… into what the world looks like through God's eyes. But there is one in Genesis 6. In Genesis 6 verse 5 through 6, this is right before the flood. And right before the flood, it says that God looked at the earth and when he looked at the earth he noticed that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually and it goes on in verse 6 and it says and the Lord was sorry that he had made man on the earth and he was grieved in his heart God's grief and looking at the earth was that the wickedness and the evilness that was on the earth was in such direct contrast to what he intended in the garden. So when he looked at the world and grieved, he grieved because we were so far from what he originally intended. And so when we look back then in Genesis 2 to try and get an understanding, well, Lord, what was your original intention? I go to Genesis 2. And I think Genesis 2 verses 16 through 17 make it explicitly clear what God intended earth and our experience on earth to be like. Genesis 2 verses 16 through 17 says, and the Lord God commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden you may freely eat, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die. So this gives us some …
… verse one, when human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said, my spirit will not contend with humans forever for they are mortal and their days will be 120 years. And the Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil at all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on earth and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, I will wipe from the face of the earth, the human race I have created and with them, the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground. For I regret that I have made them. Verse eight, last verse, but Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. I want to preach a message today. Write down the title. It's called Flooded with Grace. …
… God. The grace of God is already showing up in the earliest part of man's story. But mankind they went nuts and they were wicked beyond wicked. The Lord says in chapter six, then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry. that he had made man on the earth, and he was grieved in his heart. So the Lord said, I'll destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them. But, but, but is the conjunction of grace. but Noah not perfect but it says a few verses down that he was a righteous man in his heart Noah found what grace the first time this word appears in the bible in the eyes of the Lord and so Noah had to work and he had to build a boat and he did he built an ark he did the work of building the ark. …
… chapter 6 and in verse 5, this is where it gets, you know, if that's not strange to you, this gets very strange because in verse 5 it says, the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually and the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and the birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I made them. But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. Now, almost all of us, when we read that, there's a sense of shock. One, that God was grieved at that. The people got so evil that God was grieved. I mean, understand that God is not just this machine up there that feels nothing. We were created in his image. …
… As a matter of fact, the Bible tells us, look in verse 5, And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth. Now watch this. And every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Now the word imagination here does not mean daydreams. It means wicked schemes. It speaks of philosophies. There were philosophers and idea people and politicians who were trying to remake and remold society in that day. And I'm telling you we have that today in a way that we've never had before. don't we? You know, somebody was talking about a well-known politician and they said, when it comes to a press conference, how can you tell whether he's telling a lie or not? How can you tell whether he's lying? They said, well, he's, he's really a good liar, so it's hard to tell whether he's lying or not, but we've watched him enough. If he, if he puts his finger up here beside his nose, he's telling the truth. If he, if he reaches up and holds an earlobe, he's telling the truth. They I SAID, YEAH, BUT HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN HE'S LYING? …
Look at it. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord God or the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast and the creeping things and the fowls of the air, for it repenteth me that I have made them. But now here's our verse, look at it. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Now, ladies and gentlemen, that's the first time the word grace is used in the Bible. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations. And Noah walked with God. And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The earth also was corrupt before God. …
