… because some of y'all really think that more is more, but when you put God in the middle of it, less is more. I'm getting excited. John chapter six, verse five, it says, Jesus saw that there was a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. He turned to Philip and he asked, hey, Phil where can we buy bread to feed all of these people he was testing Philip for he already knew what he was gonna do this gets me so excited because many of the things God is asking you to do don't really even got nothing to do with where you accept where your heart is at because when he asked you he already knows what he's gonna do before the fish and the loaves were found he knew he was about to work a miracle he knew that he was gonna take whatever was around whatever was available and he's about to feed all of these people, but he's looking. Can I test you? …

… With your Bibles open, please join me as I read John's words from chapter 6, verses 1-15. Again, John 6, verses 1-15. And then locate Mark 6, verse 45, and I'll read verses 45-52 as we read the account of Jesus walking on the water from that passage. I'll give you a moment to find both. John 6, verse 1, and then Mark 6, verse 45, where you'll put your finger as we turn back to John 6, 1 to 15. And remember, I'll be reading from the New Living Translation. After this, Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. A huge crowd kept following him wherever he went because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick. Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration. Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, Where can we buy bread to feed all these people? …

The True Bread From Heaven - Grant Partrick

… Verse 4, the Jewish Passover festival was near. When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, where shall we buy bread for these people to eat? He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. That's every time Jesus asked a question. Luke, who always gives us more of the details, tells us that the place where this took place is in Bethsaida. And we know from John chapter 1, verse 44, that Philip and Peter and Andrew were from Bethsaida. And I think that's probably why Philip and Andrew are on display here. I think that's why Jesus asked the question to Philip, where are we going to get bread for all these people? This is on their turf. It's where they grew up. It's their hometown. They knew the markets and the shops. And Philip answered him, it would take more than half a year's wages to buy enough bread for each one of them to have a bite. …

Does God Really Care? | Jentezen Franklin

… he was concerned about their need for food and drink. And verse 5, then Jesus lifted up his eyes and seeing a great multitude coming toward him, He said to Philip, where shall we buy bread that these may eat? Now listen to this part. But he said this to test him. For he himself knew what he would do. I have never quite seen that line like that, that he put a challenge out to his disciples. There's thousands of hungry people, 5,000 men plus women plus children, easily 15,000 people. And they all need something to eat. And one of the disciples spoke up to the challenge that Jesus had presented them with. And he said, well, Lord, if we had 200 days wages, because that's what he's when he said, if we had 200 penny worth, which was 200 days wages, it wouldn't be enough to buy even small morsels of bread. Jesus, he did this. He asked him. He put a challenge before him to test him, to prove him. …

We continue this morning with our study of the gospel according to St. John, and this morning we will begin our study of the sixth chapter, which is one of the most important chapters of the entire gospel. So our lesson this morning is from John chapter 6, verses 1 through 14, and here we have John's record of the feeding of the 5,000. After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. And then a great multitude followed Him because they saw His signs, which He performed on those who were diseased. And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. And then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, Where shall we buy bread that these may eat? But this He said to test Him, for he himself knew what he would do. And Philip answered him, Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little. …
