Overcoming Fear │ Msg 14/14
Chuck Swindoll, 2026-07-07

… Drop down to verse 8. They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. The Lord God called to the man and said to him, Where are you? As if to say, Why are you where you are, Adam? God wasn't really in need of knowing where he was. He wanted Adam to realize why he was there. Where are you, Adam? And now Adam's response is of interest to us. He said, I heard the sound of thee in the garden. Now notice the first reference in all of time. I was afraid. There you have it. Sin came and on its heels came fear. Adam said, Up till now we've known a harmony, but now I'm afraid. And it even goes on to say, I was naked and I hid myself. Man not only is succumbing to fear, we also are engaged in the constant activity of covering it up, hiding ourselves, hiding it from others. …

… and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. And they heard the sound of the Lord walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, Where are you? And he said, I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, and I hid myself. He said, who told you? God said, who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat? The man said, the woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate. Then the Lord God said to the woman, what is this that you have done? The woman said, the serpent deceived me, and I ate. The Lord God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, Cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field. …

This Means War - Touré Roberts
Touré Roberts, 2026-06-14 · Scripture reading

wow look at that wow look at that real quick I gotta teach it but look at that God immediately is connecting his dysfunction to his disobedience Thank you. He doesn't even litigate all of the confusion. He's saying there's a one-stop shop for your confusion, and it's disobedience. and your disobedience has opened now a Pandora's box, and more specifically, not just your disobedience, but your disobedience to the word I spoke. then the man said it gets even more dysfunctional then the man said the woman who you gave to be with me now he's blaming the lord he's so dysfunctional he is now accusing god of being dysfunctional it was a bad idea god you giving me that woman was a terrible idea god you ought to be look at how crazy we get how insane we get when we disconnect from the word. And the man said to the woman, the man said, the woman whom you gave to me with me, she gave me of the tree and I ate. …

… Verse 8 says, They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Listen to verse 9. But the Lord God called to the who? To the man and said to him, Where are you? I mentioned earlier that obviously we each have responsibility before God for His image in us and our sin against Him. But I want you to notice when God comes to confront His creation for the first time in sin, He goes directly to man. but even though the whole story really before is about eve and adam just kind of plays a minor role in it what happens is god comes to man and directly holds him responsible and we see abuse of this relationship with woman begin right after that he starts to blame the woman for this or that there's responsibility that god gave to man it's why in adam all die sin came into the world through one man. Because the primary responsibility for sins ultimately, in a sense, is put on the shoulders of man, not woman. All that leading to two more. The effect of sin. …

Where’d You Go?
Guest speaker, 2026-04-26

From then until now. Let me show you. In Genesis chapter 3 verse 8. In Genesis chapter 3 verse 8 it says, and they, speaking of Adam and Eve, heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. I want to pause there for just a moment. That the God who created them did not make them, wind them up like a clock, and then just let them go as some people say God does now. No, God came looking for them. He wanted to have fellowship with them. You could almost say that God was in pursuit of them. In one of the greatest books that I've personally read, The Pursuit of God, A.W. Tozer puts it this way. He says, all is of God, for as Von Hugel teaches, God is always previous. I want to pause there for a moment. What he's saying is that before you and I ever sought God, God was already seeking you. He was already coming after you. …

… I think it's Genesis 2 or 3, in the cool of the day. Thank you. These guys are amazing. They heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. why the cool of the day? Because anytime God starts walking with you, it's cool. No, I'm kidding. But it's in the cool of the day. And Adam and his wife on this day, because he would do it every day. I want you to imagine as the sun is setting, is what that means. The sun's on their back and here comes God in the garden. Oh, this is what he loves. daily. He would show up at the end of the day. and walk in the garden with them. Look at the animals. Oh, daily I load you down, don't I? But on this day they had sinned. Just keep it up a moment. On this day they had sinned and they hid themselves from the presence of God. Thank you, that's good. …

The Daze Of The Antichrist

… not just private parts. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, which was normal. That was the norm. Wow, wouldn't that be amazing to hear God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. What did that sound like? Oh my gosh, that'd be awesome. And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said, where are you? Translation, I know exactly where you're at because I know all things. So when I say, where are you? Say, I'm right here. Confess. So where are you? So he said, I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked. And I hid myself. That is a huge statement, verse 10, everybody. There's a deep, deep psychological, spiritual, physical message to verse 10. and he said, who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree which I commanded you that you should not eat? …

… chapter 25 to 31, exactly seven times we read, the Lord said. And after the seventh time we read that, immediately the Lord talks about the Sabbath. Then in Genesis chapter 3, verse 8, we read about how God was walking in the Garden of Eden. And in Leviticus chapter 26, verse 11 and 12, we see the exact same language in the Hebrew describing how God is walking among his people through the tabernacle. Then we read in Genesis chapter 2 verse 10 through 12 how Eden is filled with gold, delium, and onyx stone. And we see all those in the tabernacle. And this delium is really interesting here because you might say, well, those are just common things. But no, delium is only mentioned one other time in the entire Old Testament after Eden. And it's when it's compared to manna. And the tabernacle has a jar of manna right in the middle of it. That's all in Exodus 16, 33 and Numbers chapter 11, verse 7. Then Eden has a tree of life right in the center of it. And the tabernacle has a menorah or a lampstand in it, Exodus chapter 25, verse 31 through 40, that's shaped and described exactly like a tree with branches and blossoms and flowers. …

God's Good Design in Humanity
David Platt, 2025-09-24

… And after the seventh time we read that, the Lord talks about the Sabbath. Then in Genesis chapter 3, verse 8, we read about how God was walking in the Garden of Eden. And in Leviticus chapter 26, verses 11 and 12, specifically verse 12, we see the exact same language describing how God is walking with his people in the tabernacle. And then in Genesis chapter 2, verse 10 through 12, Eden is described as a place filled with gold, delium, and onyx, all of which are represented in the tabernacle. And delium's really interesting because you might say, well, that's just kind of a coincidence, but delium is only mentioned one other time after Genesis 2. And it's referring in the book of Exodus, Exodus 16, 33, to the manna that God provided in the wilderness in Numbers chapter 11, verse 7, those two verses together make clear there was some of that manna that was to be included in the middle of the tabernacle. Then Eden had the tree of life at the center of it, and the tabernacle had a lampstand in it, Exodus 25, verse 31 through 40, that's described, depicted like a tree, complete with blossoms and branches and flowers. …

Shame on you. the diagnosis has come back and the results are in that the society that we live in has a severe case of dyslexia. because we tend and are prone to read things backwards. Make it make sense. How we shame victims and rationalize perpetrators. it becomes very difficult for survivors to come forward because we penalize appearance, categorize clothes, minimize power dynamics, and we do it all in earshot of our daughters. …

Where Are You? | The Garden, The Flood & The Promise | Chad Veach
Chad Veach, 2025-05-04 · Scripture reading

… Trader Joe's, but God did say you must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden and you must not touch it or you will die. You will not certainly die. The serpent said to the woman, for God knows that when you eat from it, your eyes will be open and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye and desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and she ate it. She also gave some to her husband who was with her and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were open and they realized they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to them, where are you? And he answered, I heard you in the garden and I was afraid because I'm naked. So I hid. And he said, who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from? And the man said, the woman you put here with me, she gave me some of the fruit from the tree and I ate it. And the Lord God said to the …
