… He will surely curse you to your face. The Lord said to the Satan, behold, all that he has is in your power. Only do not put forth your hand on him. So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord. You remember what happened? Four different messengers. It happened on the day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house that a messenger came. Verse 16, while he was still speaking, another also came. 17, while he was still speaking, another also came. 18, while he was still speaking, another also came and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking in their oldest brother's house, and a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they died. Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell to the ground and worshiped. Verse 1, again, there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord and the Satan also came among them to present himself before the Lord. Same question, same answer. The Lord, verse three said to Satan, have you considered my servant Job? …

… he will surely curse you to your face and the Lord said to Satan behold all that he has is in your power only do not put forth your hand on him so Satan departed from the presence of the Lord Just leave your Bible open in your lap there and bow with me in prayer. Will you do that? As the story unfolds from this ancient document, we are immediately impressed with a man who indeed was just a man, but what a man. He loved you. He feared you, Father, and he disciplined his life in such a way that he had nothing to do with evil and the compromises of those of his day. thank you for the model of this man, and thank you for the lessons to be learned from just the opening words in this resume of righteousness. But our hearts skip a beat when we turn the page in his life and see the other side. And we become privy to something that not even Job knew was taking place. …
… And I want to read the passage like the dear Dr. Chaffer, I understand, used to read it when he would read Job 1, 12 through 22. Then the Lord said to Satan, Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him. So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord. Now what happened on the day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house, that a messenger came to Job and said, The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, and the Sabaeans attacked and took them, they also slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you. While he was still speaking, another also came and said, The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you. While he was still speaking, another also came and said, The Chaldeans formed three bands and made a raid on the camels and took them and slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you. …
… different levels we're dealing with spiritual warfare i'll just point to job you guys can go read it later on but job 1 verses 8 to 12 god asks satan if he's considered his servant job and in this satan's basically like oh yeah i've considered him like meaning yeah i would like to go do stuff to him. I'd like to mess with him a little bit, but you've placed a hedge of protection around him and I can't get to him. So God begins to remove at different levels some amount of protection that he placed around Job so that Satan's allowed to do stuff to him. And so we read the whole book and then we see in the end, God blesses Job with twice as much as he ever had before, including children. Did you know that? Including children. Because the children that he lost, The number of children he had, I think it was seven. I don't remember exactly. But he received the same number of children again. …
… the angelic creatures are coming to present themselves. And along comes Satan. And the Lord said unto Satan, and by the way, the word Satan means adversary. Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord and said, from going to and fro in the earth and from walking up and down in it. And by the way, he's still doing that today, isn't he? And the Lord said unto Satan, Has thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, and one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Now watch verse 9. Then Satan answered the Lord and said, Doth Job fear God for naught? That is, God, isn't there some ulterior motive that he serves you? Then verse 10, Now here's the challenge that Satan throws into the face of God concerning Job. God, he doesn't really love you. He doesn't really care about you. He's not really trusting you. You've just bought him off. You've bribed him. …
… WILL PROVE IT. AND SO THE BATTLE BEGINS. LOOK IN VERSE 12, AND THE LORD SAID UNTO SATAN, BEHOLD, ALL THAT HE HATH IS IN THY POWER. ONLY PUT NOT FORTH THY HAND. AND SO SATAN WENT FORTH FROM THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD." NOW THAT TELLS US THAT SATAN HAS THE POWER TO AFFLICT. BUT IT ALSO TELLS US THAT SATAN'S POWER IS LIMITED. HE IS POWERFUL, BUT HE IS NOT ALL POWERFUL. AND THEN WE BEGIN A DRAMA IN THREE ACTS. AND I WANT TO TELL YOU AS WE LOOK INTO THIS STORY HOW TO STAND WHEN YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND. ACT ONE IS UNEXPECTED TRAGEDY. UNEXPECTED TRAGEDY. LIFE JUST CAVES IN ON JOB. AND HE HAS NO REASON, NO WAY TO UNDERSTAND WHY LIFE HAS CAVED IN ON HIM. IT IS NOTHING THAT HE HAS DONE. HE HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING WRONG AT ALL. GO TO CHAPTER TWO AND VERSE THREE. AND I WANT TO SHOW YOU THIS, AND THE LORD SAID UNTO SATAN, HAST THOU CONSIDERED MY SERVANT JOB, THAT THERE'S NONE LIKE HIM IN THE EARTH, A PERFECT AND AN UPRIGHT MAN, ONE THAT FEARETH GOD AND ESCHEWETH EVIL, AND STILL HE HOLDETH FAST HIS INTEGRITY, ALTHOUGH THOU MOVEST ME AGAINST HIM TO DESTROY HIM. …
