He answered, “Whether He is a sinner I do not know. There is one thing I do know: I was blind, but now I see!”He therefore answered, “I don’t know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see.”He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

… You see, though we were blind, through Christ we now see. We see that here in John 9, verse 25. Though we were lost, through Christ we have been found. We see that in Luke 15, 6, amongst other places. Though we were separated from God through Christ, we are now near to God. Ephesians 2.13 Though we were enemies of God through Christ, we are now children of God. Romans 5.10, 1 John 3.1 Though we were dead through Christ, we are now alive. Ephesians 2.1 Though we were filthy through Christ, we are now clean. Spotless. And that's all. But we could keep going on this, right? That though we were, now we are. We were all blind. We are all a bunch of formerly blind people. Who have been healed. Who have been enlightened. but you know i guess i'm making a general statement and i shouldn't do that because maybe tonight there are some in here who are still blind because you haven't come to christ what are you waiting for there was surely a lot that this man did not know no theological training of any sort no experience to fall back upon prior to his healing but one thing he knew jesus made him see but of course that's not enough for the pharisees they don't give up at that they continue to ask him about how jesus healed him And at this point, the man is like, what are you doing? …
… ask him. So they come the second time to the man and they say, give glory to God. we know this man is a sinner he answered therefore whether he is a sinner i do not know one thing i do know whereas i was blind now i see may i clarify at this point two things first he doesn't know the man who healed him personally and second therefore he is still spiritually blind. Remember that. He does not know if Jesus was a sinner or a saint. He was a man who came, whose name was Jesus, and he gave him sight. And second, therefore, he was not what we would call born again at this point. So he honestly says, Look, I don't know anything except I was blind. Now I'm able to see. and they said therefore to him verse 26 what did he do to you how did he open your eyes now about this time you're getting weary of hearing the same question and the man was too so I want you to look at how he twists the sword 27 he answered them I already told you and you did not listen why do you want to hear it again you don't want to become one of his disciples too, do you? Twist, twist, twist. You get it? Are you interested? Come on. …
So our 23rd president, 23rd president of the United States is a man named Warren G. Harding. He was president, sorry, 29th president of the United States. It was Warren G. Harding, president from 1921 to 1923. And apparently Warren G. Harding was a decent human being. but at the same time in the years since he's since he was president he has been consistently on the list of worst presidents that we've ever had and and apparently Warren G. Harding even thought this about himself there's a quote that he he said about himself he said I am not fit for this office and never should have been here so how did Warren G. Harding get elected if he wasn't fit for the office. He wasn't competent for the office. And even he said, I'm not competent for the office. How did he get elected? So Malcolm Gladwell wrote a book about the, well, he wrote a book a number of years ago called Blink. And in it, he tells the story. And this is his perspective. …
… a second time they summoned the man who had been blind give glory to god by telling the truth they said we know that this man is a sinner and he replied whether he is a sinner or not i do not know but one thing i do know i was blind but now i see your platform is wherever you make a difference. It's where you make a difference. I was in, um, Palm Desert, as I said, and I was sitting with a friend outside on the patio. And, um, all of a sudden while we're talking, the, uh, you ever heard of the cicadas? They start buzzing. Super loud, right? And so they start buzzing. So I asked him, I'm like, what is that buzzing? He's like, oh, it's the cicadas. and I felt like the Holy Spirit spoke to me in that moment that the cicadas created by God are doing what they're created to do they're operating how God is created to operate they're functioning in the way that God has created them to function they're not trying to make a different noise they're making the noise that their creator embedded into them I felt like the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, worship is using what God has given you for his glory. …
… It is in Jesus Christ's name we do pray. Amen. Our scripture today comes from the gospel according to John chapter 9 verse 25. Verse 25 will be our focus, but I'd like to read the first 24 verses as well to give you a little bit of context to this story. Now bear with me Alfred Street, I know that's a lot of text, but I'd ask you to read along with me. Turn to John chapter 9, and we're going to read verses 1 through 25. And I'm reading from the New King James Version. It reads like this. Now, as Jesus passed by, he saw a man who was blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. I must work the works of him who sent me while it is day. The night is coming when no one can work. …
… we know that this man is a sinner. And he answered and said, whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know. One thing I know, though I was blind, now I see. He who has ears to hear the word of God, let them hear it. You may be seated. our Father and our God give us eyes to see and ears to hear this manifestation of the person and work of your only begotten Son in whose name we pray Amen Last Sunday morning, we looked at the account of Jesus healing the man born blind and considered some of the important theological issues that related to it. This morning, we want to continue with this narrative to look at the responses of those who beheld what was going on. we see that there's a wide diversity of responses to this miracle that Christ performed. The first response that we encounter here is the response of the Pharisees as the man was once again brought into their presence, and we're told it was Sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes. …
