… about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught with regard to your former way of life, your Oakland A's way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires, and to be made new in the attitude of your minds. And that's what we're doing right now. We're renewing our minds today to what is true. And when you do that, the fruit of that is to put on the new self, the brave self. created to be like God in righteousness and holiness, in true righteousness and holiness. And that's the picture today. So we're coming to our new label, but the idea is that this old me, anybody know the old you? Show of hands, anybody know the old you? that, you know, not great necessarily? Anybody alive back in this era? wore the wrong outfit today. I got a hoodie thing now. I got to figure that out. You know, and you're like, hey man, I love God. You're like, well, you look weird. …
… in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught with regard to your former way of life, that's the old self, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires, and to be made new in the attitude of your minds. This is that spirit of wisdom in Revelation. And to put on the new self, created, hello, to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. So what he's helping the Ephesians understand is that there is a new way to live, but the new way to live is by having a change of your attitude, of your thinking, of putting off the old me and putting on what happened when I was joined with Jesus Christ. To take off the old self and put on the new self. And then he goes on to tell us all these things that we should do and the way that should affect the way that we live. I didn't put Ephesians 1 on the iPad, but listen to Loy. He starts this letter. He's writing to these believers and he wants them to know the way they should live. …
… What Paul says in Ephesians, you were taught with regard to your former way of life to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires. To be made new in the attitude of your minds and to put on the new self created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. To be saved is to get a new wardrobe. You got to dress different, live different. You got a new identity, you're a new person. and then in verse 45 is our last little bit therefore many of the jews who had come to visit mary and had seen what jesus did believed in him how could you not but some of them went to the pharisees and told them what jesus had done then the chief priest and the pharisees called a meeting of the sanhedrin what are we accomplishing they asked here's this man performing many signs if we let him keep on like this. Everyone will believe in him. And then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation. Then one of them named Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year, spoke up, you know nothing at all. You do not realize that it would be better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish. He's going, I got an idea we could kill him. He did this. He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year, he prophesied …
… Then he goes on in verse 22 to say, "'That was your former manner of life, but you laid aside that old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lust of deceit, and And you have been renewed in the spirit of your mind, verse 24, and put on the new self. So we are new creatures in Christ, and we no longer walk the way we used to walk. How do we walk? Chapter 5, verse 1, as imitators of God, as His beloved children. He is our Father. We are in His family. We show evidence of that by our life. In verse 2, he says, walk in love as Christ loved you and gave Himself up for you. In verse 8, he says, walk as children of light. What does that mean? Verse 9, goodness, righteousness, and truth. In verse 15, walk as wise. So walk is simply a picture of daily Christian living. And we have gone through all these aspects of it in the months past, and it's been an incredibly blessed time together. …
… If indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him just as truth is in Jesus, that in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth, each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Be angry, and yet do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger. And do not give the devil an opportunity. He who steals must steal no longer, but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with the one who has need. Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. …

… It's the same text that we looked at last week. But we were unable to finish it, so we'll do that this morning, Ephesians 4, verses 17 to 24. And I'm going to read it, and then we're going to look again at these wonderful words of divine revelation. So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer, just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart. And they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him just as truth is in Jesus. That in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth." Now we here have a comparison between the people before salvation and the same people afterward. …
