… He says, my presence will go with you and I will give you rest. So Moses said, if your presence doesn't go with us, do not send us up from here. Moses said, I'm not going anywhere without you, God. Without your presence in my life. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth? The Lord said to Moses, I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name. Then Moses said, look at this prayer. Now show me your glory. Do you see that? That's just one example. Moses saying over and over again, Lord, teach me your way so I can know you. God, show me your glory. What I want you to see is that God is pleased with prayers like that. God is honored when we come to him, however young or however old, and say, God, I want to know your glory today. …
Remember that this nation is your people. The Lord replied, my presence will go with you and I will give you rest. Then Moses said to him, if your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go before us? God wants to work through you and send you this year, but before you go on this mission, he must remind you of who he is and who you are, and he will stretch your capacity, but he will align your heart with his mission for your life. The Bible says in Proverbs that many are the plans of a man's heart, but it is the Lord who directs his steps. You and I, we got all the plans in the world. We got all the dreams and we got all the plans, but it is the Lord who directs our steps. And maybe some of the frustration that you felt this year, maybe some of the frustration that you've experienced has been a feeling of, I don't know what God is doing and I don't know what's happening right now. …
… I believe we're promised this in the New Testament through his spirit. and you see in verse 14 where God says my presence will go with you and I will give you rest and Moses said to him if your presence will not go with me do not bring us up from here for how shall it be known that I found favor in your sight I and your people is it not in your going with us so that we are distinct, I and your people, from every other people on the face of the earth. And the Lord said to Moses, this very thing you have spoken, I will do, for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name. You have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name. Is there anything you want more than that? than to know that God says you have found favor in my sight and I know you by name. this is holy. Nothing on the earth compares to these kinds of things. …
What's the response? Moses comes in in verse, look at 14 and 15. You have to read it carefully. The Lord replied, my presence will go with you and I will give you rest. But who's the you? Moses. The presence, the glory, the cloud, the meeting. You'll have it. and Moses comes back in verse 15 and says, great, great, great, great, presence goes with me, but if your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. You see, if you read you in verse 14 as a plural, then verse 15 makes no sense. If he says, my presence will go with you, and then Moses turns around and says, but if your presence won't go with us. See, if the you in verse 14 is plural, verse 15 makes no sense, but if the you in verse 14 is singular, then it makes perfect sense what Moses is saying. Here's what Moses is saying. You can keep your success. You can keep your power. You can keep your guidance. You can keep the whole thing. If we don't have access to your presence, if the whole people of God don't have friendship with you, if they don't all have access to your presence smack in the middle of their lives, if they're not all actually able to meet you, meeting, meeting the tent of meeting, we don't want anything else. And if you think that's just Moses' idea, you have to, again, the passage was so long as it was, I had to show you the whole thing. But if you go immediately …
