… Greater works than these he will do because I go to the Father. And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it. Look at verse 13 again. You ask anything in my name that I will do that the Father may be glorified in the Son. Your answers to prayer bring God glory. Your answers to prayer bring God glory. Just imagine with me the angelic realm that beholds humanity and the crash and burn that took place in the garden and people growing with this vile opposition to God and then watch Jesus come and suffer a brutal death in our place and redeem people. Just think about the angelic realm that watches these people who are transformed and then they have their way with God where they pray and God actually responds. The God of the universe responds to these broken individuals that were redeemed. You can imagine the entire angelic realm is stunned by what you experience and I experience on a daily basis. …

… of God, what you're asking. Y'all got that? That's an important point. Here's John, chapter 14, verse 13 and 14. It says, whatever you ask in my name, whatever you ask in my name, and that term my name means whatever you ask according to my character, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. I like that right there. God wants to get all the glory. If you ask anything in my name, he says, according to my character, he says, I will do it. God says he will respond if you ask. Because some of the stuff y'all ask is not in line with his character. It's not in the character of God for you to be asking him for somebody else's husband. There's tension in the room. Somebody has tension. Amen. It's not aligned with his character. Here's number three. We must base our appeal on guarding God's reputation. We must make our request based on, or our appeal to God, based on guarding God's reputation. …

Tranquil Words for Troubled Hearts │ Msg 13/14

… Greater works than these shall he do because I go to the Father. And whatever you ask in my name, that will I do. That the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. Fantastic verses, huh? But we have misread them. You know how we read them? We read these verses to say, whatever you want, I'll give you. Just name it. So you walk out of this place, sit down in your 1937 pickup. You think, man, it's about time I get a new car. So you say, God, I'd like a Mercedes waiting for me in the driveway when I get home. So you drive home, turn the corner, and there's your driveway. not a blessed thing in sight but concrete so you wonder what kind of a god is that said i could ask anything and he'd give it to me or you know you you're you're pressed financially and you think as you walk out the door lord i'd like to have a financial windfall just dump it on me anywhere you please i'll be happy to take it preferably all at once and you say to him i'm ready i'm asking that and I'm waiting for it. Nothing happens. The first rolls around, you don't have your money. …

16 Ounces To The Pound - Jonathan Pickens
Jonathan Pickens, 2025-12-18

… Because I'm going to the Father. whatever you ask in my name I will do it so that the father may be glorified in the son if you ask me anything in my name I will do it this is one of those texts that when you're studying for me at least to preach I've just got to kind of look myself in the mirror and be like do I believe this like what are you serious Jesus greater works raising people from the dead healing people with leprosy. Like, do you believe that? Like, I have actually been wrestling this week. Like, do I believe this? And yes, absolutely. But we gotta ask the question, what does he mean by it? Because it doesn't get much better than raising people from the dead. What could Jesus possibly mean by greater works? I think he means greater works in both quantity and quality. Quantity in that because he's going to the father, he now can establish the power that he has in himself to us as his people to walk with him. …

Can You See Him?
John K. Jenkins Sr., 2025-09-08

… And then he said in verse 13 and 14, and whatever you ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. And if you ask anything in my name, I will do it. I love that. Jesus is saying he's a prayer answering God. He answers prayer. He's a prayer answering God. Look at your neighbor and say, God answers prayer. but when we get to verse 19 now I'm going into my message this is my point I want to show you right here right now some of y'all gonna get this some of y'all gonna want to what did he talk about Jesus says in verse 19, this is a strange statement. He says, a little while longer and the world will see me no more. But you will see me. Because I live, you will live also. Now, this is a strange statement Jesus makes. He says, the world won't see me, but you'll see me. Matter of fact, it is such a strange question. …

The Worship of Prayer (Matthew 6:9-10)
John MacArthur, 2023-06-18

John 14, 13, you have this promise. whatever you ask in my name that will i do so that the father may be glorified in the son if you ask me anything in my name i will do it when your prayers are worshipful prayers you're lining up with the will of god and you'll see His glorious answer. Our Father, we give you glory and praise for even allowing us to have access into your presence and to carry our hearts' cries before you. But we know that when we pray the right way, they're not selfish. We're not praying that we may have something for our own pleasure. It's for your pleasure, for your glory, for the exaltation of your name, the advancement of your kingdom, and the achievement of your will. All that matters is you be glorified, you be exalted, that your kingdom advance in its fullness, and that your perfect and righteous will be done. Lord, show us what marvelous communion such prayer provides. that we come to you as a loving Father, and you want us to love your purposes, not our own, your enterprise, your work, your kingdom. …

… divine purpose continually pray. And they pray in the frame of John 14, 13 and 14, whatever you ask in My name, that will I do that the Father may be glorified in the Son. In other words, you're praying with the objective of the glory of God. And then the next verse says if you ask in His name, He'll answer. Why? To put His glory on display. That's another critical part of prayer, God, whatever glorifies You, I want Your glory. Like the martyrs in the book of Revelation who say, How long, O Lord, how long are You going to allow this dishonor and blasphemy of Your name? Now, Paul says in verse 18, pray at all times, and he uses a term here that just means don't stop, just keep it up, keep it going forward, steadfast, constant, enduring, strong, earnest and persistent prayer. There's a couple of good illustrations of that in the gospel of Luke. I'll show you two of them. First one is in the 18th chapter of Luke. …
