Second Sunday of Easter
Rev. Werner Ramirez, 2026-04-12 · Scripture reading

do you all know the mission statement of our church maybe some our mission statement is we will be christ light leaven and salt in new york city and beyond we will be christ light leaven and salt in new york city and beyond and i love our mission statement it does a really great job of embodying who we are here at fifth avenue presbyterian church from beautiful worship to Christian education for all ages, to pastoral care, to outreach in New York City, and internationally, it's catchy, it's biblical, Christ's light, leaven, and salt. Now prior to coming here at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, I was a co-pastor at a small United Methodist church in New Jersey while I was in seminary, and their mission statement was catchy as well. It only had three words, feed more sheep. Feed more sheep. And honestly, it meant a lot of different things to different people. Sometimes it meant literally feeding the hungry. Sometimes it meant feeding our souls through worship and preaching. …

Love Steps In
Sarah Jakes Roberts, 2025-08-28 · Scripture reading

Follow me. Lord, I want to follow you in this message. You gave me a word. I felt it in my spirit. I feel it so strong. And yet I don't know how you're going to release it, but I'm just grateful that you are allowing me to partner with you in this moment. So God, I pray that you would remove any doubt, any fear, any anxiety, any nerves that would prohibit me from partnering effectively with you. And God, I'm praying that you would fill me with love for your people, that they would experience your love through me, that that love would settle them, change them, and transform them, and then that they would multiply that love in all that they do. Let your love step in and take over. In Jesus' name I pray. …

When Jesus gives no explanation, just an invitation, follow me. It's after the resurrection, Jesus is meeting with three of his disciples on this appearance, as he often did with these three, Peter, James, and John. And John being the disciple whom Jesus loved, I don't understand, I don't know, Well, you can say what you want to say. The scripture is very clear. He often pulled these three aside from the other disciples. He often shared things and insights and teachings with them that he did not share with the others. And he asked Simon, do you love me? Do you love me? Do you love me? He said, yes, I do. Then he said, then feed my sheep. Do what I put you on this earth to do. Take the word and feed the sheep. And he said, but when you grow old, they're going to tie your hands and they're going to lead you where you don't want to go down a path that you would never choose to go down. …

The Glory of Big-God Preaching
John Piper, 2025-04-09

… If we die, we die to the Lord. And if they must be martyred, you take them to John 21 19 and listen as Jesus shows Peter, by what death he will glorify God. Do they respond to your big God theology, which seems to be seeping out every week? Pastor, what about man? Doesn't man count? Doesn't man have great dignity? and then you take them to Psalm 8. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. You have set your glory above the heavens. Verse 4, O Lord, our Lord, what is man that you are mindful of him and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. And then the last verse of the psalm. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. And you ask them, you read that to them, you point out one, nine, four. …
