I am CHOSEN for a Purpose - Louie Giglio
Louie Giglio, 2026-09-28

… of your minds. And that's what we're doing right now. We're renewing our minds today to what is true. And when you do that, the fruit of that is to put on the new self, the brave self. created to be like God in righteousness and holiness, in true righteousness and holiness. And that's the picture today. So we're coming to our new label, but the idea is that this old me, anybody know the old you? Show of hands, anybody know the old you? that, you know, not great necessarily? Anybody alive back in this era? wore the wrong outfit today. I got a hoodie thing now. I got to figure that out. You know, and you're like, hey man, I love God. You're like, well, you look weird. We having a good time? Doesn't look like it. Why? Because I'm trying to wear the old me around. and this is no longer who I am and what Paul is saying is I want you to put off the old self. …

… to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires, and to be made new in the attitude of your minds. This is that spirit of wisdom in Revelation. And to put on the new self, created, hello, to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. So what he's helping the Ephesians understand is that there is a new way to live, but the new way to live is by having a change of your attitude, of your thinking, of putting off the old me and putting on what happened when I was joined with Jesus Christ. To take off the old self and put on the new self. And then he goes on to tell us all these things that we should do and the way that should affect the way that we live. I didn't put Ephesians 1 on the iPad, but listen to Loy. He starts this letter. He's writing to these believers and he wants them to know the way they should live. …

… To be made new in the attitude of your minds and to put on the new self created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. To be saved is to get a new wardrobe. You got to dress different, live different. You got a new identity, you're a new person. and then in verse 45 is our last little bit therefore many of the jews who had come to visit mary and had seen what jesus did believed in him how could you not but some of them went to the pharisees and told them what jesus had done then the chief priest and the pharisees called a meeting of the sanhedrin what are we accomplishing they asked here's this man performing many signs if we let him keep on like this. Everyone will believe in him. And then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation. Then one of them named Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year, spoke up, you know nothing at all. You do not realize that it would be better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish. He's going, I got an idea we could kill him. He did this. He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation. …

The Walk of the True Christian, Part 4 (Ephesians 4:31-32)
John MacArthur, 2022-05-22 · Scripture reading

… corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth, each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Be angry, and yet do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger. And do not give the devil an opportunity. He who steals must steal no longer, but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with the one who has need. Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. …

… But you have laid aside the old self, and you have become renewed in the spirit of your mind and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth." That's exactly what 2.10 says. God has ordained that we walk in good works. Here God has created us in righteousness and holiness of the truth. We are dramatically different. When Paul wrote Ephesians, he also at the same time wrote Colossians. Turn over to Colossians chapter 3, just a few more thoughts. Chapter 3, verse 1, if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on the earth. This is exactly what Peter says. Add to your faith moral excellence, which is virtue, and all those other things that we've read. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. …

… being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind and put on the new self which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. What marks a person who is unconverted is unrighteousness, unholiness, and deception. The transformation produces one who has been created in righteousness and holiness and truth. So by the time you get to chapter 4, verse 24, that last verse that I read, you have the theology of transformation. You have the theology of salvation. We have the theology of conversion. And then in verse 25 you see, therefore. And now we start in the rest of the epistle, which is the implications of that saving truth. Because you have been transformed, here is how you are to live. And so I want to read verses 25 to 27. This is where Paul begins the practical part of this epistle. Notice the two sins that he starts with. …

Totally Transformed (Ephesians 4:17-24)
John MacArthur, 2022-03-13

… It's the same text that we looked at last week. But we were unable to finish it, so we'll do that this morning, Ephesians 4, verses 17 to 24. And I'm going to read it, and then we're going to look again at these wonderful words of divine revelation. So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer, just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart. And they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him just as truth is in Jesus. That in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth." Now we here have a comparison between the people before salvation and the same people afterward. …
