You can't do it if you don't know. We want you to understand his will, not just in some wisdom, but in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. Now, backing up context-wise, what he says when he says, since the day we heard it, since the day we heard it, he's referring to the fact that he had never been to Colossae. He did not plant the church at Colossae. Many people, …

Bright Lights and Night Lights – Part 1
Robert Jeffress, 2026-09-14

… God's plan for every Christian is that he grows in his faith. Hold your place here and turn back to Colossians chapter 2, verses 6 and 7. Colossians 2, verses 6 and 7. These verses are really the theme of the book of Colossians. Paul says, verse 6, Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus, so walk in him. Have you ever heard people say, Well, I want to become a Christian so that I can go to heaven when I die. But that's the only part of Christianity I'm interested in. I want to get my free ticket to heaven by trusting in Christ. Then I want to live however I want to live. The Bible knows nothing of that kind of so-called salvation. The Bible says the reason you receive Christ Jesus, verse 6, is so that you can walk in him. The word walk refers to the way you conduct your everyday life. We are to receive Christ so that we can pattern our lives after him. …

Rev. Kea Westbrook, 2026-08-26

… Sunday the title of the sermon was You're the Birthday. And the scripture was Colossians chapter 2, verses 6 and 7. Colossians chapter 2, verses 6 and 7. And so I'll read that for you hearing now. Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus, the Lord, so walk in him rooted and built up in him and established in the faith. Just as you were taught abounding in thanksgiving. That's the scripture. Very simple text. But sometimes simplicity, we make it complex. And so but we'll see if we can break it down today. So a little bit of review. I want to take another look at really what's happening in the text. talk to you a little bit about what's happening in the text and then we'll jump in. So what's happening here is we have in Colossus, it was a small commercial city. And as a small commercial city, there was a lot going on, but there was a lot of different faiths, different religions that were happening. And so they were building a Christianity, a community of Christianity, but they were also being challenged by all of the different faiths and the communities, unlike the world. We go to work and there's different people that believe in different things. And so, um, Paul wanted to combat that. A lot of the teachings in the city were against the teachings of Jesus. And so Paul wanted to combat what was being spread so that the believers could stay strong. And what would happen is a lot of times they were also practicing Gnosticism …

… being rooted in Christ and culture. Identity being rooted in Christ and culture. So today we'll look at Colossians chapter 2, verse 6 and 7. Colossians chapter 2, verses 6 and 7. I'm reading from the ESV translation. Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. That's it. You may be seated. We would consider a thought for just a moment. You the birthday. You're the birthday. Teachers, don't be mad at me. It's the culture. It's the culture. You the birthday. Lord, oh Lord, help me make that plain. In Jesus' name, have your way and be glorified. In Jesus' name, amen. I do love to drive when I'm going on trips. I like to drive because it helps me think. It helps me process. But I don't like being caught in traffic. I don't like the long drive home. That is not about peace and serenity and hearing from God. …

… Because you're not gonna feel better from complaining. Colossians 2.7 says this. Let your lives overflow, there's that word, with thanksgiving for all God has done. I suggest that you start your day with gratitude for God, what God has done for you, and for others. And just go through that. In fact, did you know, I read a study recently that if in the morning you get up and you send, the first thing you do is you send an email of gratitude to somebody you love or somebody who's helped you, it actually lowers your stress for the rest of the day because of the chemicals that are released in your mind. It'll actually lower your stress if you'll start your day with good news, not bad news. And if you actually start with gratitude, send an email a day. It'll help you be healthier. 1 Thessalonians 5.18, no matter what happens, always be thankful for this is God's will for you. who belong to Christ Jesus. You know, I have people come to me all the time and say, you know, Pastor Rick, I just want to know God's will. …

Sinclair Ferguson: Progressive Holiness
Sinclair Ferguson, 2025-12-03

… to make progress in sanctification. And the words I want to read from Colossians two, verses 6 and 7 are these. Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus, the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. We might say there are three stages to our sanctification. There is the decisive initial stage that we were thinking about before lunchtime. There is the final climactic stage when regeneration, justification, adoption, sanctification all come to their final consummation in our glorification. When the sanctification that began in our regeneration is consummated, when God's purpose for us, that we should be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers, the day for which the apostles longed when we see the Lord Jesus face to face and are finally made like him, that day will be the consummation of sanctification. And what we are thinking about is the space in between, the progress in between, between the D-Day of our conversion and the V-Day of our final glorification. …
