… So if I had to put a title under these thoughts, it would be Help is on the Way. And I am in John chapter 14, verses 25 through 26. Jesus is talking to the disciples. He's preparing them for a time when he will no longer be walking with them the way that he is. He says many things to them. If you read through 14 and 15, there's many things there. And the word is rich. you should read all of it. But for the sake of our time together and before we take communion, there's something in particular here that I want to highlight. In verse 24, Jesus tells the disciples, these things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Lord, we need a reminder. in the midst of uncertainty, in the midst of trials and tribulations. …
… In fact, let me read it in the full context. John chapter 14, verse 25 begins this way. These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. He's getting ready to leave, go back to heaven. But the helper, that is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I've said to you. Peace, I leave with you. Church, did you hear that? He not only said it to the 12, he's saying it to us now. Peace, I leave with you. My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. I'm not going to give you some rubber band recall type of yo-yo peace. Nope. The peace I give sticks. By the way, it sticks in your heart, sticks in your mind. And he says, let not your heart be troubled. That word, let not your heart experience seismology, seismos. Don't let an earthquake happen in your heart emotionally, mentally, spiritually. Neither let it be afraid. …
… And perhaps you can see this very clearly in one biblical text, a place like John 14.25. In John 14.25, Jesus spoke of the Father. When he speaks of the Father, he says the Father will send the Holy Spirit. The Father will send the Holy Spirit to God's people, But how will he send the Holy Spirit? He will send the Holy Spirit through the Son's name. So from the Father, through the Son, in the Spirit. But here's the beauty of the way the Trinity personally comes to us. Our relationship with the Trinity retraces that very pattern that I just described. The Spirit is sent to indwell our hearts. And as the Spirit indwells our hearts, he's communicating God's love and wisdom. In Galatians, the Spirit is called the Spirit of the Son. And so what does that cause us to do? He, the Spirit, leads us in the Son to call on Abba, Father. And so the retracing from the Father through the Son in the Spirit, then the Spirit lifting us up, uniting us with Christ, and then through Christ we call on the Father. …
