… mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison, that I may make it clear which is how I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech Always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. So that last phrase, so you may know how you ought to answer each person. Like the whole picture here is followers of Jesus living in their culture, their community, and speaking with God's grace to pressing issues in that culture and community. So we're going to do this today. I want to show you specifically how the gospel speaks to, relates to sexuality. Now, for those of you who might not be familiar with the term gospel, it basically means good news, specifically the good news of God's love for you and Jesus, and me and Jesus. Job 3-7

… and I find it interesting, can flavorless food be eaten without salt? Let me remind you of a text, I marked it in Colossians chapter 4, verse 6, let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you might know how to answer every man. There's no grace in the words of Eliphaz. It's saltless food. It's worthless. Oh, that I might have my request, verse 8 of chapter 6, that God would grant me the thing I long for, that it would please God to crush me, just finish me off, that he would cut loose his hand and cut me off. Then I would still have comfort, though in anguish I would exult. Let him not spare, for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One. What strength do I have that I should hope? And what is my end that I should prolong my life? In other words, I have no hope. What reason do I have to continue living? Is my strength the strength of stones or is my flesh bronze? The Balanced Preparation

… Now, this prudence is not only to be applied with what we do, but also what we say. Colossians chapter 4, verse 5 through 6. Colossians 4 says, Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. You see that? Walk in wisdom, notice, towards those who are on the outside. That we should be shrewd, wise with what God's given us, and discerning with what we say. I love that idea, knowing how you ought to answer each one. It's not two-faced, it's wise. Paul said that he would become all things to all men, never compromising the truth, but adapting it to the hearer. If Jesus has given us the command to be wise as serpents, then he will give us that supply of wisdom we need to leverage the things of the world for the kingdom of God. See, because there were wolves, they needed to be wise. …

… AND WE WHO ARE CHRISTIANS, WE'RE TO BE DIFFERENT. THAT'S THE REASON THE BIBLE SAYS IN COLOSSIANS CHAPTER FOUR AND VERSE SIX, LET YOUR SPEECH ALWAYS BE SEASONED WITH SALT. YOU KNOW THERE OUGHT TO BE SOMETHING ABOUT EVERY CHRISTIAN THAT'S ABSOLUTELY EXCITING. DO YOU KNOW WHY I THINK WE HAVE SO MANY BORING SERMONS? BECAUSE PREACHERS ARE BORED. WHY WE HAVE SO MANY BORING SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSONS? BECAUSE THE TEACHER IS BORED. PREACHER WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND HE SAID, DOCTOR, YOU'VE GOT TO GIVE ME SOMETHING, HELP ME BECAUSE OF MY SNORING. THE DOCTOR SAYS, IS IT KEEPING YOUR WIFE AWAKE? HE SAID, IT'S KEEPING THE WHOLE CONGREGATION AWAKE. Let your speech be seasoned with salt. There ought to be a zest about us. There ought to be a life about us. There ought to be a flavor about the children of God. Salt seasons. But I'll tell you what else salt does. My dear friend, salt preserves. When Jesus talked about being the salt of the earth, in that crowd there were fishermen. …
