What Job Teaches Us about Our God, Part 3
Chuck Swindoll, 2026-10-06 · Scripture reading

… Then Job answered the Lord and said, I know that you can do all things. number one in a list of seven there is nothing god cannot do having heard and having realized the limitless power of his infinite god joe puts his observation and realization into the simplest of terms you can do all things There is nothing God cannot do. There's a second. And I find it at the end of verse 2, no purpose of yours can be thwarted. It is impossible to restrain or nullify God's purposes. God's intentions can neither be altered nor disrupted. What he purposes will transpire without delay, without hindrance, and without failure. Which brings us to a third. God's plans are beyond our understanding and too deep to explain. God's plans are beyond our understanding and too deep to explain. See how Job puts it in verse 3? I have declared that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. That took some humility to say that. …

What Job Teaches Us about Our God, Part 1
Chuck Swindoll, 2026-10-02 · Scripture reading

… Then Job answered the Lord and said, I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. Hear now, and I will speak. I will ask you, and you instruct me. I have heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you. Therefore, I retract, and I repent in dust and ashes. Verse 10, the Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends and the Lord increased all that Job had twofold. Verse 12, the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. Verse 16, after this, Job lived 140 years and saw his sons and his grandsons, four generations. And Job died, an old man and full of days. chuck title today's message what job teaches us about our god it's amazing how miscommunication can lead to misunderstanding. This is especially true when what is being communicated winds up in the hearing of the wrong person. I thought of that just this past week when I came across the story of a Minneapolis couple who were there in February, and it was raw, and it was frigid and they decided they would enjoy a long weekend together in Florida. …

Finally . . . Justice Rolls Down, Part 1
Chuck Swindoll, 2026-09-22

Job says, verse 2, I know, he's speaking to the Lord, I know that you can do all things and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. You can do all things and no one can hold you back. Here's the lesson I learned from that. God's purpose is unfolding and I cannot hinder it. Some of you need to hear that. I do not know the details of your circumstances, but surely in a group this large, there must be some pretty tough situations. There are some pretty severe needs. And you may begin to wonder if this is getting out of control and God really is absent. Remember the principle. God's purpose is unfolding, mysterious as it may seem, and I cannot hinder it. You will discover before I'm through with these four that the whole focus is on the Lord. It's not on life. It is on the Lord. It's not on others. It is on the Lord. It is not on the difficulties. It is on the Lord. …

Full Repentance for All the Right Reasons, Part 1

… Then Job answered the Lord and said, I know that you can do all things and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore, I have declared that which I did not know, that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me which I did not know. Hear now and I will speak I will ask you and you instruct me I have heard of you by the hearing of the ear But now my eye sees you Therefore I retract And I repent in dust and ashes It is difficult to cultivate a humble heart in a contentious culture. Put another way, a repentant spirit is rarely found in a litigious society. How rarely do we hear the words, I'm wrong, I'm sorry. And as opposed to that, how often we hear the words, I will sue you. I will take you to court. Just this past week, a good friend of mine sent me a classic example of just how litigious our society is. …

… Job 42 I know that you can do all things this is what he finally concludes after 42 chapters of messing up I know that you can do all things and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted I'm on my face my hand is over my mouth you are God I'm not I'm going to stop objecting and criticizing you so that is the first meaning of the will of God everything that happens is the sovereign will of God or call it the will of decree but that's not what the will of God means here here. whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother. Huh, wait a minute. You just said everything that happens is God's will in one sense. I said, yes. Well, that doesn't work here. Because everybody is not his brother and sister and mother. He meant keep the commandments. God's will is don't kill, don't steal, don't lie. Obey your parents. That's God's will. His will of, what should we call it? …

Our Father, we find words like that... so appealing to us in this age in which we live, where so seldom our adult ears ever hear words like, I am sorry, and even how rarely our own mouths say, I was wrong, and I repent. What a great model this man has been through these long weeks of suffering and growing and struggling, longing for relief. And now what full repentance emerges. …

… THEN HE LEARNS THE SUFFICIENCY OF GOD. LOOK, LOOK IN VERSE ONE, THEN JOB ANSWERED THE LORD AND SAID, I KNOW THAT THOU CANST DO EVERYTHING. THAT, FRIEND, IS THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD, AND THAT NO THOUGHT CAN BE WITHHOLDEN FROM THEE. AND THEN HE GOES ON TO SAY IN VERSE FIVE, I HAVE HEARD THEE BY THE HEARING OF THE EAR, BUT NOW MINE EYE SEEETH THEE. JOB FINALLY SEES GOD. JOB'S THREE FRIENDS ARE TALKING ABOUT GOD, BUT JOB IS NOW TALKING TO GOD. JOB SAYS, LORD, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, I'VE SEEN YOU, AND BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN YOU, THAT IS ENOUGH. NOW, LISTEN, PRECIOUS FRIEND, ALL OF US HERE TODAY KNOW THAT GOD IS NECESSARY. WE ALL KNOW THAT. BUT I WONDER HOW MANY OF US KNOW THAT GOD IS ENOUGH. GOD IS ENOUGH. I SAY IT AGAIN, GOD IS ENOUGH. YOU SEE, YOU MAY NOT KNOW THAT GOD IS ENOUGH UNTIL GOD IS ALL YOU HAVE. WHERE ARE YOU GETTING YOUR JOY? YOU SAY, WELL, FROM THE LORD. HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU'RE NOT GETTING IT FROM YOUR CHILDREN? WELL, TAKE AWAY YOUR CHILDREN AND SEE IF YOU STILL HAVE YOUR JOY. WHERE ARE YOU GETTING YOUR JOY? FROM YOUR HEALTH. ARE YOU, UH, OR FROM GOD, YOU SAY, WELL, HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU'RE NOT GETTING IT FROM YOUR HEALTH? LET'S TAKE AWAY YOUR HEALTH AND SEE IF YOU STILL HAVE YOUR JOY. SEE, GOD REDUCED JOB DOWN TO THIS, THAT JOB HAD NOTHING AND NOBODY BUT GOD AND HE LEARNED THAT GOD WAS …
