… we have to minister to God. See, in Exodus 19, verse six, it says, you shall be a kingdom of priests, pointing to the future. Isaiah 61 says, you shall be a kingdom of priests. But when it comes to Peter, 1 Peter chapter two, verse nine, it says, you are a royal priesthood, a holy nation. It was like all the hundreds of years, there was a pointing of the finger to the future, to a moment when something would happen that would qualify a generation of people to actually minister to the Lord. It was different than anything they'd ever known before. The only thing remotely similar and profoundly similar was what David broke into in the tabernacle of David. Leave that for another time. but in this in this season I remember my dad and my mom and the group of people here it was about 1971 could have been late 70 and the yes to to give ourselves to worship I remember the opposition it's crazy now because there's such a strong culture in the church which I'm thankful for the problem there's not a problem with the worship culture but a side thing that happens sometimes as we end up worshiping worship instead of the one. So we're going to talk of that. So that's, it's just, we just do stupid things as we're learning. So I'm, I'm, I'm good with it. It's just part of the process. …

… of a New Testament reality, what is the same now as it was then? Because those elements exist, all right? Now, what I want to show you is Exodus 19, verse 6. Let's just read a passage here. And you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are words, the words you shall speak to the children of Israel. God is speaking out of Moses, and he's giving them instruction to give to the entire nation of Israel. Look at it again. You shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel. Notice that the Lord is calling the entire nation into priesthood ministry. All right? So let's back up in the story. In Genesis, we have Adam and Eve. We have their children, their descendants. They multiply, they multiply. Eventually, you come to the catastrophic moment at the Tower of Babel, and there's the dividing of people into languages and nations. God continuously gave himself to all the nations of the world and all the nations of the world continuously rejected him. So what did he do? He chose a man named Abram, changed his name to Abraham and raised up from his seed, the nation of Israel. So if you picture this, he extends himself to all the nations of the world, all the nations reject him. He takes Abram and out of him raises up a nation to display love upon, …

And again, to believers Christ is a precious stone: “Unto you therefore which believe, he is precious. ” But to unbelievers he is a stone that is disallowed, and rejected, and set at nought. They set light by him, as by the stones of the street; they make no account of him, they disallow him; when they come to build, they cast this stone away as being of no use, not fit for a foundation, not fit for a place in their building. In the eighth verse the apostle tells the Christians to whom he writes, that those unbelievers who thus reject Christ, and to whom he is a stone of stumbling, and rock of offence, were appointed to this. “And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient, whereunto also they were appointed. ” It was appointed that they should stumble at the word that Christ should be an occasion not of their salvation, but of their deeper damnation. And then in our text, he puts the Christians in mind how far otherwise God had dealt with them, than with those reprobates. They were a chosen generation. God had rejected the others in his eternal counsels; but themselves he had chosen from eternity. They were a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people. As God distinguished the people of Israel of old from all other nations, so he distinguishes true Christians. It is probable, the apostle had in his mind some expressions that are used in the Old Testament, concerning the people of Israel. Christians are said here to be a chosen generation, according to what was said of Israel of old. Deut. x. 15. “Only the Lord thy God had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.” Christians are here said to be a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, agreeable to what was said of old of Israel. Exod. xix. 5, 6. “Now, therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine. And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shall speak unto the children of Israel.” …
