… The picture was not of his wife or children or church or even his reputation. He said God brought to his mind a scripture verse he had memorized years earlier, Galatians 6 verse 7. Do not be deceived. God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows, this shall he also reap. And Chuck turned to those two women and said, I have a full evening planned tonight. I'm not interested. And with that, he got off the elevator. That is the power of the word of God. It is a deterrent to sin, the sin that keeps us from experiencing God's blessing in our life. Let that picture linger in your mind for just a moment. You see, it wasn't willpower that rescued Chuck. It was a verse he had hidden in his heart years before. That's the power of God's Word. And it makes me wonder, what scripture are you tucking away today, for a moment you can't yet see coming? Because that Word may one day be your rescue. …
… and I reap what I sow and I hope I can do that. in Galatians chapter six, verse seven, he says, do not be deceived. God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. But a lot of us like to watch our own movies. You ever seen that Peter Parker, that meme? And it's just like the glasses, you're looking at something. One of the most recent ones I saw is Sam Darnold as a jet. And you're looking in and all of a sudden it's Tom Brady. Like, how is he playing that? Good. Shout out sports Superbowl. But when you're going in a mirror and you're looking in a mirror this morning, or you're going in tomorrow and you're looking through and you're like, oh, that's good. I look good. I FIND, on reference to Luther's Commentary on the Epistle to the Galatians, and to Calvin's Commentary on this passage, that both those learned expositors consider that this refers to the treatment of ministers by their people in the matter of their financial support. They very properly point out the connection between the 6th verse and the 7th—"Let him who is taught in the Word share with him who teaches in all good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap." I suppose that there was a need for such an injunction in Paul's day—and there is a need for it now. There were some hearers of the Gospel, then, who contributed generously towards the maintenance of the preacher and the Apostle says that what they gave would be like sowing good seed in return for which God would give to them an abundant harvest. But there were others who gave sparingly and who would, therefore, have a proportionately small return. …
