His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that he was the Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue. Therefore his parents said, he is of age, ask him. So again, they again called the man who was blind and said to him, give God the glory. We know that this man is a sinner. Chuck Swindoll, 2026-07-07

… That's why his parents responded with fear. His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews. For the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should confess him to be the Messiah, he should be put out of the synagogue. There you have it. Now the man came before the Pharisees and said, he's a prophet. No question in my mind. They didn't like that. Verse 18 says, the Jews did not believe it of him that he had been blind. Question number two. How does he see? Question number three. Look at the answers. They cop out because of fear. Parents answered question number one. We know this is our son. Question number two. He was born blind. Question number three. Well, we don't know. Now, will you just pause a moment and consider the threat of the Pharisee? …

Harding, president from 1921 to 1923. And apparently Warren G. Harding was a decent human being. but at the same time in the years since he's since he was president he has been consistently on the list of worst presidents that we've ever had and and apparently Warren G. Harding even thought this about himself there's a quote that he he said about himself he said I am not fit for this office and never should have been here so how did Warren G. Harding get elected if he wasn't fit for the office. He wasn't competent for the office. And even he said, I'm not competent for the office. How did he get elected? So Malcolm Gladwell wrote a book about the, well, he wrote a book a number of years ago called Blink. And in it, he tells the story. And this is his perspective. …

I'd like to preach today from sermon topic, overcoming old news. Overcoming old news. Before I came to seminary, I worked in television. and before that, I got my master's in journalism. There was a time in my life when I either wanted to be on camera reporting the news or I wanted to be a journalist writing the news for my community. And about eight or nine years ago, I remember this time, I remember this time, Pastor Wesley, where the key was to go to these events and town hall events and find the story. …

You may be seated. our Father and our God give us eyes to see and ears to hear this manifestation of the person and work of your only begotten Son in whose name we pray Amen Last Sunday morning, we looked at the account of Jesus healing the man born blind and considered some of the important theological issues that related to it. …
