Seeking before Hiding │ Msg 9/14

… what did they do? Well, they took the branches of the palm trees. They went out to meet him and they began to cry out, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel. Wow, what a scene. The other gospel writers sort of fill in the blanks here. The multitude was made up of those that had seen Lazarus raised and those that had heard of his being raised. We know that from the two verses, 17 and 18, of this passage. Those that saw, verse 17, they were there when he was raised out of the tomb. Those that didn't see but had heard about it, verse 18, they heard that he had performed that sign. They were there. The streets were lined with people. That wasn't unusual. You know, in the Roman world, it wasn't unusual at all for the emperor and some of his cohorts to make this great chariot ride down through the streets of Jerusalem. Jerusalem was sort of the boot on the heel of Rome. …

What Are You Doing?
Steven Furtick, 2026-03-30

… for you and I. Now, let me read the passage from John chapter 12, verses 12 through 16. Picking up right here, mid-flow, the next day, the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Blessed is the King of Israel. Now, watch what Jesus did, a study in contrast. Here are these loud shouts from the crowd. And Jesus, verse 14, found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written. Do not be afraid, daughter Zion. See your king is coming. Isn't that good news? Your king is coming. Doesn't that bless you to know your king is coming? somebody next to you, the king is coming. See, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt. That's unexpected. Last week, we talked about the staying Jesus. Week one, we talked about the seeking Jesus. This week we're going to talk about the seated Jesus, seated on a donkey's colt. Now, one more verse I want to give you, then you can be seated. This is what I want to talk to you about today. At first, his disciples did not understand all this. Only after… See, some things only make sense after. Only after. Don't worry too much right now about what you don't understand. Some things only make sense after. Only after Jesus was glorified did they …

Your Only Hope
Jack Hibbs, 2026-03-29

… And that's the chapter or the book I've selected for today. And then, of course, John chapter 12, verses 12 to 19. John records it from his eyes. Why is this important? I don't want to get too much into this, except that the Bible says that before two or three witnesses, the truth shall be established. Which, by the way, if you're an attorney, or maybe you're a judge, or maybe you're involved in law, did you know that our jurisprudence of the United States of America is founded upon the biblical requirement of you not being able to be convicted without multiple witnesses? Did you know our founding fathers got that from the scriptures? and God brings it on the stage and says, here are, watch this, here are three eyewitnesses that are going to record the events of other eyewitnesses and I've added a fourth, John's Gospel, and it's a beautiful thing to look at because we love, for example, quadraphonic sound. Remember those days? Some of us are old enough. …

John chapter 12, verses 12 to 19. Hear the word of the Lord. The next day, the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel. And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Zion. Behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt. His disciples did not understand these things at first. But when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. So the Pharisees said to one another, you see that we are gaining nothing. …

Triumph in Christ I Javon Ruff

… heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took palm branches and went out to meet him. They kept shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel. Jesus found a donkey, a young, Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it just as it is written, do not be afraid, daughter of Zion. Look, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt. Now let's jump over to 2 Corinthians chapter 2, verse 14. It says, but thanks be unto God, who always leads us in Christ's triumphal procession and through us spreads the aroma of the knowledge of him in every place. Thanks be unto God who always leads us in Christ's triumphal procession and through us spread the aroma of the knowledge of him in every place. And I'll stop right there. I want to talk to you from these two texts this morning. And if you're taking notes and if you want to give it a title, it's not a real fancy title. …

When It Mattered Most—Jesus Showed Up - Louie Giglio
Louie Giglio, 2025-04-13 · Scripture reading

… The next day, the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches, there's Palm Sunday, and they went out to meet him shouting, Hosanna. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Blessed is the King of Israel. And so not unlike what we've already experienced in our gathering today, there's big praise happening around Jesus. Hosanna, save us is what the word means. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. The king is coming. Blessed is the king of Israel. And they're thinking Passover, miracle worker, Lazarus is alive. This could be a climactic moment where Jesus really does take over as king. But they have no idea what is in the plan and the heart of God. And they have no idea that this king has come to lay his life down. Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it. As it is written, do not be afraid, daughter of Zion. …

What Took You So Long
Jamal Bryant, 2025-04-13 · Scripture reading

You may be seated. I want to preach for a little while today using as a subject what took you so long. what took you so long turn to the person beside and say that's all i want to know yes What took you so long? Adolescents who were raised old school were tutored in the principle and merits of delayed gratification, which is essential for developing self-control. But very few of us, present company included, We're ever introduced to delayed appreciation. That's different from delayed gratification, delayed appreciation. And that is the rare capacity to achieve without affirmation. Delayed appreciation is countercultural because it's delaying the need to feel appreciated. For people with goals, this is hard to gulp in the throat. It's akin to writing a book but popping no cork for completing a chapter. It's launching an online boutique and just selling your first pair of earrings. It's recording a podcast and getting your first 79 views. It's securing your first client even though they can't pay you till the back end. …

God's Via Positiva #7 | Say Amen to Suffering?
Scott Black Johnston, 2025-04-13 · Scripture reading

The next day, the great crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel. Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it. As it is written, Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion. Look, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt. His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, they remembered that these things had been written of him and had been done to him. This is the word of God. For you, the people of God. Thanks be to God. Then they remembered that these things had been written of him and had been done to him. To be human is to know suffering, to experience suffering. To be human is to wrestle with the nature of suffering. For as long as humankind has gathered together in community, we've sat around campfires poking the embers and raising questions about the causes of suffering, the meaning of suffering, the right responses to suffering. …
