This will be the token to you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be the token unto thee, that I have sent thee: when thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

… But Moses said to God, Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt? So he said, I will certainly be with you, and this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you. When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain. Then Moses said to God, Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they say to me, What is his name? What shall I say to them? And God said to Moses, I am who I am. And he said, thus you shall say to the children of Israel, I am has sent me to you. Moreover, God said to Moses, thus you shall say to the children of Israel, the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob has sent me to you. …

God answers, I will be with you. And this shall be the sign for you that it is I who sent you. When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this very mountain. Now at this point, Moses, and he's scared, gets a bit persnickety. He basically says to God, promises, promises. If I come to the Israelites and say to them, the God of your ancestors has sent me to you and they ask me, what is this God's name? What shall I say to them? Moses is not satisfied and he does not think the Hebrew people will be satisfied with a traditional formula that names God by listing a bunch of famous ancestors. Moses doesn't want to stand before his peers and check off deceased people's names. He wants something more personal, intimate, relational. Standing on holy ground, face to face with a talking burning bush, challenged to accept a mission impossible quest, Moses asks to see an ID. He wants God's real name. …

Call on the Name of the Lord #1 | "The Name"
Scott Black Johnston, 2026-02-22

God answers, I will be with you. And this shall be the sign for you that it is I who sent you. When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this very mount. Standing on holy ground, face to face with a talking burning bush, challenged to accept a mission and possible quest, Moses asks to see an ID. He wants God's real name. And that's when it happens. God relents. God speaks the Tetragrammaton. God whispers the name, a name that sounds like a human sigh, a name that echoes through every tuck and fold in our deep and beautiful tradition. Yahweh. …

The Stuttering Man of Destiny
Dr. Oswald Hoffmann, 2025-08-16

… God replied, I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you that I have sent you. When you have brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God upon this mountain. Moses was not easily convinced. If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, the God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me, what is his name? What shall I say to them? The great God of heaven and earth identified himself. I am Yahweh. I am that I am. Say this to the people of Israel. I am has sent me to you. The great God identified himself as the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob. He showed Moses that the people would listen, and that eventually the Egyptians would send them forth with everything they would ask, including all the Egyptian gold and silver jewelry. Still Moses held back. But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, The Lord did not appear to you. …

IF ITS GOD, iTS A YES | Pst Nate Dumlao
Pst Nate Dumlao, 2025-07-20 · Scripture reading

… and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? And God said, I will be with you and this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you. When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on the mountain. Verse 13, Moses said to God, suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, the God of your fathers has sent me to you. And they ask, what is his name? I think it's a reasonable question to ask. Then what shall I say to them? In verse 14, God said to Moses, I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites. I am has sent me to you. Amen. You're writing down, taking notes today. You can write down the title of today's talk. If it's God, it's a yes. Come on. If it's God, it's a yes. If I'm tired, it's still a yes. If I'm unsure, it's still a yes. If I don't know what's going to happen next, it's still a yes. …
