… That would be 12 o'clock noon. And a woman of Samaria came to draw water. And Jesus said to her, give me a drink. For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Then the woman of Samaria said to him, how is it that you, being a Jew, would ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman? For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. And Jesus answered and said to her, if you knew the gift of God, and who it is that says to you, give me a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water. This is a perfect example of how to build a bridge to a person. Now this was an immoral woman, as the story reveals. She had been married and divorced five times since she was living with some guy at the moment. This is a woman who was ostracized from the rest of the community. She would not have been an educated woman. She didn't know what the Bible said. …

… overhead, you can see all the way down. I think this special illumination is being signaled here. So, we hear, a woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, give me a drink. Very interesting now. So, the Samaritan woman is going to stand for all of us. What are we all seeking? Life. We're seeking joy. We're seeking peace. Think of the well as a symbol of our quest for what will satisfy us. Who's there? Jesus is already there as she comes seeking water. It's a basic New Testament principle, everybody. Jesus says, it's not you who've chosen me, I've chosen you. If we're seeking life, it's because in a way life has already found us. Don't think that Jesus is up there, out there, playing hard to get with us. No, no, the opposite. He's seeking us. He's after us. He's there to meet us as we go seeking him, even in the wrong way. Now, watch how it unfolds. His first move is to say to her, give me a drink. …

… hour is one of them. When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, will you give me a drink? His disciples had gone into the town to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, you are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink for Jews do not associate with Samaritans? And Jesus answered her, if you knew the gift of God, I just want to underscore this today. What God is wanting for you in 2026 is to give you a gift. Because he's a giver and not a taker. He doesn't need anything that you have. he can do everything that you can do by himself what he wants to do in 2026 is to give you of himself things that are better for you now you you may have to drop some other things by the wayside for that to happen, but primarily he is about giving a gift to you. If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him, talking about himself, and he would have given you living water. Now, just another thing to footnote here, Jesus is in a zone of ministry where he's trying to keep his identity on the down low. …

… And so we're told that He came to this city called Sychar, near that piece of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. When Jacob gave his patriarchal blessing to all of the sons, it is mentioned at the end of the book of Genesis that this parcel of real estate was given to Joseph. And this was a very important piece of land because it contained this ancient site, this well that had been dug by Jacob so many years before. Now keep in mind that when Jesus meets this woman now by Jacob's well, almost 2,000 years have transpired from the time that that well was dug by Jacob, and now this woman is there at that same well still drinking from it 2,000 years later. If that's not exciting, if you've ever been over there to Israel, maybe you've gone to that same site as I have that is right at the base of Mount Gerizim, and that same well is still there today, and the water still flows freely in it. So that well has been meeting the needs of people for 4,000 years. And so after the first 2,000 of those 4,000 years, it was considered something of a sacred site by people who trace their roots back to the Old Testament patriarchs. …
