… scribes and be killed and be raised up on the third day. He told his apostles, this was the plan. Or look at John 12, verses 32 to 33. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself. But he was saying this to indicate the kind of death by which he was to die. Well, secondly, and I want you to write this down. Jesus' death was the payment for our sins and the ransom for our freedom. His death was the payment for our sins and the ransom for our freedom. The Bible uses two metaphors to describe what Christ's death accomplished for us. First of all, it was a payment for our sin debt. When Jesus hung on the cross, remember some of his final words. John 19 30 were, it is finished. Tetelestai, paid in full. Jesus is the one who has paid our sin debt for us. But secondly, it is a ransom for our freedom. That's another image used in the Bible. …

… things from the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and be raised up on the third day. He told his apostles, this was the plan. Or look at John 12, verses 32 to 33. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself. But he was saying this to indicate the kind of death by which he was to die. Jesus' death was central to his mission. Why was it central? What did it accomplish for me? Secondly, and I want you to write this down, Jesus' death was the payment for our sins and the ransom for our freedom. His death was the payment for our sins and the ransom for our freedom. The Bible uses two metaphors to describe what Christ's death accomplished for us. First of all, it was a payment for our sin debt. Now listen to me. The Bible says every time you and I sin, we go into debt to God. The wages of sin is death. …

… This is John 12, 32. And I, when I'm lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself. he would be lifted up from the earth. First, by being lifted up to the cross. John immediately adds that in verse 33. So his lifting up is a lifting up to the cross that he might save people from every tribe and every tongue and every nation. so make no mistake the joy set before jesus was the joy of love this is important to say this is a piece of it this is part of it sometimes modern christians only say this we don't talk about the father's glory we don't talk about the defeat of satan as much as love love love we love to talk about love in our generation this is real this is important this must be said. Love for his people does, in part, bring him to the cross. John 13, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. …

UP AND DOWN

… voluntarily laid himself on a cross. He was not a victim of circumstance. He did this for you and me. The Bible says in John chapter 12, verse 32, in fact, Jesus speaking, think about up and down again. He said, and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself. Jesus suffered and died. He was arrested for a crime he didn't commit. He was abused, tortured, nailed to a cross, and there he flatlined. He died. There was a lot going on in the cross, one being an amazing exchange. Jesus was our and is our atoning sacrifice. Jesus took the brunt of the justice and the wrath of God on the cross that you deserve and I deserve. He took it. At the same time, God poured out his mercy on us. What is mercy? When we don't get what we deserve. How powerful is that? I mean, there's something inside of us that says, someone's got to pay. Someone's got to pay. …

… the world has a prince, a prince. Who is the prince of this world? Put this scripture down. John chapter 12, verses 31 and 32. Jesus is facing the cross, and this is what Jesus said, Now is the judgment of this world, and now shall the prince of this world be cast out. THE PRINCE OF THIS WORLD. NOW WHO IS THE PRINCE OF THIS WORLD? HE IS SATAN HIMSELF. AND THEN PUT THIS SCRIPTURE DOWN, JOHN 14 AND VERSE 30, JESUS SAID, HEREAFTER I WILL NOT TALK MUCH WITH YOU, FOR THE PRINCE OF THIS WORLD COMETH AND HATH NOTHING IN ME. THAT HATH NOTHING IN ME." THAT IS, HA, THERE'S NOTHING THAT SATAN COULD ACCUSE JESUS OF. AH, THERE'S NO, AH, TEMPTATION THAT, AH, SATAN COULD ALLURE JESUS WITH. JESUS HAD NO ITCH THE DEVIL COULD SCRATCH. JESUS HAD NO WRONG THE DEVIL COULD ACCUSE. THE PRINCE OF THIS WORLD COMETH AND HATH NOTHING IN ME. AND THEN JESUS SPOKE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WHO WOULD COME AND BRING JUDGMENT, AND PUT THIS SCRIPTURE DOWN. IN JOHN CHAPTER 16 VERSE 11, HE SAYS, THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL CONVICT OF JUDGMENT BECAUSE THE PRINCE OF THIS WORLD IS JUDGED. AND IN THESE FEW CHAPTERS, JESUS HAS SPOKEN THREE TIMES OF THE PRINCE OF THIS WORLD. WHO IS THE PRINCE OF THIS WORLD? HIS NAME IS SATAN. NOW JOHN, WHO WROTE THE GOSPEL OF JOHN, ALSO WROTE THE EPISTLES OF JOHN. AND IN FIRST JOHN CHAPTER FIVE AND VERSE 19 HE SAID TO THE BELIEVERS, AND WE KNOW THAT WE …
