… Because there's power in united prayer. Galatians 6.2 says, share each other's burdens and in this way you will obey the law of Christ. Jesus said, I tell you, if any two of you will agree together on earth concerning anything you ask of your Father in heaven, he will do it. Pray together. Maybe you've come to church today with a burden. Maybe there is a concern to you. You have a loved one that is very sick. Or you yourself are very sick. Or you're facing a catastrophe, a crisis, a challenge. Or you're just feeling down. It's such a great thing to say to a couple Christian friends, can we just pray together? And haven't you noticed how things can just change when you just lift it up to the Lord? Instead of bearing that all by yourself, You share it with others and they help you sort of lift it up. It's like when you try to lift the couch all by yourself and how hard it is and then you get three other people to help. …
… Jesus. Why? Because love doesn't watch from the sidelines. Love carries the burden. Paul told the believers in Galatia to carry each other's burdens. And in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ. In other words, love doesn't just point people to Jesus, it carries them to him. And this is important because you know this, people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. And this matters now more than ever, because if you're honest, if we just look at your feed, if you look at the news, we're seeing a world that's consumed with knowing more while caring less. And as Christ followers, we are in this world, but we're not of this world. And just, let's just tell the truth. Like we have access to unlimited information on our devices. And you got to be careful to not just continue to fill your brain and lose your heart. the church is called to care. The church is called to love. And as Christ followers, we're called to love others. We're called to carry the burdens. The world, the world is all about, let me prove you wrong and show you how I'm right. Like you see that love proves that you care when you pick up the burden. And I'm so thankful for a church full of burden bearers. We got a church full of people that love to carry others. And I want to share with you three quick examples of some people that do this in our church. So, you know, the YouVersion Bible Lab. How many of you …
… everything changed. We experienced what God had intended for us all along with genuine in connection with other people and with him. We experienced what it meant to carry one another's burdens. And what Paul talks about in Galatians 6, 2, when he says this, he says to carry each other's burdens. And it is in this that you will fulfill the law of Christ. You see, he uses the word beros when talking about burdens. It's the Greek word for that. And it means an unbearable weight that is too heavy for one person to carry. If you put a barbell on this stage and told me to pick up a barbell loaded with 900 pounds, there is no way that I could do that by myself. No way at all. You invite Pastor Craig up here, maybe we could do it. You invite him and my friends, then yes, you better believe that we are getting that barbell off the ground. And it's just like when we try to carry something heavy that we weren't supposed to carry alone. And so we walk through the good times together, the bad times together. And I'll never forget when we walked through a really heartbreaking season with our friends, Cam and Emily, as they struggled through the heartbreak of infertility and unbearable weight. …
… Look at this. In this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ. Now, everybody's heard of the 10 commandments, the 10 big famous laws. This little phrase right here does not get the airplay it should, but this is front and center for all Jesus followers because the apostle Paul coined this phrase. This was his phrase to reduce or to summarize Jesus' new command that he gave his disciples at the end of his ministry, where he said, a new command I give you. The apostle Paul calls it the law of Christ. There's not 10, there's one. Jesus says, you are to love one another. You are to value one another as God through me has valued you. He said, you are to love one another as I, Jesus, have loved you. There's the golden rule and then there's the platinum rule, The law of Christ is the platinum rule. And we are to live our lives in such a way that we have the margin to help carry other people's burdens because we have not become a burden ourselves. …
… These are the one another commands. The apostle Paul says, bear one another's burdens. And in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ. He says also teach and admonish one another. He talks about forgiving one another, bearing with each other. The writer of Hebrews says, let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not to provoke one another to irritation, but to provoke one another or urge one another to love and good deeds. So we help each other become more loving by our presence with each other. James says that we're to pray for one another. First Peter says we're to serve one another. And there are many other of these one another's in scripture. All of it points to the fact that we need other people and they need us. I think a Bill Withers song, you know, we all needs somebody to lean on? Well, Jesus knew that, and so he started the church. All right, and I think about, you've heard this phrase before, it takes a village. That's true. Every time we baptize a baby, we ask everybody, will you support this child and their parents, their family? But you know, it takes a village for all of us, even us grown-ups. And as we get older, it still takes a village, maybe even more of a village as we get older, and then we become homebound, and we need people who are going to see us in the hospital. It takes a village for all of us. Now, this week …
… let me show you the main reason that we do it. Look in verse 2. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. So fulfill the law of Christ. What is the law of Christ? You can find that in Galatians 5 verse 14. For all the laws fulfilled in one word, even this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. That's the law of Christ. It's love. Genuine, genuine Christ-like love, loving our neighbor as we love ourself. Look at that fallen individual, that person who is burdened, and understand that you are to love him as you would want somebody to love you if you were in the same situation. And by the way, only a spiritual person can do that, for the Bible says the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost. Yes, it may be firm love. Yes, even though it's gentle, it may be firmness. But love says we'll go to those who have fallen. Love says we will go humbly. …
… considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden. Now there are three kinds of burdens I want to talk to you about today. There are burdens that we willingly take up. There are burdens that we faithfully endure. And then there are burdens that we wisely lay down. First of all, there are certain burdens that you're not to try to escape. As a matter of fact, there are burdens that you are to take up. And what are those burdens? Those are the burdens of another brother, another sister. When somebody is hurting. Now what Paul is writing about here is primarily the burden of the backslidden person. The man who has gotten away from God. …
