the background in which we find ourselves and the influences that we've known upon us. The chorus that I had in my mind as I was just thinking of wrapping this up comes out of John chapter 10 and verse 9. Better from verse 7, maybe. So Jesus again says to them—he's just declared, I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep. And so he says to them, verse 7, Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. I'm the door of the sheep. All who ever came before me are thieves and robbers. But the sheep don't listen to them. And just think about that for a moment, back to where we started in 2 Timothy. Paul says to Timothy, you need to know the context in which you're going to follow Jesus. Evil men and imposters will be going from bad to worse, deceiving people and being themselves deceived. So he says, you need to understand that. …
… Verse 9, I am the door. If anyone enters through me, notice the access through Jesus, he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal, to kill, and to destroy. Not I, says Jesus. I come to save. When you notice in verse 10, he also says, I have come that they might have life and might have it abundantly. The Westerner reads that and he thinks prosperity. He thinks success. Because we connect abundance with things. And you lie to yourself if you deny that. All around us there are sights and scenes of abundance and they are invariably connected with creature comforts, with a fat wallet, a good, well-paying job, a fine bank account, financial security. I think it is unfortunate that we have read into Jesus' comment in verse 10 something he never meant to say. How many of the lost are told, if you will come to know Jesus Christ, you will have life abundantly. And they think, ah, there's my answer to a job. …
… different writer, different setting, same speaker, Jesus. John 10, verse 9. Don't miss the definite article. I am the door. Remember when you were in grade school, just learning to read? Remember how every word was so important that even the these were pronounced like that? I am the door. It's not bad. It's worth reading like that. I am the door. I'm not one among many. I'm not one among four. I am the door. Continue reading. If anyone enters through me, that's singular. he shall be saved, shall go in and out and find pasture. verse 10 the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy not i i come that they might have life and when you enter my gate you have life that is life in abundance john 14 look at verse 6 same speaker different setting hours before he was nailed to a cross he was still saying the same thing. … live a life full of his fruit, joy, patience, kindness, gentleness, self-discipline, love, all of the above. I love what his word says. John 10 9, Jesus says, I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out and find pasture. I love Zoe. If you can't tell, I've been here over nine years now. It's an honor. It's a privilege to be on this stage, to be able to share with you my story, what God is speaking to me. Oh, thank you. Thank you. But what I love about Zoe is that we're a praying church. We're a generous church. We're a faith filled church. But we're a real church. We keep it real here. And so I got to tell you, although we believe that Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life, there is also truth that an enemy is trying to come for your heart, trying to come for your mind. And so today we're going to see in the word of God that there are ways to protect you from the enemy. There are ways that you can stay rooted and planted in the promise that God has for your life. And so today I want to share the title of the message. The title of the message today is Lost But Not Least. Do you believe it? You're not last on God's list, okay? You are number one. You are his number one priority. There is nothing that you do in life, there's no failure. There is no sin that cancels you out. As you move through …
So you probably know this. We know that this is for UMD, for CSS. This is the last week of classes. One more week of classes. And then I just think about this. Like think about the road that brought you here. Like the road that brought you to this moment, the road that brought you to this season, or even like, you know, we're in the fourth Sunday of Easter. Three weeks ago, some of many of you, 55 people in this community became Catholic. and the road that brought you to the Catholic Church, or if that was the past, like just to think about the fact that wherever you're right now, there was some road that led you to this moment. Whether you're in school, out of school, it doesn't matter. Whether you've always been Catholic or just it's kind of a new thing for you. There was this road that brought you here. And this is one of those things that always happens. Whenever we're like, okay, this is the road that brought me here, there's a new question that comes up. …
… him today if you're thankful. I didn't get into an ark. Oh, hallelujah. I got into a man. In fact, put this on the screen. I like this. John chapter 10, verse 9. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. John 6, 37. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out. This is all about Jesus. How about Colossians 3 verse 3? For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. Let me just say this to you. Do you know that when God looks at you, he can't even see you? Because in front of you is Jesus, the Lamb of God. And so when he looks at you, he does not see your sin. He looks at the sacrifice for your sin, and your life is now hidden. He shut Noah and his family in the ark, and he has shut you and I into the grace and salvation of Jesus. Clap if you're thankful today. I didn't get into a boat. I got into a man. …
… were which He had been saying to them. So Jesus said to them again, "'Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who come before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I come that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep." This is a very vivid picture that our Lord paints. He tells us in verse 6 that it's a figure of speech. In other words, He's giving us a physical, temporal, earthly illustration of a spiritual reality. And it features the idea of a shepherd, a shepherd who comes to take his sheep out of a fold and set them loose in the pasture. This is a picture of the work of our Lord in gathering His own elect redeemed people. …
