To Die is Gain
Clay Anderson, 2026-04-20 · Scripture reading

the first truth that this chapter of scripture illustrates and the first truth that the heidelberg catechism brings us to this evening is that death pays for your sin it's an old truth it is an essential truth to remember as god's people that there is a massive chasm between the god of the universe and us his creatures by nature Abraham and his family understand this. At this point in time, Abraham has spoken to the Lord. He has offered sacrifices before. He has seen sacrifices offered before. And so Abraham and his house are unsurprised when the time comes again for the need to offer the Lord a sacrifice. Even before the system is set up in the book of Leviticus, even before there is a tabernacle or a great and glorious temple to worship and offer sacrifices in, It is the truth of the life of God's people that there needs to be a sacrifice offered so that we can meet with God, so that we can walk with God. …

Here I Am
Joel C. Gregory, 2023-08-24 · Scripture reading

Please pray with me. Eternal God, I pray that by the power of your spirit, these words about an event long ago and far away might slip the bonds of paper. and anointed by your power, we too might say tonight when you call us by name, here I am. I pray you'd free us from the distractions of this day and by your spirit enable us to focus on this word. In Jesus' name, amen. Here I am. Guidepost Magazine is a popular Christian devotional magazine. A while back, Guidepost asked its thousands of readers, has God ever spoken to you? Ann Logan of St. Louis was one of hundreds who responded. She said, yes, I was in bed, wracked by pain in my back. and God said to me, I will take care of you. Janice Gedded of Comstock, Michigan did not believe that God spoke to individuals today until she was sound asleep when it was time to pick her daughter up from school. And God spoke to her, waking her up to get her daughter. …

The Growth of Faith
Charles Spurgeon, 1864-01-24

It is just so with you, Sinner! You are powerless to save yourself, but all power in Heaven and in earth has been committed to Christ—He is mighty to save! Therefore trust Him to save you! Rest wholly upon what He is as the Christ of God, the anointed and appointed Savior—and upon what He has done upon Calvary's Cross to save all who believe in Him—and you shall be saved this very hour! Trust Jesus here and now and you shall be saved here and now—and to God shall be all the Glory forever and ever! Amen. GENESIS 22:1-19. Verse 1. And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt—[See Sermon #2223, Volume 37—abraham's trial—a lesson FOR BELIEVERS.] That is, "God did test or try"- 1, 2. Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And He said, Take now your son. "But, Lord, I have two sons, Ishmael and Isaac." 2. Your only son. "But, Lord, both Ishmael and Isaac are my sons and each of them is the only son of his mother." 2. Isaac, whom you love. See how definitely God points out to Abraham the son who is to be the means of the great trial of his father's faith—"Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love."— 2. And get you into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell you. It was usually the way, in God's commands to Abraham, to make him sail under sealed orders. When he was first bidden to leave his country and his kindred, and his father's house, he had to go to a land that God would show him. They have true faith who can go forth at God's command, not knowing where they are going! So Abraham did, and now the Lord says to him, "Take Isaac, and offer him for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell you." …

… Look at the next verse. So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey. Look at verse two again. And he said, take now your son. Not one of these days, now. Did he learn to listen? Yes. Learn to obey? Yes. Learn to depend upon God? Yes. Learn to wait upon Him? Yes. Now, that means now. Next morning, early gets up. Took two of his young men with him. Isaac, his son, split the wood for the burnt offering, arose and went to the place of which God had told him. On the third day, Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance. And Abraham said to his young men, stay here. Now, watch this carefully. Stay here with the donkey and I and the lad will go yonder and we will worship and return to you. Now I know that Abraham is about to graduate in school of faith because this is the acid test of his love and devotion to God. This son whom he looked for all these years, hundred years old when he was born, the son of promise, and now he says to him, I want you to take him to Mount Moriah and I want you to sacrifice him to me. …
