… without Christ, we're in trouble. John chapter 6, verse 35 and 7. And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst. All that the Father gives me will come to me. That's active, friend. And the one who comes to me, I will by no means cast out. Valley of decision. Ephesians chapter 2. And you, speaking to the Christian, he made alive who were dead in trespasses and sins. It means we lived to sin. We lived to satisfy ourselves. In which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, Satan, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lust of the flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind and were by nature children of wrath, just as others. But God, who is rich in mercy because of his great love wherewith he loved us, even while we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ. …

Bread Delivered from Heaven │ Msg 2/14
Chuck Swindoll, 2026-07-07 · Scripture reading

… life now and life later verse 48 I am the bread of life Now verse 52. Let's take 51, where the Lord says, I am the living bread that came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever. And the bread also which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh. they answered how can this man give us his flesh to eat they wrestled with cannibalism, to be very frank and not trying to be humorous. That's literally what they thought. He said, God has given my flesh, and if you eat of it, you will live forever. How can he give us his flesh, was their response. Jesus answers, truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life. The Amplified Bible does a splendid job of paraphrasing that. Unless you appropriate his life and the saving merit of his blood, you cannot have life in yourselves. …

… and truth Jesus said in John 6.35 or John wrote in John 6.35 I am the bread of life whoever comes to me will not hunger and whoever believes in me shall never thirst so coming to Jesus to eat unto soul satisfaction and believing in Jesus to drink unto soul satisfaction is faith. That's what believing is. Believing is a coming to Jesus as the all satisfying fountain of water and living bread. It is the revelation of the glory of God in Jesus that is what our souls were made for. And only he will satisfy that. Not life and not health. Christ, God, his glory is what will satisfy the soul. And therefore, whatever Jesus has to do in order to satisfy your soul with him above health, with him above life, that's love. That's what love is. there are two great purposes that God has evidently in the world in the universe in creating and running the world two great purposes one is the demonstration the display of his glory he made the world to show his glory and the other is that we might see it and savor it and treasure it above everything. …

… from heaven and gives life to the world. Sir, they said, always give us this bread. And then Jesus declared, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry. And whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. I am the bread of life. Our daily bread is Jesus. And it's making that leap from the thing he taught us to the one who taught us. From the thing that we heard him say to the one who actually is saying it. it's taking the step from the information into a relationship with Jesus he quoted Deuteronomy when tempted in the wilderness and he said man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes out of the mouth of the Lord and what he's inviting you to today what he's inviting me into today is not just to get the nugget, but to get Jesus. and that's I think somehow what we've ended up with in our culture is we're transactional people who want to tell everybody what we heard learned or saw versus actually experiencing Jesus and savoring him for who he is and yeah maybe sharing that a little bit later but that's not my first thought was, wow, I got to post that. My first thought was, I want to linger with you. …

The True Bread From Heaven - Grant Partrick
Grant Partrick, 2025-12-22

… it's one long, beautiful, clear sermon from Jesus. It contains the first of the seven I am statements which is what we're going to look at today, found in John 6, verse 35. This really is our key verse. We're going to read a lot of other scripture, but let's just start with the key verse for the day, John 6, 35. We're going to put it up on screen. I'd love for you to read it with me if we could do that, just a little bit of participation today. This is in red letter. Jesus says in John 6, verse 35, here we go. I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. Jesus says, I am the bread of life. Now, most of these 71 verses are about bread. And the word bread doesn't mean the same thing in our context today as it meant to those who were listening to Jesus in the first century. …

… transformative in the way I think about faith. So John 6, verse 35, shows that Jesus is the eternally satisfying bread. He's the eternally satisfying water. water. Now if you just stop and think about bread and water, this is not the Lord's Supper. Just put that aside. Don't get mixed up with that. This is water, not wine and not fruit of the vine. This is water and bread. Water and bread are fluid and nourishment. You just die if you don't have either of them. Right? If you don't have fluid, you die. If you don't have nourishment, you die. That's true of eternal life. But you just have to ask, okay, to have eternal life, you've got to have the right fluid and the right nourishment. And what is it? It's Jesus. That's what he's saying. So let's read chapter 6, verse 35. I am the bread of life. There it is. Whoever comes to me shall not hunger. And whoever believes in me shall never thirst. …

Show the Word
David Platt, 2025-10-29

… Moses says, who will tell them sent me? And God says, tell them I am sent me. That was his name. Think about how that is up close and personal in the book of John. John chapter 6, verse 35, Jesus says, I am the bread of life to those who are hungry. To the blind in John chapter 8, verse 12, he says, I am the light of the world. To those who were hurting in John chapter 10, he said, I am the good shepherd who cares for his people. In John chapter 11, verse 25, he says to Lazarus, I am the resurrection and the life. John chapter 14, he says to the disciples wondering, are we going to get lost in the shuffle? And he says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. Jesus was God up close and personal to these guys. You want to see a picture of the goodness, the grace, the mercy of God, you see it in the face of Jesus. And he didn't reveal it in some glowing, just one moment, here's my splendor. What he did is over a process of three years with these guys, he continually, on a day-by-day basis, revealed God and his character up close and personal to them. Now here's the problem. You get down to verse 11, and it says, Jesus says, I will remain in the world no longer. …

God’s Pursuit: His Glory in Our Joy
David Mathis, 2025-10-11

… and Jesus says to you right now in John 6 35 I am the bread of life whoever comes to me shall not hunger and whoever believes in me shall never thirst like father like son The father plays street vendor in Isaiah 55, and the son is a street vendor in John 6 and 7. And you know what? The Bible ends with the voice of the street vendor. This is really amazing. This helps confirm how significant this theme is. This is not marginal. This is not a marginal emphasis this weekend. This is where the Bible ends in Revelation chapter 22, verse 17. Right? Let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who desires take the water of life without price. Channeling the prophet Isaiah. Jesus satisfies the longing soul already in measure and one day in full. He is living water for your thirst, true bread for your hunger, milk for your strength, wine for joy, and all without cost because he himself paid it. …

I'll be reading this morning from John 6, beginning at verse 35, reading through verse 51. And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall never hunger. He who believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. And this is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me, I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have everlasting life, and I will raise him up at the last day." The Jews then complained about him because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. …

… down from heaven and gives life to the world. And then they said to him, Lord, give us that bread always. And He said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. We're going to stop at that point, finish the text, God willing, next week. But we'll stop there, and so you may be seated for now. One of the reasons why we take vows, as we did this morning upon joining the church, is because sometimes we have to buttress our promises with sacred commitments because as fallen creatures we are by nature covenant breakers and we are taught by the Word of God that all men are liars. There is no exception to that. So I have to confess to you this morning that when we started this study of John's gospel, I said to you I would not be looking at every verse of this gospel, would be covering the highlights, and I lied. I realized this week that I had intended to pass over this brief passage that records the miracle of Christ of walking on the water. …
