to perform the greatest resurrection story we have ever heard. so this passage it says in verse 30 or 45 says therefore many of the jews who had come to visit mary and had seen what jesus did believed in him but some of them went to the pharisees and told them what jesus had done and jesus then he willingly gives himself so the miracle could become more than one man's resurrection. So he didn't even start walking. He started to wrestle with the willingness that he needed to walk in to become the accelerated portion of this story that would lead Jesus to the cross. In this passage, it shows this irony where Jesus gave life to Lazarus, and the religious leaders responded by planning Jesus's death. And the miracle that demonstrated Jesus's power over death became the catalyst for the events that would lead to his crucifixion. And in God's sovereign plan here, Lazarus walked out of the tomb so that Jesus would what? Walk toward the cross. And we never know that if we just stopped with the working and didn't keep going with the walking or the willing, what thing we are supposed to accomplish that could impact others. Would you stand to your feet today? …
… Verse 45 tells us other people did too. Many therefore of the Jews who had come to Mary and beheld what he had done believed in him. But some of them went of the way to the Pharisees and there was unbelief at the same time. I find two major truths in chapter 11, the Gospel of John. Two truths. They work hand in hand like pieces of a rag rug woven together. The first is this. When delays occur, God has a better time and a better way. When the Lord says no to your timing, he has a better time and he has a better way of doing it. This was brought home to me when my friend Ted wanted to catch a commercial plane back to his home. He was flying ultimately from Florida, had a hop in New Orleans and then on into Dallas, and did not make connections in this hop in New Orleans. And he was actually on the plane, but a fellow who had had a reserved seat from months past, that was his seat. …
… When Jesus arrived he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. Now Bethany was near Jerusalem only about two miles away and many of the Jews who had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming she went to meet him. But Mary sat at home. Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if you would have been here, my brother would not have died. But even now, I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you. Jesus said to her, your brother will rise. Martha said to him, I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day. Jesus told her, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, even if he dies will live. And everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? She said, Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world. When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary secretly, saying, The teacher is here and is asking for you. As soon as she heard this, she rose quickly and went to him. For Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still where Martha had met him. So when the Jews who were with her in the house comforting her saw Mary get up quickly and go out, they followed her, presuming that she was going to the tomb to weep …
… You got a new identity, you're a new person. and then in verse 45 is our last little bit therefore many of the jews who had come to visit mary and had seen what jesus did believed in him how could you not but some of them went to the pharisees and told them what jesus had done then the chief priest and the pharisees called a meeting of the sanhedrin what are we accomplishing they asked here's this man performing many signs if we let him keep on like this. Everyone will believe in him. And then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation. Then one of them named Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year, spoke up, you know nothing at all. You do not realize that it would be better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish. He's going, I got an idea we could kill him. He did this. He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation. …
