But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe Me, believe the works themselves, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I am in the Father.”But if I do them, though you don’t believe me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.But if I do them, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.

The point is that these works were given to Jesus to do to prove he was the Messiah. In John 10 verses 37 and 38, John wrote, quoting Jesus, if I do not do the works of my Father, don't believe. But if I do them, though you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father. Now, those are the four Greek words that are translated or associated with miracles. There is a fifth word that although it's not found in the Bible, its principle is woven throughout the Bible, and it's the word providence. Have you ever heard people talk about divine providence? Many of our nation's forefathers talked about providence. Providence means to see beforehand. It refers to God's ability to see beforehand what happens to us. Isn't that a comforting thought that God knows ahead of time? That when something unexpected happens to you, something tragic, something tragic happens to me, God doesn't slap his forehead and say, oh, I can't believe that happened to Robert. Why? He's in a pickle now. What is he going to do? …

And it's the word providence. Have you ever heard people talk about divine providence? Many of our nation's forefathers talked about providence. Providence, what does it mean? It comes from two Latin words, pro, which means beforehand, and the dara, which we get our word video from, which means to see. Providence means to see beforehand. It refers to God's ability to see beforehand what happens to us. Isn't that a comforting thought that God knows ahead of time? in John chapter 10, he said to them, if I do not do the works of my father, do not believe me. But if I do, though you do not believe me, believe the works that you may know and believe that the father is in me and that I am in the father. So back to the Nazarenes, the unbelievers of Nazareth. Unbelievers will admit that Jesus was a very powerful person. Yeah, he did miracles. But they won't give a rational explanation how a mere human could do those miracles. Even the Babylonian Talmud, you've heard me refer to the Talmud before. Let me just tell you what that is. The Talmud is a massive multi-volume set of literature of how the Jews through history applied scripture. It's filled with debates, legal rulings, stories, commentary, and the Talmud, the rabbinical records will not deny that Jesus indeed did amazing things. But they have an explanation of who he was. I'll get to that in a minute, but they just said, yep, he did amazing things. He did a lot of miracles. …
… Our problem is you're a blasphemer. You being a man, make yourself out to be God. Now turn to the page, verse 34. Jesus answered them with a question that has become, well, a problem of conflict to the reader of Scripture. Listen to what he says. Has it not been written in your law, I said you are gods? If he then called them, if he called them gods to whom the word of God came, the scripture can't be broken. Do you say of him whom the father set apart and sent into the world, you are blaspheming because I said I am the son of God? If you were to take your time to read Psalm 82, you would find that in that Psalm... God the Father reveals to the psalmist that the judges on earth were the Elohim of the earth. That's a Hebrew word meaning gods. They were considered the great leaders. They were considered those that spoke on behalf of God, the judges in the land. …
… then do not believe me. But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works that you may know and understand that the father is in me and I am in the father. Even if you can't bring yourself to believe my words, what I'm saying to you right now, believe my works. I mean, do you hear his patience with them right now? They're holding rocks to kill him. And he's saying, hear my voice, hear my voice. And if you can't hear my voice, then look at the works. If you're deaf here, then watch. Because if you watch long enough, maybe God will give you the ears to hear and believe what I'm saying to you. maybe if you believe the works for now, you'll believe in me soon. What did they do in the face of all his patience? Verse 39, again, they sought to arrest him, but he escaped their hands. They hated, rejected, and attacked him. They treated the son of God like a wolf. …
… Because I said, I am the Son of God. If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe me. But if I do, though you do not believe me, believe the works that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in Him." And therefore they sought again to seize him, but he escaped out of their hand. And he went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was baptizing at first, and there he stayed. And many came to him and said, John performed no sign, but all the things that John spoke about this man were true, and many believed in him there. He who has ears to hear the Word of God, let them hear it." You may be seated. Let's pray. Again, our Father, as we give our attention to Your Word, we pray that unlike those who listened to the teaching of Christ that is recorded here, that we may respond with joy, with thanksgiving, and with faith. …
