… He's given signs to unbelievers, the signs of Jesus Christ. In John 20, verses 30 to 31, the Bible says, Therefore, many other signs Jesus performed in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book, but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that believing you may have life in his name. Not many people are saved through signs, but some are. But sometimes these signs are for people of faith to have greater faith. And that's why God gives them a divine invasion. In these next weeks, I hope you'll be encouraged to ask God to intervene in your life in a miraculous way. For the next four weeks, we're going to look at the four kinds of miracles. Miracles of power, of provision, of protection, miracles of physical restoration. Then in the sixth message, we're going to talk about what to do when your miracle doesn't come. And finally, we're going to look at how to authenticate genuine from fake miracles. …
… have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believed. And truly, this is John now, truly, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name. Let's pray. Lord, we welcome you here. we thank you for your living word. We thank you that you rose from the dead and here eight days later, we're celebrating the most important moment in human history that you were once dead and are now alive. God, we ask that you animate us today, fill us with your Holy Spirit and send us out with your gospel on our lips and in our hands. We pray this in Jesus' name, amen. As I was preparing for this message, and I say four because I felt like I had like, I was telling my wife this, I feel like I have a, like a lot of raw material, like in the backyard, but I don't know what to, didn't know what to do with it. It was like, I'm honored to be invited to preach and share the word together. But I'm also like, but what do I say? What do I do? You know? And knowing that it was Thomas Sunday, that was kind of in my heart and in my head and just visiting with a friend. They expressed, they had gone on a walk with a friend and …
… Because Jesus said so. In John chapter 21, Jesus is making those men the first priests and saying, no, you actually have my power. You have my ability to bring mercy to the world, to forgive sins. If you don't, they're retained. If you do, they're gone. That's why I'm going to say that today, your next confession is the exercise that your soul and my soul needs. that your next confession is the exercise that your soul and my soul needs. And I mean this for everyone. From the person who is convinced that they're beyond God's reach to the person who is absolutely convinced they're a genuinely, quote unquote, good person. Because that's maybe a lot of us. We're like, no, but I'm okay. Like, why would I have to go to confession? Like, I go to mass. Like, I help. Like, if you're back at your parish. Like, at Easter, I was back home for Easter and like, they knew I was there. So like, hey, get back up, you know. …
… The signs in John's gospel show us who Jesus is and what he came to do, which is what we're talking about in this collection. John tells us that pretty plainly in John chapter 20, verses 30 and 31. He says, Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. That's a pretty awesome thought. There was a whole lot of miracles that Jesus did that we don't have in this book. We got a lot of them, but we don't have all of them. Why? Because there's no book big enough, no library big enough to contain them all. And then in verse 31, he says, but these are written that you may believe. Do you see that word? Can we just say that word together? These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. The signs exist to reveal the glory of God, to display to us what matters most. So let's jump in to John chapter 11 together, beginning in verse one. We'll take a few verses at a time. We'll kind of work our way through. It says, now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. This Mary, there was a lot of Mary, so to clarify, this Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair. …
… me blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book but these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah the son of God and that through believing you may have life in Jesus's name this is the word of God for the people of God thanks be to God Lately, my friends, I've been trying to get around this giant city without a map. No map, no Google Maps either. I've lived here less than two years, so this is a daunting task, but there are some transit lines and some pockets of neighborhoods that I know well enough that I can go with no map for a little while. I've been trying to challenge myself to break out of that bubble of looking down at my iPhone to tell me where to go. Do you know this? Do you know this feeling? …
… Jesus, verse 30, And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name. All right, here's the deal. If any of you were interested in doing a very interesting study, take the Gospel of John and look at every time there was an expression of faith or the word belief or believe. And you will find there was two primary targets in the Gospel of John. One is to reveal the Father. Secondly was to stir up, ignite, and anchor faith in this Father. Faith is just our heart's response to him being who he claims to be. It's us saying we believe that it's authentic, it's genuine, you are as good as you say, and so we put our trust in the revelation of your nature. that's faith, faith is responding to who he is. …
