… dark and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple. Now the other disciple is John, the one who's writing this firsthand account of what happened. And he went to the other disciple also. She went to the other disciple also. And then he kind of clarifies the one Jesus loved and said to them, they've taken the Lord out of the tomb and we do not know where they have laid him. So Peter went out with the other disciple, John, the one writing this, and they were going toward the tomb. Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. Check. And stooping to look in, he saw the linen clothes lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came following him and went into the tomb, he saw the linen clothes lying there and the face cloth which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded up in a place by itself. …

Your Only Hope – Part 4
Jack Hibbs, 2026-04-05 · Scripture reading

… They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and did not know where they were. Peter, therefore, went out, and the other disciple, that is John, the author of this particular gospel, and were going to the tomb. So they both ran together, and the other side of Father and Peter, and he did the two first. John's very big on telling everybody that he's the faster of the two. And he, stooping down, looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there, yet he did not go in. This is important, everyone. And the handkerchief that had been around his head, Jesus' head, not lined with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself. For as yet they did not know the scripture, or they were not understanding, that he must rise again from the dead. Then the disciples were to wake into their own homes. And verse 11 says, But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she stooped down and looked into the tomb. …

… Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. That's hilarious that John points out for all history that Peter was slow and he was fast. I beat you and I'm writing it down, inspired by the spirit forever. So anyway, then watch this, stooping to look in. So John saw the linen cloths lying there, but he didn't go in. Then Simon Peter came following him and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded up in a place by itself. Did you notice that? Three different times, there's an emphasis on what kind of cloths? Linen cloths. Three different times. It's like John's trying to tell us something. And he specifically tells us that they're folded up. What's going on here? Like John is telling us, Jesus didn't just die and rose again. That would have been sufficient. John is telling us Jesus died, rose again, and he made his bed. …

God's Good Design in Humanity

… Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. That's kind of funny that John points out for all history that Peter was slow and he was fast. Is this not like sibling rivalry? Like, I beat you. Just want to write it down for everybody to talk about for history. So anyway, they get there, stooping to look in. John saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came following him and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded up in a place by itself. Well, that's interesting. Three times there's a focus on what kind of cloth? linen cloths. It's like John's trying to tell us something, and he specifically tells us they're folded up. Why? Why is he? It would have been sufficient to tell us Jesus died and rose again. …

God's Via Positiva #9 | Say Amen to Life
Scott Black Johnston, 2025-04-21 · Scripture reading

… Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb and we do not know where they've laid him. Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple who reached the tomb first also went in and he saw and believed. …
