Everyday Choices Keeping You Stuck
Craig Groeschel, 2025-07-13

… anything happens, know that so that you may live and prosper. Walk in all obedience so that God will bless you. Let's look at the next verse, Exodus 19.5. Now, if you obey me partially, no, I'm giving you a little hint there. God says, if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, someone say it with me, next word, then you will be my treasured possession. Let's look at one more, Job 36 that says, if they listen and obey God, what's gonna happen? They will be blessed. If you look at these three verses, there are two things that they all have in common. Do any of you see them? I'll answer the question and show you what they have in common. Two things. First of all, God is asking for our full obedience. If you'll do all, if you'll obey me completely, God is asking for our full obedience. And the second thing is they're actually conditioned. Some of God's blessings are conditional. God is asking for all of our obedience, and those verses show us that some of his blessings are actually tied to obedience. …

Receiving the Fullness (Part 3)
Tim Keller, 1992-09-20

… claim when he says, you're my treasured possession. You know, it happens a number of places in Deuteronomy 32.9, it says the Lord's portion is his people. Or in Exodus 19.5, God says, if you keep my covenant out of all the nations, you will be my treasured possession, although the whole earth is mine. Now, hey, long before anybody talked about self-esteem, long before anybody talked about that. This was part of the Christian faith. What do people tell you when you feel bad about yourself, when you feel depressed, when you feel worthless? What's the basic advice? Set some goals and reach them. Lose some weight. Spend some time with some people who appreciate you. Think about your talents. Do what you really enjoy doing. what's that compared to this? Unless you get this, unless you get this down, you will spend all of your life looking for strokes. You will spend all of your life looking for someone who will look at you and say, you are my special treasure. …

And again, to believers Christ is a precious stone: “Unto you therefore which believe, he is precious. ” But to unbelievers he is a stone that is disallowed, and rejected, and set at nought. They set light by him, as by the stones of the street; they make no account of him, they disallow him; when they come to build, they cast this stone away as being of no use, not fit for a foundation, not fit for a place in their building. In the eighth verse the apostle tells the Christians to whom he writes, that those unbelievers who thus reject Christ, and to whom he is a stone of stumbling, and rock of offence, were appointed to this. “And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient, whereunto also they were appointed. ” It was appointed that they should stumble at the word that Christ should be an occasion not of their salvation, but of their deeper damnation. And then in our text, he puts the Christians in mind how far otherwise God had dealt with them, than with those reprobates. They were a chosen generation. God had rejected the others in his eternal counsels; but themselves he had chosen from eternity. They were a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people. As God distinguished the people of Israel of old from all other nations, so he distinguishes true Christians. It is probable, the apostle had in his mind some expressions that are used in the Old Testament, concerning the people of Israel. Christians are said here to be a chosen generation, according to what was said of Israel of old. Deut. x. 15. “Only the Lord thy God had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.” Christians are here said to be a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, agreeable to what was said of old of Israel. Exod. xix. 5, 6. “Now, therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine. And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shall speak unto the children of Israel.” …
