… like it dawns on him in a new and fresh and powerful way, recognizes Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things, that God the Father had given all things into his hands. And Matthew, at the end of Matthew, when you read about the Great Commission, we call it the Great Commission, Jesus says, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. And apparently this is the moment when it dawned on Jesus in some new kind of fresh way that all authority, imagine that all authority has been given to him, has been placed in his hands and that he had come from God, had come forth from God and he was going back to God. All authority over all things. It's the picture, it's like God the Father said, here are the keys and I'm going back inside. Do with them what you will. Here's all power and all authority, hands off. Do with it what you will. And the very next move he makes, it's not even a break in the sentence structure. …
… at this time first the reality of the cross his hour had come second the will of the father verse 3 the father had given all things into his hands nothing had been held back and third the security of his destiny he knew that he had come from the father and he would go back to the father if ever a man had a reason to be proud jesus did and i don't mean that to sound the wrong way he had accomplished the father's will no other human being on earth can die with that sense of reality he had never once been contaminated by sin never once had he failed because of carnality He came to his last hours in perfect obedience. And if there was ever a time to dispatch the angels to display his glory, that was the hour, but he didn't do it. That's what made him great, you see. At his greatest hour, he's washing feet. You want to be Christ-like in your growth toward maturity? …
… lack, but also not just no lack, it's a world of extreme abundance. That is the world you're connected to. I want you to look at this passage in John 13 again. Verse 3, Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God, was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside his garments. Jesus was conscious of two things before he put the towel over his arm and washed feet. He was aware, number one, he had access to unlimited resources. The Father had given all things into his hands. It's more than a point of theology. Jesus lived conscious of unlimited resources. It includes money, but I'm actually not even talking about money. That's a part of the world, but it's so much bigger than that. he lived aware of two things. Number one, unlimited resources. As a son, he had access to the father's kingdom. And he says the father had given him all things. Interestingly, John 16, Jesus says, all things, all that the father has is mine. …
Scripture reading comes from John chapter 13 verses 1 through 17. Hear these words. and now before the festival of Passover Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and to go to the father having loved his own who were in the world he loved them to the end now the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot, to betray him. And so during supper, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, he got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself. and then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples feet and to wipe them with the towel that he had tied around himself then he came to Simon Peter who said to him Lord are you going to wash my feet and Jesus answered him you do not know now what I am doing but later later you will understand and Peter said to him you will never wash my feet and Jesus answered well unless I wash you you have no share with me Simon Peter said to him well Lord not only then my feet but also my hands and my head and Jesus said to him one who has bathed does not need to wash except for the feet, but is entirely clean. And you are clean, though not all of you. …
… verse 3, John 13, Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God. Okay, just stop right there because I just need to talk about that first part first. This is the only place I know of. It's probably all through the New Testament. It just never clicked for me until this verse. This is the one place I know of where it describes what Jesus is thinking. you know, we see his actions, we see all these things that he does, but this is one moment where it says, here's what he's thinking. Jesus knowing. Jesus conscious of two things. Number one, everything is his. Everything. The billions of galaxies, all mine. Every realm of authority, principalities, powers, everything that exists, all his. Past, present, future, all his. Everything in existence is his. Now see, as the son of God, it was already his. But he laid it down to become a man. And now he's re-inheriting everything as the son of man. …
