Because you can’t hear my word. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Why do ye not understand my speech? Even because ye cannot hear my word.

… Either I surrender or I fight. Now, that's the way we find Jesus in this crowd that surrounded him in John chapter 8, verses 12 to 59. He is not around a crowd that had never heard of God. I want to make that clear. He is in a context of religion. As a matter of fact, one of the three great festivals of the year is where he was at the time he spoke the words of John 8, the Feast of Tabernacles. Remember the other time that he brought a sword? He said, Are any of you thirsty? Come to me and drink. They were pouring out the water from that sacred vessel on that sacred altar, and he said, Wait a minute! Let me tell you where real water is. It's in me, and you come to me, you'll never thirst again. Oh, that was a sword. And it started an argument that still hasn't ceased. Now, he comes to this place called the treasury, according to verse 20 of chapter 8. …
… but they didn't know God. In John chapter 8, verse 43, listen to this. Why do you not understand my speech, Jesus said, because you are not able to listen to my word. The word implies that they had their ears plugged with the world, plugged up. Can you imagine stuff hanging out of your ear? Now Lisa and I, it's kind of funny, we're going through this age of our lives where, what did you say? I didn't say anything. It's so funny. I hear her when she's not speaking. And when she's speaking, I don't hear her. But it's mutual. She'll say, what did you say? I didn't say anything. No, I think you did. No, I didn't. Well, you did. You just forgot. Growing old in Jesus is awesome. There's grace. You have to use grace. But, um... it's part of us having to train ourselves to listening. And the great thing about getting old, it's so great. I want you young people, I want to encourage you, as you get older, you actually, from your vantage point, you actually start looking better in the mirror. …
… God. And Jesus said to them, if God were your father, you would love me, for I proceedeth forth and came from God. Nor have I come of myself, but he sent me. Why do you not understand my speech, because you're not able to listen to my word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. And when he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell you the truth, you do not believe me. Which of you convicts me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? He who is of God hears God's words. Therefore, you do not hear because you are not of God. He who has ears to hear the word of God, let them hear. …
