… have to go, well, by default, by default. No, no, no, no. We can say by design, by faith. I love what the book of Joel says. Joel chapter two, verse 25. I will restore to you the years that the swarming locusts have eaten. What? A power-packed and pregnant verse. I like that, pregnant verse. so you're telling me, Ed, that as I make these faith decisions, that God can, if I'll allow him, replace and replenish the dysfunction and the years the locusts have eaten? Yes. Yes. And it took Abraham decade after decade after decade after decade to work these things out. It's part of his sanctification. It's part of my sanctification and part of your sanctification. So it's not gonna be like, boom, I'm in the zone. Wow, I'll never default again. I'm just into the design. No, you're still gonna, we're still gonna struggle with it, but I just want you to know there's a force of faith. I've gotta bring up a lot. I hate to bring up something negative, but I will. …
Thus far, the word of God. As you take your seats this morning, I want you to pray with me on the subject, when God allows it. When God allows it. beloved on Friday I was blessed to celebrate 27 years of life and this year I've got so much to be thankful for but I can barely wrap my mind around it but the one thing that I've been grateful for above everything else this year is God's protection this birthday my mind was fixated on all the things God has protected me from. Dr. Judy, I kept thinking about what the old saints used to say. God has kept me from dangers seen and unseen. I woke up Friday thinking about how God has covered me on every road trip and on every plane flight. I couldn't help but to bless God when I considered the ways that God has protected my health and covered me with the community that surrounds me in prayer. I thought about how God has protected me from my own dumb decisions and foolish choices. I thought about all the times God protected me from enemies who wanted to bring me down. I am grateful for God's protection. …
11. These were the appointed means: For it was not merely by the light of reason, or of natural conscience, as it is called, that the people of God have been, in all ages, directed to use fasting as a means to these ends; but they have been, from time to time, taught it of God himself, by clear and open revelations of his will. Such is that remarkable one by the Prophet Joel: “Therefore saith the Lord, Turn you to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: — Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him? Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: — Then will the Lord be jealous over his land, and will pity his people. Yea, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil: — I will no more make you a reproach among the Heathen.” (Joel 2.12.) Nor are they only temporal blessings which God directs his people to expect in the use of these means. For, at the same time that he promised to those who should seek him with fasting, and weeping, and mourning, “I will restore you the years which locust hath eaten, the canker-worm, and the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm, my great army;” he subjoins, “So shall ye eat and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God. — Ye shall also know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God.” And then immediately follows the great gospel promise: “I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit.” [Joel 2:28–29] …
