I love and I want to center in on verse 16. Above all, above all, taking the shield of faith, the truth is it is essential for us to have faith in God. Faith is the currency that heaven trades in. If you get anything from God, you give God faith, and He, in return to your faith, saves you. And every other promise in the Scripture is unattainable without faith. …

The Belt of Truth
David Platt, 2025-07-23

… It's the same exact word that Paul uses in Ephesians chapter six, verse 14. put on truth some people say you have to check your mind at the door to become a Christian to have faith and that is the farthest thing from the truth faith in Jesus revolves around and requires thinking all the time about what is true worldliness involves not thinking just go along with what the world says about money and sex and ambition and a million other things Christianity says, no, think about what's true. Do you see the spiritual battle that is taking place between your ears every day? Your mind is a battleground. And there are spiritual forces of evil who want to have their way in it, that want you to believe all kinds of lies about yourself, about your circumstances, about others, about the world, and ultimately about God himself. And if spiritual battle begins in your mind, then that means spiritual victory comes through believing and spreading what is true. …

… to stand your ground. After you have done everything to stand, stand firm. Stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Paul is painting this picture of a soldier getting ready for battle because it's one thing to recognize that there is an enemy. It's another thing to realize that you have to get ready to fight back against the enemy. I think that one of the ways that the enemy attacks us is by diverting our attention. You think your enemy is your boss or your spouse or maybe your mother-in-law, not me. Some of us wake up in the morning. We're ready for a fight with the wrong enemy. Paul says our struggle is not against people. It's not against flesh and blood. It is against spiritual forces in a heavenly realm. And you've got to get ready. And here's how you do it. He says, you put on your armor. Now, when we get dressed for the day, at least when I get dressed for the day, the last thing I do is put my shoes on. But if you were putting on armor, like, you know, you're going to have a breastplate and a shield and a sword. Your hands are going to be tied up. So you got to put your shoes on first, right? And Paul says that our feet are fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Look at your neighbor and say, I'm ready. …

Above all, somebody say above all. Taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. I want to talk about the shield of faith. This is part five, the shield of faith. Say that with me. The shield of faith. All right, that's what I want to talk about today. Today's message is narrative. This is a narrative message. He says because we're going to receive fiery darts from the wicked one. …

Spiritual Warfare - Part 2: The Belt of Truth
John K. Jenkins Sr., 2025-03-10 · Scripture reading

… to have the sword and to have all of the breastplate of righteousness and all of some of these other armor pieces needs the belt to be attached to and so I want to talk to you today about what this belt means. As a matter of fact it's called the belt of truth. Gird your loins he says with truth. And what we have a problem with today is that people are not believing truth. People are deceived by lies. We live in a culture where lies are the order of the day. It's what people embrace. People are governing their lives. They are governing their lives by lies. They are doing and believing and embracing lies. Look at your neighbor and say, stop believing a lie. Yeah, and the lie that you believe is often determined by what news channel you watch. Yeah, which news channel you watch would determine what you believe, how you vote, how you govern your lives, what decisions you make. and my assignment today, my job, my responsibility is to challenge you, to tell you today that the reality is God wants us to embrace truth. …

John K. Jenkins Sr., 2025-03-10 · Scripture reading

… having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness. Today's part three, and I want to talk about the breastplate of righteousness. I want to talk about putting on the breastplate of righteousness. We already talked about the principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this age, spiritual hosts of wickedness. We've talked about standing and withstanding. We've talked about the belt of truth. Last time we discussed and dialogued about the lies that the devil wants you to believe and embrace. And in fact, God wants us to hold on to truth. I gave you basically the seven truths that God wants us to believe. Today, I want to talk about the breastplate of righteousness. What does that mean? I'm glad you asked the question. A breastplate. It is the part of the armor that covers the most vital organs of a soldier. It covers his heart, his lungs, his stomach, his kidneys, his liver. All of those vital organs. And when Paul writes to the church in Ephesus, as a matter of fact, Paul's writing to them from jail. …

How to Resist the Devil, Part 2 (Ephesians 6:14-17)
John MacArthur, 2022-12-11 · Scripture reading

… day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm, therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. In addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one, and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God." This is really Paul's wrap-up on this amazing letter to the Ephesians. After giving us so much information in the opening three chapters about salvation and so much already in chapters 4, 5, and 6 about sanctification, he comes to his final emphasis as he notes in verse 10 saying, finally, to draw our attention to the fact that there is a war and we are in that war by virtue of being a part of the kingdom of light. Because we belong to the Lord, we are at war with the devil and his schemes. …
