… let me remind you that it is there that we have this vision that Daniel receives of one like a son of man coming to the ancient of days, and to him is given dominion and glory and a kingdom that all peoples, nations, languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. And it's almost as if that little section of the middle of seven can serve adequately as the fulcrum for our studies in Daniel, inasmuch as the first half of the book leading up to that sits on the one side, balances on one side, and then the unfolding story of conflict and battle and war that we have been looking at for the last while is on the other side of that fulcrum. And it is the reality of that vision concerning the Lord Jesus Christ himself that enables us not to get bogged down and not to get lost in our studies throughout the book. Because between chapter 7 and chapter 12, we are dealing with, we have been dealing with these conflicts which are cosmic inasmuch as they take place in the heavenly realms, but they are also temporal insofar as they have been worked out on the earthly plane. And the whole historical framework takes us from the time of Daniel and all the way through to the return of the Lord Jesus Christ himself. And it is only when the people of God, as you can see here in verse 7, when the conflicts …
… We are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken. Daniel 7, verse 14 says that God's dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away. And his kingdom is one which will not be destroyed. So the Bible makes it abundantly clear here that New Jerusalem will never crumble. It will never be overthrown or fall into disorder. The Bible says that it cannot be shaken. Hallelujah for that. A ninth wonderful truth about our eternal home is this. We will live there forever with all of the redeemed. We will live there forever with all of the redeemed. In the book of Revelation, John describes a future scene in heaven. And he says, going to meet people from all over the world, from every century of human history who were recipients of God's grace. How much fun will that be hearing their stories? This will include sitting down and feasting with people like Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. Jesus said, I tell you, in Matthew 8, verse 11, I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. …
… And Daniel says this, he was given authority, glory and sovereign power. All nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. When Jesus referred to the Son of Man coming on the clouds of glory, they knew that passage, and they ripped their clothes, and they said, he's a heretic. He's a blasphemer. He is blaspheming, claiming to be the Son of God, claiming to be the Messiah. Do we need to hear anything more? And then this is what they did. They spit in his face, chapter 26, verse 66. They spit in his face and struck him with their fists and others slapped him saying, prophesy, which one of us is, what's our name? Which one of us has slapped you? and then they decided he had to die. He had to die. So the next morning, they took him to Pontius Pilate, and Pontius says, are you leading a rebellion? …
… He has authority over all nations. Daniel chapter 7, verse 13 and 14. You might write that down and go look at it because it's a prophecy that gives us a picture of Jesus. It talks about the Son of Man who has sovereign dominion, power and authority over every nation and every people and his dominion will last forever. That's what it means for him to have authority. Not just power, but authority is the right to use that power. If you have a lot of power and you have a lot of strength, but you don't have a right to use it, I have an avenue where you can use it, then it doesn't matter how much power or strength you have. He has authority. He has all the power and he has all the dominion, the right, the rule to use it. He has authority over all of these things. I want you to think about how that changes everything. The fact that he has authority over our nation changes the way we watch CNN or Fox News, the way we look at what's going on around us in the world, to know that Jesus Christ has all things under his feet, that he is in control in all of these areas, all authority. It's exactly at Psalm 148 gives us a picture of great sea creatures, all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds, they do his bidding. Mountains, hills, fruit trees, cedars, wild animal, small cattle, flying birds, kings of the earth and all nations, princes, all the rulers on the earth, …
… He was given authority and glory and sovereign power. All nations and people of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away. And his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. And so when Jesus referred to himself as son of man, And he's attaching himself to Daniel's prophecy. And he's saying, Daniel said a Messiah is coming, a ruler, a sovereign king, one with eternal dominion is coming. And guess what? You're looking at him, son of man. I don't want to say all that out loud right now. I'm not going to unpack everything about what I'm doing and who I am right in this moment. That will come over time. And you will hear me say a lot of different things about me. But right now, I'm just sending a little telegraph out. Son of man, son of man. You've been looking for the Son of Man, you're looking at the Son of Man. There was a prophecy that the Son of Man would come, and I'm telling you, the Son of Man has come. …
… of man, that's Christ, was coming, and He came up to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him, and to Him was given dominion, glory, and the kingdom." This is when the title deed to the universe transfers from Satan and Antichrist to Messiah Christ. "'To Him was given dominion, glory, and the kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and men of every language might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away, and His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed." So the Antichrist has a moment of peace. It's a fragile peace, and he has to fight war after war after war to hold on to his power. Let's go back to Revelation 6. He fights against the prince of princes, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, Christ. He loses that battle, and you'll see that in the nineteenth chapter of Revelation. The second seal, and we'll look at these rather briefly. The second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, Come. …
… son of man. This language, son of man, comes from Daniel chapter 7, verses 13 and 14, where the prophet says concerning the coming Messiah, "'One like a son of man was given dominion, glory, a kingdom that all people and nations and men of every language might serve Him, and this is an everlasting kingdom that will never be destroyed." So the Son of Man was a title for a Messiah. This then is Christ, and John is seeing Christ in the middle of the churches. He's identified with His church. So this is the place I want to start. I'll give you a few points to unfold this scene. One, he sees the ministry of Christ to his church from within his church. He inhabits his church. He inhabits his church. This is a marvelous reality. He is not just in heaven sending down orders. He is in his church. He lives in his church. Christ lives in me, says the apostle, the hope of glory. I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me. …
… And he came up to the Ancient of Days, meaning God, and was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion, glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, men of every language might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away, and His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed." Christ will establish His kingdom. He'll establish it over the entire world, over the entire created universe, and then forever in the new heavens and the new earth. So we sow and sleep humbly, obediently, diligently, and confidently. Father, thank You for Your Word to us, for its clarity, its power. I pray that it would go forth even this day and bring life to dead sinners. That's our desire. Fulfill Your will, we pray, in the Savior's name.
