I Didn’t Ask | Reggie Dabbs
Reggie Dabbs, 2026-09-19

… 127 says, so God created man in his own image, and the image of God created them male and female. He created Genesis 2-7. I love this. It says, the Lord formed man from the dust of the ground, and then he breathed in the nostril breath of life, and man became a living being. Jesus us exhaled and we inhaled. It doesn't matter what's happening in your life. It doesn't matter what you've done. It doesn't matter where you've gone. It doesn't matter how corrupt you become. You're still made in the image of God. Go back to the creator that you created you. Somebody help me touch your neighbor and say, you got to go back. And some of you are already starting to do my title. Yeah, I didn't ask. you may not ask but he did it for you anyway but there you go we're halfway through that's the woman's story now I got the man's story in the book of John chapter 5 I love this because the Bible says there was this pool and and out of nowhere the water just starts moving and whoever gets in first is cured of whatever ailment that they had. So it says sometimes later, Jesus went to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there was in Jerusalem a sheep gate, a pool, which in America was Bethesda, which was surrounded by five covered porches. …

I Just Need A Second Wind - Dr. Oscar Williams
Dr. Oscar Williams, 2026-07-12

… a wind. This is what God breathed into the man. It is tied to another Hebrew word, neshama. In Genesis chapter 2, verse 7, God breathed into man, into his nostrils, the breath of life. And we see in Genesis chapter 7, verse 22, these two words marry themselves together, Neshama and Ruach, to be the breath of life. When in chapter 7, the Bible is talking about Noah and those who died in the flood, and it says, all in whose nostrils was the breath of life, was the Ruach. so wind breath and spirit speak of life ruach speaks of life wind blowing movement speaks of life vitality when the wind is blowing and moving there is action happening but but i have a question this morning. And my question this morning, Potter's House, is what do you do when God takes you to a place where there is no wind? What happens when God takes you to a place where you can't see and feel nothing moving? …

… And a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground. Then the Lord God, here it is, formed the man of dust from the ground. And breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. And the man became a living creature. And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the east. And there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made us spring up every tree that is pleasant to the side and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Go and skip down to verse 15. The Lord took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat. …

… receive the wind and and and y'all the only other places where we see this it's not in the greek new testament but we see this in genesis 2 verse 7 where god breathed into the nostrils of clay and humanity came to life. Jesus is replicating, reproducing what took place in Genesis chapter 2 and breathing into them because they had lost it all. They were traumatized and terrified and now they get a breath of fresh air and the breath of fresh air, it gives them new life. Wait, it ain't just Genesis 2 and 7. You got to run over to Ezekiel 37 where the book says, this is an old black preacher text where the black preacher would have Ezekiel in the valley of dry bones. And y'all know what happened in the valley of dry bones that Ezekiel is asked by God, can these bones live? I don't know. Thou knowest. And that's when all of a sudden the old preacher said the foot bone connected to the ankle bone. …

The Serpent’s Slogans - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon
Robert Barron, 2026-02-21 · Scripture reading

… No, no. God planted a garden in Eden in the east and placed there the man whom he had formed. Out of the ground he made various trees grow that were delightful to look at, good for food. You know what this stands for in this beautiful symbolic language? is all the things that God made for us to delight in. God is not interested in putting us down. He's not our rival. He's not taking advantage of us. Read the Greek myths if you want to see that. No, the God of the Bible wants us fully alive. And so he says, look, eat all the trees of the garden, all these beautiful things I made for you. It stands for all those things that give delight to our bodies and indeed to our souls. Good, good. In the middle of the garden, he planted the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The tree of life, what's that? Well, that's eternal life. …

… let us make man in our image after our likeness and then did you notice in Genesis 2 6 how the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and the man became a living creature. Like how close and intimate is that? God breathing life into man's nostrils, sharing breath with man. And then if you'll notice, the first thing God does after that is God blesses them in verse 28 and he gives them everything in creation. He uses that word twice. I've given you all these things. And then verse 31 says, God saw everything that he had made. And up until this point, God saw all that he made and it was good. On this day, God saw everything that he had made and behold, it was what? It was really, really, really good. This picture of people created for intimacy with the creator, unlike anything else in all creation. Just let this soak in. …

God's Good Design in Humanity
David Platt, 2025-09-24

… in our image after our likeness. And then check this out. Genesis chapter 2, verse 6, describing how God created man. We read, then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. How close, intimate is that? God breathing life. God sharing breath with man. And then the first thing God does after he makes man and woman is he blesses them, and he gives them all these things. We see that word give twice. I give you all these things. And then God, looking at humanity, says, I saw everything that I made, and behold, up until now, God saw what he made, and it was good. God saw what he made, it was good. This day, God saw what he made, and it was what? Very good. Like, really, really, really good. See it. God made you and me for close, unique, special relationship with him, unlike anything else in all creation. Just let this soak in. The God who spoke the world into being, the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal, infinitely holy, just, righteous, loving, sovereign creator and sustainer of everything has personally made you for close relationship with him. You've been made for intimate relationship with God. That's awesome. …

Don't Hold Your Breath - Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts
Sarah Jakes Roberts, 2025-07-27

… It says, And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being. that word breath in the hebrew means neshama neshama a puff you got to see so when god breathes his breath inside of us god doesn't have lungs he's not a human we received it as breath but it wasn't breath that hebrew word lets us know that it was divine inspiration or soul slash spirit So what we're calling breath is our soul. God's breath is our soul. God cares about your soul because your soul is his breath in the earth. Do you understand? Your soul, everything God's going to do in the earth, he's going to do through you, through your soul. I almost called this ready to exhale because when you step into your purpose, God exhales. God exhales. When you're raising those children, God is exhaling through you. When you're going into that job, God's exhaling through you. …

… Genesis 2, 7, it says, then the Lord God formed a man from the, what? the dust. Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being. God is not afraid of getting in the dirt. He's not afraid of getting in the dust. He's not afraid of getting in your pain or your struggle or the dark parts of your life. He's not afraid of it. He actually welcomes it. He says, no, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. He's not afraid of it. The God who created you with his hands and who scooped up dust and created Adam is not afraid to wrestle in your dirt and in your dark times and in the things that are shameful, in the sinful things. He's not afraid to get into those details with you. Because why? Because he's trying to wrestle that out of you so that you can walk in the calling that he has for you and so that you can walk and become more and more like Jesus. …

Marriage on Mission - Louie Giglio
Louie Giglio, 2025-06-08

… dust, it will give us more humility as we fulfill the roles that God's given us in this world. We weren't made out of titanium. We came from the dust of the ground. And he breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. The Lord God took the man, put him in the Garden of Eden to work it. There's another message for another day, but we're in paradise still, not even a fall, but this guy has a job. That's because work is part of the plan of God for all of our lives, amen, to being industrious and to contribute to the common good, to have a purpose and a meaning for our time on earth. This is before the fall, the man had a job. Take care of it. And the Lord commanded the man, you're free to eat out of any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it, you will certainly die. …

Rev. Dr. Judy Fentress-Williams, 2020-03-01

… that's when the Lord God formed a man. He formed him out of the dust of the ground. And then he breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. And the man became a living being. The Bible says that God planted a garden in Eden in the east. And in that garden, he caused to grow every kind of tree that was a delight to the eyes and good for food. And it tells us that in that garden, there was a tree called the tree of life. there's another tree called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and then God took the man that he had created and put him in the garden he had prepared for him and told him you may eat freely from every tree in this garden except from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil for in the day that you eat from that tree you will surely die and then the story says God said it's not good for the man to be alone I'm going to make a helper for him and so out of the ground the Lord God made every beast of the field and every bird of the air and he brought them to the man to see what the man would name them and whatever the man called it that was its name man named all the animals the man named all the birds he named everything God put in front of him but there was no …

The Book of Genesis (Part 1)
Francis Chan, 2017-01-06

… and stars, somehow he was going to make this creation that was in his image, in his likeness. And in chapter 2, it talks about how he formed, verse 7, the man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. And the man became a living creature. that God himself breathed life into us. Do you even think about that? Where our breath comes from, where our life comes from, and how we're completely dependent on this other being for our next breath. I mean, for some of us, God's going to decide this year, that's your last breath. I'm going to take you. You're going to come into my presence now. I'm going to pretty much guarantee some of us who are listening, myself included, this will be it. And that's a crazy thought. Because every breath is a gift from him. But he creates Adam there and he kind of elaborates on it in chapter 2. And he's in the garden with God. Have you thought about that? …
